    Question for Sheila--Latent Labor

I am 37 weeks pregnant and have been having latent labor for around four days. The contractions are extremely strong (similar to what I remember feeling when on Pitocin with my daughter) but also very irregular--some are only a minute or two apart, some are ten or fifteen minutes apart. The...

    HR and ACOG

New ACOG recommendations My understanding is that ACOG came out with new recommendations a couple of years ago. They no longer set 140 as a maximum heart rate. Instead, they recommend the "talk test"--pregnant women should work out at a low enough intensity that they can still talk during the...

    How do I stay motivated?

Thanks, Daphne You're absolutely right that even walking is an aerobic workout these days--I am horrified by how winded I am just walking up two flights of stairs to my office. I think that the main thing I need to do in terms of increasing my energy is get more sleep--I have only been getting...

    How do I stay motivated?

Thank you, BLinda! I think you're right about your body being less "honest" during pregnancy. It is, in my experience, much easier to say, "I don't feel like working out today" when you're pregnant. I haven't been pushing myself in terms of exertion ("Dance Step" is not exactly interval...

    How do I stay motivated?

Thank you Thanks, Lisa. I slowed down quite a bit this week--I pretty much had to, since I had a bad cold and spent part of the weekend in bed--and I feel much better now. So I think I am going to stop pushing myself so hard for the rest of the pregnancy. It's just six weeks or so, right? Gayla

    How do I stay motivated?

I am 33 weeks pregnant and am on the brink of a major exercise slump. I am still working out about five hours a week (down from 6 1/2 to 7 hours in the second trimester), but it is becoming more and more of a struggle. No matter what I do, my stomach is in the way, and I am so tired at the end...

    8 days a week?

breastfeeding I didn't start to lose the last fifteen(!) pounds until I quit. And I never finished losing them because I got pregnant again two weeks later. BUT--in those two weeks I'd lost five pounds, so I think that they would have come off really quickly.

    Breastfeeding

If you're only two months postpartum and you've already lost all but five pounds of the weight you are doing really well. My body hung on to about fifteen pounds the entire time I was breastfeeding (five months postpartum). I got pregnant about two weeks after I stopped nursing, so I can't say...

    Recovering from episiotomy

I didn't have an episiotomy when my daughter was born, but I had a third-degree tear that was very hard to repair. I was very stretched out at first. But Kegels helped a lot. By the time I went for my six-week checkup, I was almost completely back to normal. I know it seems hard to believe at...

    Give me your stories!

First Trimester There is a light at the end of the tunnel. I was so sick during my first trimester I only worked out once a week (strength training--cardio made me even sicker). But at about thirteen or fourteen weeks, I suddenly felt like working out again. I am 25 weeks now and working out...

    Exercise Videos

Thanks, Hazel I think I'm going to try the Gay Gasper video and Hi-Lo Heaven. Learning some new choreography sounds like fun, and I think I read that the Gay Gasper video has a six-mos. pregnant woman doing modifications.

    Exercise Videos

I am looking for a good floor aerobics video that I can do while pregnant. I am five months pregnant and am finding the ones designed especially for pregnancy way too easy. I have a couple of step videos that I like, but I can't really find any good floor tapes--everything seems to be either...
