High Reps

Cathlete
I’m going to be trying this workout for the first time this week and am going to preview it tomorrow but for anyone who’s done it, is it high reps where fairly light weight is necessary? I used to do Jari Love workouts and her idea of high reps was literally 100 bicep curls with 5 pound weights. From the little clip I’ve watched on Cathe’s site it doesn’t look like that type of high reps but it also appears that Cathe doesn’t say what weight she’s using. It’s so helpful when she does because if she uses 3’s or 5’s on a particular exercise, I instantly know to start at a lower weight too. Any feedback Is appreciated!

The "compendium" is very helpful in finding what to expect:

Whoops ... sorry ... I think it was "Anna's Compendium " that had all the worksheets that listed the exercise & weights Cathe uses but the link appears to not have it any longer ....

I've done the High Reps workout enough to know you definitely want go light. I believe she mentions what she is using. I have my weights written down and recall anytime I think the weight is too light, it isn't!

Cathe uses 5, 8, 10, 12 & 20# Dumbbells and 15-30-45# on the Barbell (but I never go that heavy for the shoulder exercises, only for the back exercises). You'll also need a sliding device and a medium tension band.

I quoted the compendium above and it's a WONDERFUL starting point but it really doesn't mention the level of detail that Debinmi provided. Way to go Debinmi!
Cathletes are AWESOME!!

I found a exercise breakdown online and previewed the whole workout and made notes of weights used so I’m set for tomorrow morning. And I think I can even do Intensity using just the step platform with no risers. Thank you everyone for being so helpful!!!

I did High Reps this morning and I enjoyed it. It was tough, even with lighter weights. Note to self, 3's might be better for some of that shoulder work and I think 8's would be better for the chest flys. I'm glad I previewed the workout yesterday so I knew what to expect as well as had my little cheat sheet, which I had trouble seeing because the print was so darn small, so I don't think it really helped, except I made notes of what weight I planned to use, but I still had to pause the DVD because I wasn't able to change the weights as quickly as Cathe and the crew. One thing I plan to modify next time was the weight work that combined the long band. I had trouble getting my band and weights positioned and felt like the band was pinching my fingers. I will probably end up using my tubing with handles next time so I feel like I can get a better grip on the weights. But all in all I liked it, doing a workout for the first time can seem awkward and sometimes I feel like I don't get a good workout for that day, but I was sweaty and burning at the end. That ab work is killer. I had to rest during the ab segment because my abs were on fire! I've been on eBay hunting for the Danskin women's barbell. I had one a long time ago and somehow it disappeared after I moved. I still have 30 pounds worth of the 5 pound weight plates and found one on eBay with the bar and 24 pounds of weight plates. While you can't go super heavy with this barbell, it was all the weight I needed, the plates are small, rubber coated and easy to handle and change between exercises. Plus, it stores easier in my already very crowded workout area!

I have my Danskin barbell and dumbbell bars that I love and use. The only thing wrong were the clamps were no longer gripping but Cathe's clips work perfectly with them!

Good to know because the one I had previously had holes on the part of the bar where the weights went. The clips stuck in the hole and stayed in place during a workout. I have squeeze type clips for a standard barbell but they’re almost too small for the Danskin bar. I might end up getting Cathe’s clips if the plates fall off mid workout. I wish Danskin still made the barbell. It was a great idea and excellent product.

Omgosh!!!! I also have the Danskin Barbell . It’s such a great barbell I have the 2lb & 4lb plates. I still use it when I need 2 barbells

Cathe’s clips worked great with the danskin barbell

I wish Danskin still made the barbell. It was a great idea and so easy to handle. I’m glad I still have my 6 five pound plates. There are plates for sale on eBay but no five pounders.
