yam slicer

i love yam french fries--- but hate slicing them. does anyone know of a gadget to do this? i did buy a mandoline (?) -- great success w/ potato but ended up slicing my palm w/ the yam--- too tough!

do you have a food processor? most come with a slicing disc and i used mine frequently until i got a kitchenaid stand mixer. i never had any problems with the slicing disc that came with my processor and would still be using it now except that my mixer stays out on the counter all the time so its less work. however, the grater/slicer attachment for kitchenaid does need to be purchased separately.

i don't have one.. i really don't cook that much, but love to roast the yams with veggies.

The mandoline didn't work?

I just made some yam chips, and didn't have any problem slicing the yams on my mandoline (I did use the holder with it, so no chance of cutting myself). Maybe yours isn't sharp enough?
