Your Favorite Movies of All-Time

I know it's cheesy but my favorite movie of all time is Grease. I idolized Olivia Newton-John when I was little.

Second favorite is Fargo.

The Color Purple. It is the most amazing film & it hits my heart every time I see it.

Hey! We Nancys even have movies in common! Cool. :D

Okay, Nancy I just gotta ask: what does the 156 represent? Don''t tell me you were born in January of 56? (You look too young).

No...actually it's the number of my house. I use it for all my names at various sites so I don't forget. I used to be all over the place and never remembered how to sign in at various sites and this just made it easier. No, I'm not telling the year of my birth (not yet anyway), but I thank you for believing that '56 is too long ago. I've definitely reached the "age" where I keep it to myself. lol

Yes, I noticed some of our common movies. My Cousin Vinny is definitely my ALL-TIME FAVORITE (I guess you have to be somehow connected with Brooklyn/Italian), along with First Wives' Club (I like women with guts.) I have them both and I'm amused every time I watch them.:) We'd probably get along well.

So what does "324" represent?

Isn't First Wives Club the greatest? I'm so glad someone else likes it as much as I do.

324 = March 24. My b-day.

I can't believe this entire thread lists all these fantastic movies with the most obvious exception!!

PILLOW TALK!!!!!!!!!!!:p

That movie always makes me feel better- along with the original (of course, always the original, except Sabrina) Parent Trap.

I love movies. You guys have definitely reminded me to put some of these goodies on my Netflix queue!!!

Jillybean, this same topic comes up over again through the years, but you're the first person I've seen post about Requiem for A Dream. That is also one of my faves. Haunting and unsettling. In fact your whole list is awesome.

Marla

Gladiator- I love period pieces I was literally blown away with this one.
Ridicule- A French period piece that shows the glaring ugliness of humankind
Requiem for a Dream- Very haunting. Even the score was unnerving.
Dream Life of Angels
An Affair of Love
Drugstore Cowboy

Okay, now that I am sounding like a perennial depressive sort, I will admit, love the usual as well.

Shawshank Redemption
E.T.
Say Anything
Driving Miss Daisy
Pretty Woman
Grease
Legally Blonde

Etc., but those are easy to love.

Marla

I've thought of several more movies I can watch again and again:

* Penny Serenade - Cary Grant and Irene Dunne
* Mrs. Miniver - Walter Pidgeon and Greer Garson
* Rear Window
* Vertigo
* Suspicion - Cary Grant and Joan Fontaine
* Notorious - Cary Grant and Ingrid Bergman
* Gaslight - Ingrid Bergman and Charles Boyer
* It's a Wonderful Life - Well, anything with Jimmy Stewart
* It Takes a Thief

Okay, I do like a few contemporary films - sort of;):

* Moonstruck
* October Sky - Love it!
* Driving Miss Daisy
* Elizabeth - (I cannot even believe that twit Gwyneth Paltrow beat out Cate Blanchett for best actress - I mean, it wasn't even close in my opinion)
* Shawshank Redemption
* Best in Show - Absolutely the funniest movie I've ever seen. I laugh until tears are streaming down my face every time I watch it.
* Pride and Predjudice with Jennifer Ehle and Colin Firth. I want to see the latest remake but I don't see how Keira Knightley can possibly improve upon Jennifer's Elizabeth Bennett.
* Sense and Sensibility
* All those Merchant & Ivory period pieces

My favorite foreign language films:

* Life is Beautiful - Italian
* Europa, Europa - German
* Cinema Paradiso - Italian
* Malena - Italian
* The Chorus - French
* The Road Home - Chinese - a beautiful film!
* Das Boot - German
* Amelie - French
* Il Postino - Italian
* A Very Long Engagement - French

There are just so many, I could go on and on.

For all those who love You've Got Mail: my DH and I love it because we met on the internet. DH cycles up the bike path on the west side of Manhattan all the time, and early on he identified the exact spot where Meg Ryan is standing in the very last scene in the movie when Tom Hanks comes over the little hill to meet her. The spot is about halfway up his bike path, so he entices me to go with him by saying "we'll just go up to You've Got Mail and back", cuz that's usually as far as I can make it before my legs give out. It's a beautiful little spot where the local residents diligently tend to those gorgeous flowers.

"Requiem For A Dream" is a wonderful film. Harrowing and disturbing, yes - but well worth the uneasiness. This movie offers 4 of the best performances I've ever seen. Ellen Burstyn (sorry, Julia) should have won the Academy Award that year. Every time I watch this movie, she breaks my heart.
