Ideas on what to eat between meals

I wake up @ 2am and have one piece of the 100% whole wheat EarthGrain bread with very thin layer of peanut butter and jelly and 1/2 cup of coffee. After my workouts and have breakfast wish will be between 4:30 and 4:45am I have 2 egg whites and one whole egg omelet with spinash and a little cheese on top. After that I won't eat again until lunch time wish is between 11am and 12pm. I know I should eat something in between before lunch but I don't know what? After lunch it's pretty much the same I don't eat again until dinner time wish for me is between 3:30-4:30pm. What can I eat between meals that won't put the pounds on me and how much of it? Right now I'm doing the Ansanity rotation with 3 days of lower and upper body weight training incorporated into my insanity workouts. Thanks!

My personal go-to snack when I want something light is fruit...bananas, apples, grapes, clementines, berries-you name-I've eaten it and I love it!:)

I like a glass of skim milk with Ovaltine as a snack when I get home from work; maybe you could pack a to-go canister so you'd have it for work.

During the day I like a Kashi Chewy Trail Mix bar, or an apple or watermelon.

I hear the string cheese is a popular snack item, or yogurt.

Congrats on your program; sounds like you are working hard to reach your goals:)

I have cut up veggies usually yellow, green or red peppers, carrots or sugar snap peas, apples, greek yogurt or string cheese.

In addition to fruit which I posted about above, I will also do low fat string cheese, a low fat single serving bag of pop corn or a couple ounces of low salt turkey breast deli slices by themselves or even better- wrapped around a piece of string cheese-yum! Laziness has prevented me from doing this next one lately but I also used to eat salads as a snack when I had the motivation to make them...

I do the exact same thing. It's my "sandwich without the bread" snack!

In addition to all the fruits already mentioned, I also like to snack on pickles. I LOVE pickles... all kinds, but my favorites are dill spears, baby gherkins and pickled okra.

Low fat string cheese, Greek yogurt, handful of nuts ( almonds, pistachios, pecans), cottage cheese with fruit or veggies, edamame....

I'll have to try the microwaved sweet potato!! :)

Wow! You get up before I've even gone to bed.....

Well, things I eat for snacks are: hard boiled eggs, a couple ounces of cheese (redeemed for athletes in this month's Men's Health mag), a handful of salted almonds, a banana, bunh of grapes, couple spoons of peanut butter, etc.

I think you're waiting too long between breakfast and lunch also. Why not add some carbs into the mix for sustained energy? Are you afraid of carbs? Toast and peanut butter, some crackers and cheese, a burrito? Some pasta salad made ahead of time? Loads of options here.

I think you're under-eating, not eating too much at all.

@grateful dog....what do u scrub ur sweet potato with?

these sound awesome....a lot of these are what i snack on and some of the others i will give a try also....especially the deli meat around the cheese one....sounds yum:)

I usually have an apple with Natural Peanut Butter or an apple with string cheese. Wendy, I never thought about using the turkey with the string cheese! That sounds good! I also keep hard-boiled eggs in the frig for a quick snack.

I have greek yogurt with protein powder as my preworkout snack. Soy nuts are between breakfast & lunch, almonds between lunch & dinner.

Question lulu: What time do you go to bed?

Apples with natural peanut butter, strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, nuts, popcorn, sometimes I will eat cheese its snack mix, low fat yogurt, low fat cottage cheese with pineapple. Just some ideas. I always eat a snack between breakfast and lunch and lunch and dinner. Hope this helps!!! :D

Roasted vegetables (pre-make them in bulk on the weekend and store in your fridge) I like to dip them in hummus, ketchup/mustard, or greek yogurt. The veggies that I like the best for roasting are sweet potatoes, carrots, parsnips, cauliflower, broccoli, brussels sprouts, butternut squash, asparagus.

Another winner for me: homemade kale chips!

I "liked" everyone's suggestion cuz' those are my snacks too! Variety is a wonderful thing :)

*baked sweet potato in the micro and kale chips are SO yummy! I do this too*

Oh yeah... I'm definitely a snacker. I eat most of the same things mentioned. I have yet to make my own kale chips, but I do plan to give that a try soon. I LOVE raw kale :)

Some of my faves are tbspn of PB on a rice cake or celery with PB with a few dried cranberries half of a WW wrap with PB and half of a banana I love PB!!!!!

Yes you are correct I'm totally afraid of carbs! Even when I do have carbs I trim everything. If I'm having a wheat tortilla I will trim it to make it smaller, don't get me wrong I still eat carbs I just don't like over doing it. I had a feeling I wasn't eating enough, but always afraid that I will be adding way to many calories if I start snacking in between meals.

Thanks everyone great ideas. I went shopping yesterday and bought fruits, yogurts, string, cheese, cottage cheese etc...When I woke up this morning everything I had purchase was almost all gone!!! My kids are in spring break and staying up late and decided that they would eat all my food!!! :)

Here's another one for ya that I happen to love and just had some as a snack a few minutes ago-:)

A can of beans (I use cannellini or chic peas) mixed up with a can of diced tomatoes in whatever flavor you like. I usually eat a one cup serving. YUM!
