Yams, sweet potatoes, & potatoes

I know yams & sweet potatoes are better than potatoes cuz they have more fiber, but my question is, don't they have the same amount of carbs and calories? Although I get more nutrition from yams and sweet potatoes, at the same time, I get the same amount of calories/ fat and carbs as potatoes. Therefore, eating yams and sweet potatoes aren't necessarily better than eating potatoes, and it doesn't help for people losing weight, does it?

Same with white rice and brown rice. Brown rice is just rice without being processed that the outer layer is not taken off from the rice. And white rice is just brown rice without the outer layer. So why is eating brown rice better for people who want to lose weight?

Yams, sweet potatoes and brown rice contain more fiber, and as a result have a lower glycemic index. This promotes less of an insulin response. Keeping your insulin levels, and therefore blood glucose levels, at steady state which keeps wild energy swings and hunger at bay, and reduces the likelihood that one would develop insulin resistance and/or diabetes.
