i am finding ashtanga yoga to offer an awesome upper body workout..
i have had to redesign my workouts to accomodate hip and shoulder injuries and have been doing several styles of yoga instead of some of my usual workouts.....
Ashtanga is a "flowing" and active yoga form... with a lot of repeated floating planks and downward dog positioning ..
try:
floating plank
Its like like a pushup position but the hands are at your sides by the breasts and elbows bent close to the body.... keep the body in a plank position an inch off the floor for a minute)
or try:
sit cross legged on the floor with your hands flat on the floor beside you ... then lift your body off the floor using your hands to support you..
whew!!
if that is doable... you can try staightening the legs out in front of your or behind you before letting them down.
Relaxing this is not!
These yoga folk get really really strong!
