    Stronger Lower Back

Try some deadlifts. They'll definitely strengthen your lower back.

And ANOTHER thing I would love to buy from you guys...

That's a really great idea! If Cathe doesn't want to do it, we could probably make one ourselves, presuming we had permission.

    Accuracy of Fitday.com?

I think it's pretty close, but you're probably better off entering lots of custom foods so that you know for sure. That's what I do.

    EAT TO LIVE

Also remember that ETL preaches the 90-10 rule. So if you want cheese, you can have it. But it should only take up 10 percent of your calories for the day, and the rest of your eating should be on-plan. Personally, the plan is way too strict for me. But the knowledge that he shares has...

    EAT TO LIVE

It seems a bit more extreme than a lot of what you read, but it makes perfect sense, don't you think? Most of what you eat should be what's best for you: fruits and vegetables. If you've followed the research on antioxidants and aging over the years, it doesn't come as a surprise. I must admit...

    Non-Fitness Post Regarding Italy

I went to Rome, Florence, and Verona back in September and I'd say three days in Florence would be a bit much. I've never been to Chianti, but if it were me I'd prefer seeing a new city to staying that long in Florence. Verona is a lovely little place with a very well-preserved Roman coloseum...

    eating habits/plan?

Eat to Live is a great book, even if you don't follow his plan completely. You'll learn a lot about nutrition and why you should eat your veggies.

    WEIGHTED VEST

Thanks Annette. I've been thinking about that myself, but so far it doesn't seem to cause me any discomfort or bad form. It does pull on my neck, though, but I would think a weighted vest would do the same thing.

    WEIGHTED VEST

I bought a cheap backpack at Target and put plates in it. It seems to work great. I'm up to 30 pounds worth and the backpack seems to be holding up.

Fat Loss: Clean Eating vs "Everything in Moderation"

RE: Fat Loss: Clean Eating vs I think Nancy's on the right track. It really is "calories in, calories out", but healthy foods probably make you feel less hungry, so you'll end up eating fewer calories in the end.

    peanut butter vs. cheese

Peanut butter is much better for you than cheese. As said above, cheese has saturated fat in it. Peanut butter has the "good" fats. Cheese probably has more protein, but there are much better sources of protein than either of them.

    Caffeine

I gave up caffeine last fall and since then I seem to have gained eight pounds. I'm not sure it's the caffeine that made the difference, but it does seem to be a likely culprit.

carbs and the rest of the world

I don't have much to add except that I think it's all about portion sizes. I was talking to an Italian visitor who was horrified by the gi-normous plates of pasta served here. He was used to having a small portion of pasta as one course, to be followed by meat or fish. He couldn't believe that...
