Oh man, my boss screwed me again!

I have to send out a grant report every month, which lists pending applications, grants received, who wrote the app, etc. My boss has to review the spreadsheet and, as the CFO, update grant balances.

Last month we got a $600K grant for which I wrote the app. It was the 3rd highest in the state & I was pretty damn proud of myself. Well, my delightful boss, in the process of updating the balances, changed my spreadsheet & put himself as the author of the application.

I'm so pissed! Of course there's not a thing I can do about it except sit here & fume. What a pr*ck. He really has a way of ruining my day. :(

That's really bad for what he did to you. I think you need to talk with him about it.

Of course, you have to calm yourself down first. Your whole presentation to him had to be professional instead of sounding like personal so that it would be easy for him to take a note and make your case.

Make an appointment with him and telling him you need to discuss some questions relating to job. Opening question can be like what is the rule to file the author of application? From there, you can make your case. It is not ethic he is doing this. But I know in academic field, principals are more than likely to do that when it is a big projects.

However, you really need to have him hear your voice. If necessary, you should contact your HR. Again, make it very professional instead of sounding like personal fuss.

Good luck.

Laura--that's awful! Can you at least ask the pr!ck why he did that? Maybe he'll at least feel embarrassed for one second. I'm so sorry that happened to you. BTW, is this the same guy who used to pee on the toilet seats?

No, it's the same guy who's STILL peeing on the toilet seats!

I don't need to ask why, I think it's pretty clear. It's one of our biggest achievements (if not THE biggest) this year & he wants the credit for it.

WantFit, the only rules for my spreadsheet are the ones he makes up. And the HR department is the two of us.

God I hate it here. I can't get out fast enough. I'm starting an MA program in the spring. Hopefully some positive movement will bring positive change, before I end up in a straight jacket.

Ah, Laura. I'm so sorry. Welcome to the world of ghost writing. I've actually researched and written articles that have been submitted to scientific journals. My name has never made it on a single one of them. But then, I've always known that would be the case - it's the type of job I'm in. But yes, it still gets to me.

Oh I do ghost writing all the time. I write speeches & presentations for councilmembers. I just wrote an article for the NJ league of municipalities monthly mag, our mayor's name will be on that.

But I'm the town's grant writer! I wrote the GD grant! I'm actually recognized at the state level as one of NJ's top 5 grant writers! This man could not string a sentence together without a minimum of 5 grammatical/spelling errors, yet not only does he take credit for my accomplishment, he makes it look like he's doing my job. This is just asinine!

Geez, that "GUY!" So gross.

Yes, the rules he made up. But that would give you the opportunity to voice your opinion that you feel cheated. You should let you know that you were not happy about it. He at least should list you as co author.

God I hate it here. I can't get out fast enough. I'm starting an MA program in the spring. Hopefully some positive movement will bring positive change, before I end up in a straight jacket.

Agree, if you can't change the enviroment, then find the opportunity to jump out of ship.

I feel your pain and angry:mad:.

Well, that puts a whole different spin on it. I'd be p****d too. Is there anything at all you can do?? String him up by his toenails?

Laura I'm so sorry your boss did that.

That is just WRONG - What a royal jerk

That sucks. What can one expect from someone who pees on toilet seats. I would confront him in a nice way just say, . . "hey did you notice this?" You deserve the credit for your work.

Wow Laura~ This stinks!

You have every right to be royally pissed! Your boss sounds like a total jerk. Is there any way you can password protect your work so he can't access it?

JJ

So can you possibly hand him the next grant that needs to be written and then tell him when he's done to make sure he takes credit for it?

That is one of my pet peeves with people in management - taking credit for something they did not do. Course it only means that they are not capable and you can at least be proud even if it is only you who did it.

Self satisfaction has to sustain us sometimes!

Why isn't stealing someone else's work like this considered plagerism? It just doesn't sound legal, but then I'm an at home mom and not accustomed to work place politics.

Laura--it really sounds like your talents would best be used elsewhere. I hope you can find a job where you get credit for your hard work. You deserve better.

Sorry this happened.

Maggie

I just left a job situation with a pretty rotten boss. Took me 16 years to finally leave.

What your boss did totally sucks, but I agree with "what goes around, comes around" He'll get his in the end.
