another protein powder question

i'm wondering why people use the powder--- is it for ease (instead of eating say, a piece of chicken), variety, or that it is absorbed faster?

has anyone seen physical changes with using the powder, other than whole food?

i'm wanting to try the sun warrior powder-- has anyone tried...little concerned with stevia--heard some new controversy around it.

I use Sun Warrior (the plain isn't very good, but the chocolate and vanilla are).

IMO, stevia is safe.

Personally, I use powders for the following reasons:
1) I'm lazy! I'm also cooking for just one person. I will use a protein powder smoothie as a quick breakfast when I'm in a hurry or just don't feel like cooking.

2) easy-to-digest boost of protein (Sun Warrior in particular is easy to digest, and has a protein assimilation close to that of mother's milk, which makes it a good after-workout feeding when working hard and heavy).

3) I sometimes have no imagination: it's an easy fix when I just don't have it in me to figure out what's for lunch or a snack.

I do agree that eating real food is preferable to downing meal replacements and protein drinks.

that's how i feel too, quick and easy.

i've been using pea protein (hypo allergenic) and find the taste "lacking".

i use a lot of fruit to flavor.

i've read where body builders rely on protein powders and feel that due to its quick assimilation, muscle recover so much more quickly and is better for you.

i'm not sold on that idea.

i might try your chocolate sun warrior...seems pretty expensive, but if it taste good--- may be worth the price.

i don't like artificial sweeteners and have tried the herb stevia....by far, the best of the lot.

What's a good protein powder to put in oatmeal? Something that has a yummy taste and will improve the flavor of oatmeal, as I find it to be pretty boring!

This morning I had Steel Cut Oats, BSN Cinnamon Roll protien powder and 1/2 C milk. Tastes great!

I've never put protein powder in oatmeal - I usually put in frozen raspberries & cinnamon. Very yummy.

I use protein powder usually when I first get up before my wo so I have something in my belly. I don't use it as a meal replacement.

I don't buy it, either. I think it's more they've bought into the advertising (and articles promoting the products, that are in magazines sponsored by the advertisers).

I've never used protein powder in oatmeal: I'd think it would give an unpleasant texture.

I mix chopped walnuts, dates or dried blueberries, agave nectar and chia seeds or ground flax and a bit of rice or almond milk in my oatmeal.

My oatmeal is never boring!

Convenience! Nutition!

I have to agree with Kathryn... I use protein powders primarily for convenience. I don't often have time to cook myself an actual meal, so having a protein powder shake provides me with a quick, nutritious option

I'm sure it would be better to cook myself something, but I wouldn't. Instead, I'd grab whatever I could (probably something carb-heavy and not nutrient-dense) to fill up my stomach. (Then my blood sugar would spike and plunge, and I'd feel horrible!)

The shake is a much better option, and especially at 5:30 a.m., before I work out. I can't face food that early in the morning anyway.

And for the record: I actually do cook nutritious dinner, but that's because the whole family is here and, darn it, they expect a real meal at dinner time!
