Oh, since I brought up my Sunday long run...I have to tell you something else!!!! I have been doing as much **fasted cardio** as I can since my last marathon. I'm trying to train my body to use more fat for fuel and less glycogen. So Sunday was going to be my longest cardio session without...

The other perk is, you can keep your mileage up without worrying about an injury! Not saying it is impossible to get injured, but it definately strengthens other muscles, tendons and ligaments! My **painfully slow** long run on Sunday felt much easier this past weekend so everything is...

Do you stretch before you run?

I do some light stretches before a run....hamstrings, quads, calves....light! I do a more thorough stretch after my run. That is the best time to get a good stretch in...when the muscles are warm. As for food...play with it and see what works. Oatmeal is good, banana, toast with PB. I've...

    Running/Strength Training

Hi Marcia, I don't know where your 1/2 is (Virginia Beach RnR???) but they are usually earlier so that may help with the temperatures. Still, certain parts of the country can be extremely hot early in the a.m....especially in August. I would do some of your training while it is hot...

for fat loss which is better....BFL/P90X type vs ....

If I were you, I'd put the main focus on tightening up the diet since that accounts for 80% of it all. As for workouts, everyone is different! Most here seem to love the one part a day, I prefer the 2-3 total body strength or circuits a week for my very short limbs.

    Running/Strength Training

Marcia, I forgot to mention that when I do the Cathe circuit workouts, I skip the cardio segments. I usually drop and do ab work while the ladies do their plyo jacks since I do other cardio that day. Also, I'd leave the weights where they lay the week leading up to the race. In fact, if you...

    Running/Strength Training

I can tell you what has worked for me. My body responded really well to Cathe's total body endurance workouts and her circuit workouts 2-3 times per week. I'd do these workouts on non running days (aka elliptical days). If my Saturday long run was extra long then I skipped the weight work all...

    Yoga Videos

Bryan Kest has a Power Yoga dvd with 3 workouts on it...each 45-60 minutes long. He guides you through each to make it as "beginner" or "advanced" as you want. All 3 workouts are really fun! A lot of bang for your buck.

    time to see results

Sounds like you need to take a closer look at your diet. Journalize everything you eat for a while and see if you can pinpoint what needs to be changed up. We usually eat more than we think we eat until we look at it all on paper...you'd be amazed! Also, you may need cardio...are you doing...
