Congratulations Amy! That is a terrific time :-wow !!

This week was a bit slow for me, and now I am waking up to a guest in the apartment, who is evidently staying for an entire week. Yuck! And he didn't even let us know he was coming until last week, and neither of us has ever met him before (son of a business partner of SO). I am thouroughly annoyed by this situation, but will make the best of it. He's a nice guy, and at least he's not sleeping on the couch, which would make it impossible to workout in the mornings!
Ok, enough griping!

MONDAY: Franny 9905 step (1st 30 min.) + Step Fever cd (YUCK--I am going to trade that DVD!!!)

TUESDAY: Hi-Lo Heaven I + Still Jumpin' II and cd

WEDNESDAY: rest
THURSDAY: rest

FRIDAY: Power Hour, S&H abs, Tamilee standing stretch
CTX KB wu + 20 min + CK power drills, cd and stretch

SATURDAY: 60 minute hike in beautiful Sedona, AZ!

SUNDAY: I have a pretty dreadful cough and cold, so I think I'll take a break!

Hope you all have a great week!
Wendy

Aimee -- Congratulations! I hope I can be that fast someday, especially now that you're in my age group!

I started experimenting this week with Body for Life/Body Rx eating. I definitely prefer the latter. I really want to put on some muscle and stop this yearly five pound creep into my lower abs and upper thighs.

SUNDAY: 9.9 mile bike (should have gone back out for another .1 to even it up? :) ); CTX triceps
MONDAY: summit of Estes Cone in Rocky Mountain National Park – 6.6 miles - any day's a good day when you hike up a volcano; CTX shoulders
TUESDAY: walk/run :43 (2/2 cycles x 6), CTX biceps
WEDNESDAY: Cardio Kicks to power hops, CTX Kickbox arm drills, CTX chest (had to baby a sore Achilles -- I should know better than to run in brand new shoes)
THURSDAY: Pilates studio class
FRIDAY: off
SATURDAY: Pilates studio class, run/walk :45 (2:30/1:30 x 5)

I'm ready for an all-Cathe step and weights workout today. :-jumpy It's been a long time.

Another Congrats for you Aimee! I can only dream of being that fast :)

I did not feel very motivated this week at all. Training for a race gets to be too tedious at times.

Sun. CTX chest, back, and half of shoulders till son woke up and would not go back to sleep.

Mon. Runervals 1.0, PH abs, CTX bis and tris

Tue. 5 mile run

Wed. rest

Thu. 4 mile run

Fri. Total body weights on my own. Boring.

Sat. rest

Andrea

Andrea, what race are you raining for? My next one is at the end of Oct. It's called the Spook Out:).
I know what you mean about tediousness(is that a word?) But I still keep coming back for more;-)!
Good Luck!!

Aimee

stealth check-in?

Hi everyone!

Be kind to legs week after last week's hike:

Mon: swimming class
Tue: Pilates mat class (aka a rest day)
Wed: swimming class - swam a mile freestyle :-wow (it's a milestone for me)
Thur: (finally ready to test the legs) trot 28 min w/ hounds; PS CST; PH abs (no planks)
Fri: cycle :D (23.5 miles, fast & flat) PS BB; S&H supermans & planks (note to self: don't do PS on consecutive days :-tired)
Sat: Backbay run w/ DH - 90 minutes
Sun: (another rest day) Balance ball workouts - stretching & abs

Knees & the rest of my lower body have recovered nicely. Found a local 1/2 marathon on 11/3 which is great timing. Five weeks to go from 90 minutes to 2 hours on my long run. I'm going to try the Runners' World 4 day training plan (1 day is a recovery run). The long runs don't wipe me out the way the training hikes did. So nice to be energized on Sunday.

Two professors recruited me for local events this week. So I have a 10K coming up in October. My swimming coach organizes a lot of events, so we either have to run them or staff them.

Andrea & Aimee, I guess I've done so much solo work on my bike that solo runs don't bother me mentally. I do like loops more than "out & back" - the time goes faster. Just an idea.

Have a great week everyone!
Debra

Aimee and Debra

Aimee, the race I'm doing is in Vegas and is called Buck Henson's Northern Exposure 10K. It benefits the Air Force Base in Vegas. I went for my first 6 mile run yesterday and was very happy with my time, but my right side (lower back, waist, hip/leg joint, and knee) aren't feeling too good. It was pretty depressing yesterday afternoon and I'm starting to rethink the half marathon I wanted to do in February. But who knows...after a few days it may clear up and I'll be in better spirits! Have fun trainig for your race. I know what you mean about the racing bug!

Debra, I do loops every chance I get. I have some GREAT places to run here. My favorite 3 mile trail is an out back, but otherwise I usually do loops. The great part is they are almost ALL dirt. I'm finally seeing some strength gains in my legs too. They don't feel so dead at anything over 3 miles. Did you ever find a "fuel" that worked well for your long runs? While I was running yesterday I was trying to imagine eating a piece of Luna or Oatbar and it didn't sound to appetizing!

Andrea

Congrats to you Aimee!! Great time you made!:) Be proud!!

My week was cut short by a viral infection so Monday's Circuit MAx was all I got to do! This infection totally blew me down. The Dr. said it'll be about 10 days total til I start to feel back to normal(3 days to go!!). I have been so irritable and grumpy. Not being able to workout plus being so sick and to top it off it was TTOTM!!! Could ones week get any worse??
Hopefully next week I'll write in happier news! Take care everyone!! Susan

Hi Andrea!

How does Northern Exposure tie into a Vegas event?

Is 6 miles a big jump for you? Wonder if that's why you're sore. Got to love those dirt roads & trails!

I started fueling during runs when I went beyond 1 hour. Tried a gel & just didn't like the texture or taste (like jam). DH loves them as do most people. I bring a piece of Powerbar in a baggie & just take a nibble once in awhile. I've found Powerbars to be easy to digest during workouts. A friend that does endurance runs (beyond marathon distance) eats gummy bears amongst other things. Both gels & bars need lots of fluid. On our long runs, DH & I walk for 1 minute at the 15's. It gives us a chance to drink & fuel. Imagine I'll need more walking if I ever go beyond the 1/2.

Hope your aches disappear quickly.
