YEAH! Finally got a barbell set!

I told myself that I wasn't going to buy any fitness equipment for a while since I have recently treated myself to several Cathe series. I had convinced myself that I could do the workouts just fine with my dumbbells and that a barbell would just have to wait a while. But lo and behold, I am cruising Target and they have a barbell/dumbbell set with plates included (110 pounds) and spring collars (6) for $35!!!!!!!!! Granted, this is not the Taj Mahal of barbell sets, but for that price, how could I say no!!! I'm so excited because now I can do Cathe's workouts the way they were meant to be done.

Just had to share because I am positively giddy to do CTX upper body tomorrow!

Ah, yes. That feeling of power of owning your very own barbell set. I know it well.

This post is actually timely since I bought some more plates today to add to my collection: 2-10# plates and 2-7 1/2# plates.

I didn't even know they made 7 1/2 plates. Now they can take the place of my 5s and 2 1/2s so my bar is nice and tidy. :D

You know what, tho? Those individual plates are pricey at 50 cents per lb. My total was $17.50 just for those 4 plates, and I paid $39.99 for my original set of #110 barbell/dumbbells and plates.

in May I paid $25.00 for my barbell set of 120 lbs, I think I got a pretty good deal at da wal-mart..... Rhonda :7

I think you need a barbell for Cathe's workouts if you've been consistently training because you'll need to lift heavier and heavier! I've been using that same Target barbell for several months with no problems whatsoever. The spring clips change so easily -- I'm usually faster at changing plates than Cathe and crew on PLB. You'll love having a barbell!

What brand is this set from Target?

Hello ladies,
I am curious as to what brand barbell set you got at Target? I am "this close" to buying the 55 lb. U.S. Weight set from Walmart online taht Cathe uses in the Intensity series. The problem there is that I can only get it online-I'm too impatient for that!! Besides, the set costs $19.66, but the shipping is $20.99. I'm too thrifty to spend the extra money if I can go to a store and buy it myself. Please let me know about this set, I will visit my Target as soon as possible!!!

Thanks,

RE: What brand is this set from Target?

The information that came in the box says SportWorks. The box is a lighter shade of blue and Target sells a whole array of products from this company. I have a feeling it may be Target's proprietory brand.

The regular price was $49.99 and the Target by my house had them marked down to $35. I, too, considered buying the Walmart set but a) I had a hard time stomaching that the shipping and handling was more than the cost of the set, and b) I wanted to use it right away, I hate waitingx( .

I'm really enjoying the set (it also came with dumbbell handles and spring collars for those too) and am already contemplating buying some 2 1/2 pound weights so I can more slowly add weight to the bar (the set only comes with 5's, 10's and 25's).

HTH,
Sabine

Good for you! I was very happy the other day to b/c I FINALLY came across some 12 lbs dumbbells. There was one set in the town I live but they were $25 each. There was no way I was paying that much for them.I just went on vacation and when I was in the mall I came across a set for $24.I think my collection is finally complete, unless I ever want to buy 25lb dumbbells!

RE: What brand is this set from Target?

I think the brand is "Prolife" or something similar. It included two dumbbell bars which I use for 20#ers. I really needed some 20#ers but I didn't want to spend $40.00 on those so the barbell set saved me that money too. I think the whole set was $59.99. It didn't include 2 1/2 lb plates so I bought 4 of those at Dick's for about $1.50 each. HTH!

RE: What brand is this set from Target?

Hello Sabine, Susan, and everyone!
I'm so glad you posted this - looks like I'll be calling my local Target to see if they have this. I looked online and couldn't find any barbell sets there. Keeping my fingers crossed!!! If you don't mind my asking, how much does the bar weigh with this set? I think you said the total set was 110 lbs? So how many of each plate did you get, etc. Sorry to be a pain, but I got the wrong set at Walmart the other day (Rhonda, I think this is the same 120 lb. set you got -you must be lifting way more than I can & I salute you!) Anyway, I couldn't use it because there were 4 20 lb. plates, then it went to something like 7 1/2's and no happy 5 lb. or 10 lb. plates! I need simple math, I am not good at focusing on more than the basics when Cathe is getting ready to go! LOL!! Thanks again for the input, I am sooo ready to have a new barbell, but I don't want to clutter up the house with ones I've tried and didn't like.

TTFN,

RE: What brand is this set from Target?

The bar weighs 5 lbs. and the plates total 110 lbs. It comes with 2 25 lb. plates, 4 10 lb. plates, and 4 5 lb. plates, the barbell (which comes in two pieces, assembly is easy), two dumbbell handles, and 6 spring collars. All the Target's in my area carry this set and I saw the same thing that it was not listed on the website. I'm really happy with the set and ecstatic about the price. Some other sets that I had seen were either way too much weight for me to handle or too expensive.

Good luck! I hope that the Target stores in your area carry it.
