How will you use STS?

I feel this will be like getting my first digital camera...it will sit in the box because it wil be intimidating at first. I don't plan to use it till about Feb. and then again in the fall. After spending so much for it, I want to be able to use it more than once. Then repeat next year. Does this make sense, or should I be planning something different?????? Thanks for advice in avance. Kay

Kay,

I am not getting STS (yet), but if I did, I can think of so many ways to use it.

If I dont feel fit enough to do it through, I'd first build up using STS for about a month. I would do the first disc of each Meso for a week and do as many sets / reps as I could manage. That would also serve as a preview to tell me what to expect when I do the "Real STS". That would take 3 weeks. In the 4th week I wouldnt train with weights at all, but use yoga and cardio.

I'd do STS first as planned with the heavy legs option in Meso 3.

I'd then give STS a rest and do an undulating periodization after a few months. Week 1 Meso 1, Week 2 Meso 2, Week 3 Meso 3 and then cycle through again with disc 2, disc3.....

I may then take a break and come back to do only Meso 3 with Plyo legs

After that even if I never did STS as planned, I'd pull out workouts from it at random. I may even use it to work a single body part each day to try a rotation where I do lifting followed by cardio 6 days a week.

If I get STS, I would think there would be enough there to fulfill all my needs for split workouts for the next 3 years.

I, for one, will rip the packaging right off of it, preview as much as I humanly can that very night, and start the very next morning! LOL As produced, as-is.

That's my plan too! I am not going to worry about being in-shape enough for it. I'm just going to give it my best effort the first time around and do what I can do without killing myself. :)

Liann, Gayle,

After seeing the pushups in the Meso 1 clip, I feel worried. Push ups are my nemesis. My legs can take intensity. The rest of the upper body seems manageable for me from the clips so far. But the push ups scare me!

I don't think there is a certain fitness level too this since you are suppose to do what you can handle. I am off starting the 22cnd through the end of the year, so I hope it comes by then. If not, I will start working on the 1rm so that when I get it I will be ready. I am going to use it as is the first time, as it is set up, and see what happens.

Since my fitness/weight is not where it should be I'm going to take STS and repeat each week until I can do the full workout. Then I will move on to the next week. Hopefully by the time I finish the full 3 cycles I can take a break and then start over and do it the way it is supposed to be completed.

Push-ups are something that if I don't keep doing them, I lose the ability to do them at all. For a while there, I had myself up to being able to do about 6 sets of 15 on my toes. Last night (after a LONG break from push-ups), I could only do 15 on my toes PERIOD and then did another 20 on my knees. If I keep doing that every few days (upping the number on my toes), l'll be able to do my 90 again by mid-December though. Have you ever tried that push-up challenge that several people here are doing? I've never done that, but when I first started, I would do like 2 sets of 15 on my knees, then the next time, I would still do 2 sets, but try 5 on my toes. I kept upping the number on my toes until I was finally doing 2 sets of 15 on my toes. Then my next step was to try and eek out another set of 15. I couldn't do ANY on my toes when I first started. ;)

I haven't decided for sure yet, but I'm leaning toward doing Meso 1 legs w/ Meso 3 UB first. I know it's sacriligious! However, like Vee, those 156+ push ups in Meso 1 scare me! I know Cathe said to just do what I can, even if it's only one push up per set, but I can get competitive :D and worry that I'll injure myself trying to eke out one more rep.

I'm thinking that I need to build up my UB strength more gradually and Meso 3 is all chest presses (no push ups). After month 1, I'd do Meso 2 legs and Meso 1 UB and for month 3, I do Meso 3 legs and Meso 2 UB. Again, this is all theoretical. Any thoughts?

BTW, I have no intention of doing 1 rep max testing for anything. Not gonna happen. It's all I can do to get a workout in! I know I won't be able to psych myself into doing "pre-workout workouts" to make sure the actual workouts are more effective. It may not get to 100% STS effectiveness, but I figure it'll get me USING STS which is more important.

I'm not using it! I canceled my pre-order. I have discovered I am a fan of going to the gym with its variety of equipment, lifting heavy, and getting the job done. So, while I am sad to say I cannot feel the excitement and am keeping my fingers crossed that STS will be in your little hands soon :D

So true! I was ONCE in good enough shape I agreed to do a 200 Sun Saluations marathon with my friend and yoga teacher. I got past the 50 mark before dropping to my knees for the rest. (chaturanga is almost a push up - right?) I still remember the DOMS in my pectorals and triceps. I was in pain for a week!

My push up ability is at at its all time low now....havent been consistent with workouts in a long time :(

I honestly don't know when I will get around to starting. I am working with a trainer on some lower body imbalances right now. She doesn't even wanting me doing squats right now  I know it'll be worth it to work it all out. But I am kinda bummed that it looks like I won't be starting it when it comes out :(

Vrinda, I could NEVER do push ups on my toes, but I've been doing the push challenge that Liann mentioned with great success! Here's a link if you want to give her a go http://hundredpushups.com/index.html

I just plan on starting going right thru the program, doing my best, and seeing what happens as they say "modify when needed". I also don't plan on being in any "special" shape to start. The first time thru will be sort of a trial run. I may start after the holidays and then again I may just not be able to wait that long. Then a rest after completion. Then a more serious attempt at the series.

I too plan to follow the program as listed, doing the one rep maxes on weekends as part of my strength program until it arrives/until I'm finished. I figure once it comes I'll be able to tell what all the moves are... And if I follow the 1RM plan, I should be able to do most of it, and then limit the reps on body weight exercises according to my abilities. I figure Cathe developed the program a certain way to maximize the benefits, so why mess with a good thing?

I'm a previewer, so I will start by previewing (fast-forwarding or skipping to the next chapter as I get the jist of what's happening), and then make plans from there.

I might do the system as designed, or I might just be excited by one of the workouts that's out of sequence (I'm thinking the bonus leg workouts) and do that first.

It also depends on WHEN they arrive. If it's before my winter break, I'll have a nice time period in which to get a start on the program.
