HI EVERYONE, just needed your advice, im trying to lose 20lbs. i just started using cathe's videos, i own kick max & muscle max only. i just ordered boot camp & muscle endurance. i love cardio but i hate step, so for cardio i get that part in at work we have a gym there so i work out during my lunch hour, i can get in about 35-40 mins on the bike, eliptical, or jump rope. those are my favorites. so i do that monday thru friday. then in the evening i do cathe's muscle max i was thinking of doing upper body on mondays, lower on tuesdays. wed's i was planning on doing cardio in the morning and kick max in the evening. then on thur- cardio at work, followed by upper body (muscle max) in the eve. then friday cardio at work lower body in the eve. on saturday i would do the kickmax, sunday-rest or stretching. do you think this is a good weight loss routine?? im ordering new videos slowly. next purchase is going to be pyramid upper and lower, then the slow and heavy series. i love cardio but seems like cathe has more step videos when it comes to cardio, and i just cant master the step. i dont think its hard it just too tricky and i almost hurt my knee when i miss stepped so i dont want to chance it.for my diet im going to start the burn the fat feed the muscle as soon as im done reading the full e-book, till then im eating 5 small meals a day. seems to be working so far. thanks for listening and any advice would be greatly appreciated.:) Gem

If you are at all interested in learning step you should try Cathe's beginner step work out dvd: Basic Step and Body Fusion. That's how I learned and I was a step-moron when I started!:p You don't have to do her step work outs...it's just a suggestion because it will open up a whole new world of Cathe to you! You are right in that her cardio does tend to focus around step aerobics. :)

Thanks for your advice Wendy :) . my one and only response, think i better stick to being a reader & not a poster for now......lol learn the ropes (still a newbie here).

Hey Gem,

Don't run and hide, we'd love to hear more from you.:)

Your plan to purchase the pyramids and S&H sounds good to me as I love those. However, I don't have any cardio advice as I LOVE step, but hang in there!

Welcome to the forum.

Melody is right.

Please don't get discouraged by the lack of responses. Sometimes things get lost in the shuffle and sometimes folks simply can't offer advice depending on thier knowledge, experience, etc. Everyone here has has had a post of thiers fall down the page with little or no responses but it's nothing personal. It just happens.

Hope to see you around again.:)

Wendy- thanks for reminding me of that- I've posted a few times now and didn't get much response then I would see someone else new to the board and they would get all sorts of responses and hellos-I started to think I must have not followed some sort of secret step or something- maybe I'll hang in there- deb:) :)

Well, maybe you just didn't fill out the proper 735B form....:p Or go through the initiation with the melted butter and the.... ooooh, I've said too much!

Okay, silliness aside, I think your routine sounds good, but for weight loss, you may want to try upping your cardio a bit. Have you considered purchasing KPC (Kick Punch and Crunch)? It's a great, fun kickbox workout, with the benefit of a super stability ball abs section at the end. Also, it comes on the DVD with Legs and Glutes, which is a killer leg routine.

Is it that you don't LIKE step, or that you just can't master it? Because as Wendy mentioned, there are some more beginner step workouts that will help you learn the basic moves, and you can move on from there. What about running? It's a great fat burner.

And of course, clean diet is the most important part. If you're getting into BFFM, that should be a tremendous help.

Please don't run away because you don't get lots of responses. People here really are very helpful and things sometimes do get lost in the shuffle.:)

Hi Gem!

It sounds like you have a lot of options for cardio that you do like. I wouldn't stress over not mastering step. I couldn't step either over a year ago when I found out about Cathe. Now it's my favorite thing. If you really want to learn it just take one combo at a time omit any blasts until you get the step portions down. That seemed to work for me. Or if you do have the DVD, you can choose either the step only or blast only portion to work on for awhile.

I think that the PUB is a wonderful addition to your collection. They all are, but that's a good, next choice.

Good luck with your last 20 lbs. It will happen.

ETA: Don't run away!:) You too, Deb! I think things do get lost in the shuffle. I know for me it's been crazy busy in my home life, so I can't post as much as I'd like.

Hi Deb,

We won't let you "run away" either.:7 Hang around, the butter initiation isn't THAT bad. :+

Actually Deb and Gem...the melted butter thing is kinda fun once you get past that pesky burning sensation!:7 :7 :7 :7 ;) :p

Gem, I like Shelley's idea of running. I am new to running and was influenced to try it because of this forum. :) I hated running because I was never good at it...or atleast I thought I could never BE GOOD at it. After hangin' around here and listening to all of the runners rave, I got the itch and HAD to try it! I just started tackling it about a month ago...It's a slow go but I am enjoying the challenge. You might want to consider adding it to your routine. :)

Wow thanks ladies you all are great & made my day, i did feel a little discouraged after getting the nerve to post something & then to just get 1 response i thought i said something wrong i could relate to deb. but thats the past. :) moving on. thanks for the welcome melody and your opinion. and wendy im greatful for your advice. shelley your a riot,(im ready to be initiated) get that butter out lol. but really thanks! i have thought about purchasing kpc i have kick max & love that. also i have tried running on the treadmill in intervals, it was tuff, im 5'5 and 169lbs but when im running i feel like im 300lbs im pretty toned but it feels like every inch of fat i have on me is just pounding. its uncomfortable but i like the intensity of it i love the way it challenges me, if it wasn't for that jarring feeling on my joints i would be addicted. put it this way i can only run for about 20 mins max. but all of this info is helpful. as far as the step goes im gonna give it a try again starting with the basic, i dont hate it, it just seems a little to tricky for me. but thanks again to all who responded you all made my day, your all great women and i admire each and every one of you:) thanks for your help and i hope i can be a help to you all one day...Lots of aloha, Gem

Hi Gem,

There is a good beginner running program on coolrunning.com that I have been trying to incorporate. It really seems to work, that is, if you want to run! It takes me at least 2 miles before my shins stop burning, and by mile 3.5-4 all of a sudden I feel like I could just go on and on. Weird.

Step: I thought it was too tricky at first, too. I felt like trying to figure it all out was eating up my workout time, so I just did as others have suggested and learned a section at a time *after* my "real" workout of the day. That way I didn't feel like I wasted my time. Now I really love it, and I love the feeling of accomplishment I get from learning new routines.

A hint about posts...sometimes there are real hot threads that get a lot of responses, and these can push threads to the 2nd page. You can always bump yours back to the first page by just replying to yourself, saying something like "Would really like some advice" or "Where the heck are y'all???" Nah....just kidding about that one....I, for one, usually forget to look at anything but the 1st page.

Hi Gem,
I wanted to echo Wendy's suggestion to try Cathe's Low Impact Step and Basic Step if you are at all interested in learning how to do it. Keeping the step height low might decrease the chance of tripping at first. I think you would love step if you gave it a chance. Ha ha, I think EVERYONE would love step!

I am 5'4" and am at 128ish these days, but I started at 170, so similar to you. My routine included lots of walking or walk/jogging at first. Pretty much everyday. Then I added weight work, each body part twice a week. Not with Cathe tapes, I didn't have any of her stuff then, but I had Gilad and Tamilee and I mostly just made up my own routine at first from other sources. I am happy to have Cathe now. I had done step in the past, so that worked its way back, especially once I found Cathe and new/fun workouts.

The biggest factor in my wt loss was diet. I prefer a veggie based diet, but it sounds like you have a plan for getting that in order. I really think that is the hardest part, at least it was for me. Good luck with that part. Find out what motivates you to eat a certain way. For me, I like to read or reread books about health benefits of vegan diet.

Anyway, there are many more experienced persons on this board who will help, I just wanted to chime in since we were in the very same place and I could really relate to what you said about feeling like 300 pds when you are jogging. Best wishes in your journey.:)

PS,
By the way, it is really hard for me to read posts with no capitals at the start of the sentences.

Hey Julie & Jody thanks for the response. I think whats best for me as far as step goes is to stick to her high step (circuit challenges) infact im going to purchase Cathe's high step for $99 that comes with 3 of her circuit training videos. & then add kpc. step I think is just out for me, I just tried it again the other day following along with fit tv and it was just a waste of time (for me) I was too busy trying to follow along & my heart rate didn't get up there. I will check out that web site you were telling me about because running is something i can fit in during lunch, so that works, for running I notice I do much better in intervals & with a friend pushing me along. Im glad you can relate to the running part thought it was just me, wonder if it will get better once I get down to a lighter weight, hopefully it will. and wow Jody how long did it take for you to get down to 128? to me that sounds really small I can't imagine being that light i want to go down to about 150. (145 maybe). and I want my body fat to be about 15-16% so thats my goal. and just to be healthy toned (have arms like Cathe) and just develop a healthy eating program. Im starting to eat mostly organic & shopping at the health food store & following the burn the fat feed the muscle concept. I checked my weight and im down to 167 already:) :) moving along. im so happy. but thanks again for your advice you both are great I do appreciate it. take care hope to talk to you all again soon. Aloha, Gem
