Hope I wasn't supposed to get to failure...

No, the first time I did STS, I was wiped out and had DOMS for days. I was also using much heavier weights than I was used to for Cathe's endurance workouts. So if I might normally reach for 5's and 8's for shoulders, and 10's for biceps, on STS disk 1, my card said to use 10's and 12's for...

OMG! Started STS over. Major DOMS.

I'm jealous! I just started my 2nd round of STS, doing the 6-month rotation (after completing the 3 month rotation in April). I took 1 month off of STS, doing cardio, circuits and some full body workouts, and am now in week 3 of the longer STS. So far, I definitely feel worked, but no DOMS...

Service idea for 9 year old girls ????

animal shelters Our local shelter relies on volunteer children (some as young as 7) to come in and play with the puppies and kittens, and give the older animals some love and attention. If your children love animals, you might look into that. Another option, if you are in a rural area, is the...

Substitute for plyo legs in June Rotation?

another option You might also consider using the leg circuits from either BM or BM2 -- if you repeated the circuit twice, that would be about 40 minutes, which is about as long as the Plyo leg workouts.

    Post your fitness tips here

If your weights are lighter than your purse, you are not getting a good workout. Break out the HEAVY weights! And you *can* make the time most days to exercise. My/your health and well-being are worth 30-60 minutes of your family finding something else to do. And by taking that time, we...

    Q for those without a barbell rack/bench

Definitely not heavier for me. I start with the BB cut in half, and adjust down as needed. I believe Cathe once said that we could go heavier with a BB because of the way the weight is distributed.

    repeating STS

That's my strategy. STS worked so well for me, but I want to make sure it keeps working. So after completing the 3-month STS, I am now in the last week of Cathe's Dec 08 rotation -- shorter workouts, circuits and total body weight work. For me, it's like a recovery month (although some of the...

    Q for those without a barbell rack/bench

DB's I used DB's instead of a BB. They work the muscles a bit differently, but since I was consistent throughout the program, I don't think I missed out on anything. And one of the background exercisers (Deazie?) always used DB's for chest & triceps too, so I think it's ok.

    STS MED Ball ABS

partner height? I haven't tried the partner section yet, but DH has asked me to put together an exercise rotation for him. So I was thinking of trying that out with him. For those of you who have done that section, will it work for us, given that DH is 6'3" and I am 5'?

What should I do? Vacation is interfering my STS workout.

Having done all the mesos in a 3-month rotation, I plan to do a 5-month rotation, where I'll repeat Meso 1 and 2, but not 3. I loved them all, but I honestly don't think I have the patience for a double dose of M3 (and I'm not sure about the benefits to strength either). So you might consider...

    Clean Eating -- Please clarify

cookbook I bought Tosca Reno's "Clean Eating Diet Cookbook", based on recommendations I read here. I have made maybe 10 dishes from it so far, and every one has been a huge hit. Good luck!

    Clean Eating -- Please clarify

That's exactly it. In some sense, a calorie is a calorie, no matter what. But when you eat clean, it takes fewer calories to make you feel full, and to stay full much longer, so overall, you will end up eating fewer calories, which is what results in weight loss. I just got a Clean Eating...

    In A Slump

I'm so sorry for your loss. Maybe you just need to let yourself off the hook, and take some time to just grieve. Your lack of energy may be some mild depression, which is totally normal while grieving. If you don't feel like working out, consider maybe taking a walk outside if the weather is...

    Confused about Tofu!

If you want to crumble it into your sauce, like a sub for ground meat, then you want firm tofu. You can either just crumble it right in, or freeze it first (already crumbled -- this helps it keep its shape better). The soft and silken are good as thickeners in soups and sauces -- you can put...

Why was my 1st post-STS UB workout so hard?

I did take my recovery week. Interesting thought about the cardio before weights. I have always done it that way, in part because that's how all of Cathe's videos do it, and also I thought keeping my heart rate up would give me a better WO overall. The rep speed is definitely faster than the...

Why was my 1st post-STS UB workout so hard?

I thought, having finished STS last week with huge strength gains, that going back to other UB workouts would be easy. Boy was I wrong! So today's rotation called for BM2 UB only (after a 20 minute HIIT run). I decided to do the double UB since I had time, and I hadn't done any other UB WO's...

    Edamame ) :

you did it right! That's exactly how they are eaten, Tami. In restaurants, they are steamed in the pods, sprinkled with salt, and then you suck out the beans (so that you get to lick up the salt) and discard the hairy pod. But you can also buy them frozen without the pod, steam them, and toss...

    STS stalling weight loss?

I have always read this too, but I can tell you that I just finished STS and dropped 3 sizes during the program. I also built muscle, but the fat loss was really big for me (and I didn't make any drastic changes to my diet). Physiologically, I understand why you shouldn't be able to do both...

Utter lunacy or insipired brilliance? It's so hard to be objective!

not crazy I did each mesocycle in more like 3.5 weeks, instead of 4. I did that by skipping 1 cardio WO per week, and smushing all the rest of the workouts together. So I would, for example, do STS on M, W, F, cardio T and H, Sat off, then on Sunday, I would do the next STS, cardio on Monday...

When did you start seeing results with STS?

You know, I felt exactly the same way. The weights in M1 were what I used to reach for for my heaviest weights. But not only was I able to keep up with the increases, by M3, I had to go heavier than the cards called for. So definitely, I was able to increase my weights dramatically. But not...
