    Why DOES this happen?

My daughter will be 22 this week, and I lost all my weight about a month after her birth. Six pack, etc. But it's like the width of the frame of muscle is bigger. It isn't my hips. It's my waist. I have no paunch (I'm a pear), but the muscular "tube" between my ribs and hips is bigger. Maybe...

Anyone else concerned w/wacky winter weather?

I enjoy the 70 and 75 degree days in winter, lots of days around 60 too, but I truly believe the Blue Marble (Earth) is really going to change soon. Lots of environmental problems are already happening, and by the time more people believe it, there may not be time to have much effect. It may not...

    Do any of you....

I pretty much agree with Carolyn, so she's not the Lone Ranger anymore. :) I do some stretching after every workout, and sometimes I do 15-20 minutes more yoga-style stuff after a tough workout like Cathe's, that already included a brief stretch. If I'm taking a day off, I may do some...

    Those of us 40+...

I'll be 50 next summer. Have been working out since my early twenties, and I've never been overweight. One child. Some of my body parts have never looked better. Arms and abs. My legs carry some jigglies, always have no matter what, but the muscles are larger than ever. That's the good part...

Eat to Live for Health not Weight Loss?

I have a lot of respect for Brendan Brazier. I read the Organic Athlete website, and several Vegan athletic ones too. I eat mostly vegan. I really don't have any weight to lose. I could lose 5 cosmetic pounds, but mostly, I just want to stay healthy and prevent problems down the road, since I'll...

    What exercise makes you MAD?

I get mad at the new pushups on the ball. But now that I just set the ball against the sofa first, it's better.

What's your last workout of 2006?

I feel like a wimp compared to y'all, but I rode 45 hilly miles yesterday, so today I only did upper body. I did Gym Styles Chest, then Back, then Triceps. Tomorrow I'll run 5 miles and do Gym Style shoulders and biceps, plus a CoreMax workout.

Climbing Alpe d,Huez France with mtb

The best training for biking is biking. There isn't really a Cathe workout that has that sort of endurance for the quads and glutes, but I think Power Hour, LowMax and Leaner Legs will be helpful. Trail running on hills is helpful too. I ride about 100 miles a week on the road. Cathe helps keep...

    Peanut butter

I love Arrowhead Mills creamy. I've tried other kinds, and this is just the best. Maranatha is also a great brand. They're both organic, nothing but peanuts and salt. I like them better than the grind-your-own version. Liane

    A Moan about new DVDs

I am supposed to get mine today, so I'll be extra careful! I messed up my copy of Imax3 by using a knife which ripped off the plastic cover that's supposed to stay on the DVD product. Now it just has paper. Oh well. My fault. The workout is still good, but I learned to be patient with the...

Q about Raw Nuts & Seeds

I like dried cherries and snipped dry figs sometimes. Flaked coconut? Some flakes of natural cereal work too. I just keep the nuts in the freezer until I use them, then put them in a ziploc bag where they keep for a month or more. But I have eaten them by then.

    Mature women putting themselves down

I heard a report on NPR yesterday, on my way home from riding 40 miles in the lovely leaf color/blue sky countryside, about a 76 year old woman who was running in the Hawaii Ironman for the 21st time!!! It said you could follow any athlete's progress on the Ironman website, so I did. At that...

So, now that I'm exercising more...

Another idea is to mix up various versions of nut mix/trail mix. I use almonds, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, walnuts, peanuts, not all at once, just different things. Then I throw in some raisins or dried cherries, apricots, figs, dates, something to give you little instant sugar. I keep...

    No running

I run very occasionally, and ONLY in the winter, but I live in NC. Mostly I do Cathe, walk a lot, bike twice a week. So about half my cardio is biking, half Cathe. I also occasionally swim a mile or go to a class at a gym. I do fine without running. Even when I didn't bike a lot. I just did more...
