I like BG but its not really a cardio workout. The others are excellent choices. Do you like step? How about Body Max 2?

Lulu:

do you like Cathe's step workouts? If you do, don't get 4 day split for the cardio. I loathe the step workouts on this disc: the intense one isn't up to much and the low intensity one just pisses me off with unnecessarily complicated footwork. In fact, if I were to do it again, I wouldn't buy the 4 DS at all.

But! Cathe has some step workouts of pure brilliance and nearly everyone agrees on this: go to Step Blast from whatever series it is in and go to Rhythmic Step and go to Imax 2 and Powermax. These are her absolute best step workouts of all time, plus LoMax. If I had to do the desert island thing, I'm keeping these cardio workouts and getting rid of all the others.

You could also consider the CTX series because the cardios on there are also some of her best, along with Circuit Max. That series offers you 5 cardio portions that you can link together and sweat yourself to happiness with. The music rocks, it's all athletic, no danciness anywhere in sight. I think Cathe has already done her best cardio work and it was then, not now.

The cardios you are looking at in your list are all of the bust-a-gut type with dread factor attached: think about whether you ever have days when you can't muster up the desire/energy/courage to do one of those, might you like to have a far-more-fun alternative?

OK, well that's my opinion. Hope it helps!

Hi Lulu,

If you like high intensity cardio piking your heart rate up to more than 70% max go for To the max and cross fire. If you want moderate intensity short step with intricate choreography and excellent selection of music go for 4DS...You get more than cardio from this program. Now if you want circuit, with premix option go for Body Max2.

Hope this help and all the best,

Nathalie

Body max 2 is so much fun and has excellent premixes. I easily modify it to lower impact bu just lowering my step height. Plus it has great music.

I would skip 4ds, I agree with the previous poster- the step work is very hard to keep up with.

Have you tried Intensity? That one is all cardio pretty much but it has a lot of options including a step segment, bootcamp and both Hi and Lo Hiit. It's definitely tough and you can use it in a lot of different ways.

I love all of them but I think 4DS, BM2, TTM and CF are the most useful and versatile (awesome premixes). I want to add that I'm not crazy about the step work in 4DS either but that doesn't decrease the value of that workout. The Bootcamp and Kickbox cardio sections more than make up for it. The many premixes that use these two are awesome. And of course there are premixes in which you can do the all strength work without the cardios, so you can easily avoid the step cardios.

Hi Clare,
thank you for you for your input! Now, what does CTX stand for? Thanks!

What about Xtrain? I was reading the discription on Xtrain and I think I might like this one. I find that I really enjoy doing workout programs that are 30-90 days. Knowing that someone has already decided what workout I'm going to do for that day really makes it easier and more enjoyable. I think thats the reason I keep going back to insanity because I'm able to follow the calendar. I thought I would love Turbo Fire because it had the same workout calendar, but unfortunately I didn't enjoy the choreography on this program. Althoug I think I might hold off on XTrain and put it on my Birthday/Mothers DAy wish list!:)
Oh my goodness! Cathe has so many DVD's that look like so much fun, but there are so many of them that it's almost overwhelming! Ok so I also see the Imax-2 and the Body max 2, wish one is better? Thanks for your patience...I appreciate all your help!

IMAX

Imax2 dvd

This dvd contain a circuit called cardio (consisting of step aerobics moderate intensity and short blast high intensity) and weight...It is great. There is a lot of sweat going on this plus you get to work your strength really hard. You can go heavy if you wish on this.

Imax2 is pure cardio step consisting of a moderate intensity plus high intensity blast. The choreography is complex. It requires viewing before starting the program. It is worth investing the time cause once you have mastered it, you will be pushing your ability and you will be burning more calories. This does whip and trim legs :):):). It is a metabolic workout.... I love all cathe's IMAXES:D:D:D, Love it to bit
It is fun fun fun and who know you may get hooked and eventually add imax3:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

Lulu if you want challenging cardio, add this one....To the max and cross fire. They elevate your heart rate to 70% max or more.

Body Max2, just the original body max consist of the following format:

Step, power circuit and an upper body strength weight training. You will need a stability ball to do the upper weight training. I personnally, like most of cathlete, have not done the 97 minutes full program. The only day i could possibly do the full workout is week end.

All the best lulu,

I think I will be adding Imax2 to my list...Thanks Nathalie!!!

You are welcome Lulu.
Please keep us informed how you are getting on with your "additions" :).
Enjoy imax plyo ;)

Lulu:

CTX = Cross Train Express.

If you buy Imax 2 (totally worth it), Crossfire and TTM, you're buying very similar workouts three times over. There's not much variety here, it's all balls-to-the-wall cardio. Not a lot of variety in intensity or cardio type.

Thanks for clarifying that Clare! I will definately put Cross Train Express on my list!

What about the equipment for Crossfire and To The Max, are the disc and firewalder bands an absolute requirement? Thanks!

Lulu

I know this is an older thread: but, the only thing with CTX is that unless you have a fancy DVD player with two drives and its programmable, its a little annoying to set up your own premixes. It doesn't come with its own premixes. That said, its a lot of fun.

I completely disagree with the others: I love the choreo on 4DS step. I think its fresh and a hoot. But, like with all things: it just depends on your personal taste. I also highly recommend Imax 2 for CW (aka cardio and weights). I think CW is possibly my favorite of all time followed by BM2.

I'm just jumping in here 'cuz I'm short on time but

Lower Body Blast is a decent cardio workout with awesome buns-burning work! B&G is good but it's not cardio.

MMA Boxing - it's a great cardio workout and using the weighted gloves really works the upper body (not to mention core!).
