50 and over week of January 17 check in

Happy Sunday, Y'All.

Well, I haven't worked out since I "pooped out" on Friday afternoon. I was still tired yesterday. I hope I am not coming down with something, but I think maybe I am just pushing myself a little harder than I need to at the moment. Maybe it would be better to "drop back 10 and punt" (good expression, considering the playoffs are going on), maybe just do shorter workouts. There's a lot more than the usual stress sucking away my energy, so I think it might be better if I tried some of Tracie's new workouts and did some old favorites. Want to try Travel Fit, as well.

Weather is yucky here today. Yesterday, at least we had sunshine and it wasn't as cold. Today, it's rainy with that "to the bone" chill in the air.

Have a great Sunday, Y'All.

Hello!!

Well, I had just enough time to read everyone's posts last week, but everytime I started to write I got interrupted! I can't remember now what I was going to say-

Magnolia, I like the "drop back and punt" idea- Maybe thats what your body needs right now.

Joan, I do not know how you work and keep up with these workouts- I have been working just from 12 to 5 and I am exhausted!! I took a great walk outside today- it warmed up to the 60's and the sun came out! Couldnt resist!

I am ready to hit the weights again tomorrow! Boy I need to drop these holiday pounds:confused:

Good morning Magnolia and Beth and those that follow,

Elliot came at noon for her sleepover. She immediately dumped her bag out and got into her pj's. She wanted to get the sleepover started. I knew she wouldn't take a nap right away because she would want to visit but thought she would later. We went nonstop until 9pm, 2 hours past her bedtime. She didn't want to sleep in her bed so dh is on couch and we both fell asleep in my bed. I just woke up.

Magnolia You should listen to your body. I plan to go to shorter wo in Feb if not sooner. Whatever I have time for because last year I caused more stress for myself worrying about getting exercise in when I didn't have time for it.

Beth Unfortunately I can't alway keep up with wo but I do feel better when I can. I was just thinking that I need to get out in the sun to walk even if it is cold here. My vit D is low.

I don't want to get too far behind so I will do a leg wo plus disc 7 tomorrow if I'm lucky. Elliot leaves about noon.

Good morning.
I too have decided I need to cut back on weights while trying to do so much cardio. My energy dropped on Friday to the point I had to take a nap midday - I did disc 6 on Saturday and felt tired the rest of the day.
Yesterday I went back to last year when I did STS 1-3. I read my notes and saw I did not do anything some weeks but the 3 weight workouts. I saw that I had gained weight during those months so I went to my diet notes. I was eating more than I should. For the last two weeks I have been really trying to stay with in my calories and I am finding I am hungry most of the time. When I weighed in this morning I gained yet another 1.5 pounds!
Yesterday I decided I have to go back to weights 2 days a week and I need to do cardio to help with calorie burn. I have not figured out how I am going to get the 3 disc's in 2 days yet. I am still planning on doing STS at least a watered down version. I also know I am going to pick cardio that I can do and feel good doing it.
My diet is getting better and now that DH has joined me it is getting easier to cook healthier foods and cut back on snacks. I am so stressed seeing the scale go up!!!!:mad:
I have to find a plan that works for me. Also I know menopause is playing havoc with my body. I don't have night sweats or hot flashes. I do feel every ounce of stress and I know it's contributing to my weight gain. So I am looking for something to help calm me down...
All right enough talk -- I need to put together my plan! :)

Good morning, Y'All.

Jann, when I started STS in the fall, I also found that I was only doing the 3 weight workouts each week, even though I was trying to fit in some kind of cardio.

When I lost about 20 lbs. only a few years ago, I was doing simpler cardio about 3 days a week (usually Basic Step or something like it) and moderate weight workouts 2 or 3 days. My diet was a nice balance between protein, carbs & the right kinds of fats. That's where I'm starting from now. I'm setting long-term goals this time, too. One of them is to do the STS/Shock Cardio rotation eventually, without spending two days exhausted in between.

Today the sun has already been peeking out, and if the weather forecast holds true, I'll be taking a nice walk in the sun. If not, I'm going to give "Step Forward" a try. I'm planning to work in some of Cathe's premixes this week, but not going to push myself until I know I'm ready.

Anyway, BBL with whatever I end up doing in between errands and cleaning.

Hi Everyone!

It is comforting to know I am not alone, (although I am not happy that you all are having the same problems)

Last night, I had a terrible sleep because my muscles ached too much. Usually I embrace that feeling, but it was literally messing with my sleep. I am going to take tylonal pm tonight.

Luckily, DH, discovered that he too had gained weight over the holidays, so he is game for getting the food out of the house and the salad dinners I am planning for this week.

Here are some thoughts:
:rolleyes:I read on a px90 board that it is not uncommon to feel extrememly tired after doing that hard of a workout and that it does get better.
:rolleyes:My best results included more pilates- so I am going back to my mat workout everyday
:rolleyes:I think the weight gain is like a slow motion train wreck. Why do yu gain weight after you start getting serious? Maybe it is because 3 weeks earlier when we were eating too much, it is just now starting to show up, and on the same note, this hard work will show in about 3 weeks.

As far as the food goes, I am going to stay with my plan but eat mini portions and try to get up from the table feeling a little hungry. BBL after I do disc 7

Right, because I really didn't gain as much as I thought I should have eating like I was 3 weeks ago.

Because I could not come up with a plan yet.. I did disc 7 :) Push ups AGAIN!
I am however going to figure something out because I really don't like feeling I have hit a wall by Fridays. :)

Hi, Y'All.

So the weather forecast proved to be correct for this afternoon, and I had the lovely walk I needed. I'm tired now, but not whipped. Just having a short rest before finishing up today's housework.

Hope each of you has a pleasant evening.

Yesterday I decided I have to go back to weights 2 days a week and I need to do cardio to help with calorie burn. I have not figured out how I am going to get the 3 disc's in 2 days yet.

I think I figured it out. I am going to do the first upper body on YTues and I am going to do about half of the leg workout with it- skipping the warmup. Then, on Friday or maybe Saturday, I am going to do the other upper body and sencond half of legs. The other days I will do the cardio, yoga and pilates when I am too sore for the cardio. The way I figure it, most of the cardio includes legs, and my legs need to stretch more!!

I did pilates, hot yoga and water running today. I needed the stretch really really bad! I feel my muscles were too bulky and tight-- I am starting my plan tomorrow!

Glad you got out, Magnolia! We do not usually have extended periods of cold and grey, but after just a few days, I crave the sunshine!!!

Good night all!

Hi Beth, Jann, Magnolia and all that follow,

I have almost the same problem as everyone else. I don't get tired from wo but STS weights don't help me lose weight. I really need 6-7 days of cardio. Since I can't do high impact I usually need to do a couple hours on treadmill. Today I was so hungry and couldn't stop eating. I need to keep calories between 1200-1500 to lose. It's much more difficult to keep calories low when lifting weights.

If you read a lot of diet books like I do, it seems like the authors who have lost a lot of weight have done it an unhealthy way quickly and then started to do everything right with diet and exercise.

After Elliot left today I had 6 loads of wash and I'm still not done. I did print out 4 clients w-2's. Unfortunately they were the clients with only 1-4 employees.

Heading to bed so no wo today either.

Beth, you are putting together all of Shoulders, Biceps, and Chest with 1/2 of the legs on Tuesday. Then Triceps and Back with the last 1/2 of legs on Friday or Saturday. OK -- I get it.

I am going to give this a try. I will try for Monday and Thursday as my STS weight days. Tuesday will be Cardio, Wednesday rest or Stretching/yoga/pilates. Friday Cardio. Saturday Cardio. Sunday rest. By adding legs on with the upper body will help with calorie burn because I always burn a lot of calories while doing legs. :)

This week is:
Monday – Disc 7/9
Tuesday - Hiit Pyramid
Wednesday – Yoga
Thursday - Disc 8/9
Friday - MMA Boxing
Saturday - MMA Fusion

Since I missed 1/2 Disc 9 yesterday I will add it today. :)

Thanks for helping me with a plan. :D

Good morning,

I got back from my trip yesterday evening. I went snow shoeing with my youngest sister on Saturday and had a great time. It rained on Sunday so we went shopping instead so did a little walking.

I did Disc 7 and had a great workout. The weights were just right.

I remember when I did STS last year I felt really fatigued and only made it through half to Mesocycle 2. So far I am not experiencing the fatigue and I hope it stays that way. I will still try and keep to the rotation, although this week will vary a little bit because of my trip.

Hope you all have a great day.

All righty ladies... Not having done HiiT Pyramid before I was WAY to ambitious thinking I was going to do any Extra Leg workout today -:eek: Treadmill -- Treadmill is what I'll be doing now..... I did burn 165 calories though in what 25 minutes -- that's good w/modifying those jumps turns half way through both segments to skip turns and I always do mountain climbers from on my high step. :D
bbl grabbing my treadmill shoes...

Good Morning, Y'All.

There is definitely something wrong with me today. I am so tired. I just tried to do FitPrime Lean, and I used to think that was an easy workout. I still think so, but it nearly killed me today. Unbelievable! I was working harder last week, and not this dead after. Maybe I am coming down with something.

Well, off to do errands, then I may try for a nap! Getting old really stinks, but I guess it beats the alternative.

Have a great day.

Magnolia

good evening!

Welcome back Linda!! Snowshoeing sounds like a lot of fun!

Magnolia, just go with the flow until you get your energy back! You are probably coming down with something!

Jann, my plan work great this morning, but I left out the last round of pushups- I burn 676 cal in about 90 min. I turned off the tape and watched (listened) to cnn while doing the legs. I am going to walk on the treadmill now- I have GOT to drop this weight.:( Last weekend, I had lunch with some friends and someone took pictures and.....well......there's nothing like a picture..

Foodwise, I am cutting way back. I made some vegetable soup last weekend and I am using that instead of lunch and dinner with just a little protein (some sirloin steak that I grilled and sliced to have ready)

Magnolia sending healing vibes out to you. Sometimes we just have to give in to what our bodies need.

Linda Snow shoeing sounds like a lot of fun. Did you have to come up north to find snow? We still have a piles even after all the rain.

Beth yay! :D I was thinking the same thing about all those pushups. STS 2 thankfully does not have them! I am such a nerd  I am reprinting all my sheets putting the exercises together.
I hear ya about pictures! After looking through some of our holiday pictures :(

I jumped on the treadmill for a total of 300 calories. Then went shopping with DS this afternoon so I walked and walked.... Today has been good.

Hi ladies,

I did weigh in on Monday and I lost 1lb. The week before I lost 5lbs but since those were the pounds I gained over Christmas and New Years, they probably shouldn't count. You notice I did put them on the signature line. Why is it always easier to lose new weight gain? I have been eating between 1100-1200 calories except this weekend when there were 3 1700-1800 calorie days.

I got a Wii from my dil and ds for Christmas. I think they just wanted something to play. I really didn't think I would like those games but the kids did. The balance board was on sale at Target and included Jillian's game in addition to Wii fitness. So that was dh's birthday present to me. He just doesn't know it yet. Of course I needed to see that it worked so I tried it out today. I actually spent an hour and a half trying it out. That will be my workout. Calories used for the day were more than Step moves day or Athletic step day. I can count it as leg and cardio day but I still need to get upper body in this week. The Wii board can weigh you. When you log in it makes your character look like you. I don't need a picture to know I need to diet just from seeing the short chubby character.

Magnolia Hope you are just tired and not coming down with anything.

Another question to ponder-why do we always look bigger in a picture than in a mirror?

Dil thought she had contractions Sunday night but her doctor just had her drink water. I had never heard you could get false contractions if you were dehydrated.

Joan

Joan I'll be interested in hearing about the Wii fitness games. I think Cathy mentioned she got one too for Christmas.

I've asked that question over and over. I check myself out in a full length mirror and think I look all right. Then I see a picture and can't believe that's how I look. :( I would love an answer!

I know dehydration can play tricks on your body. If my DH gets dehydrated he gets PVC's.
