Go BEARS!!!!!!!!!!!! :+ Got to sleep in til 4:30am !! Pups all at gate just staring at me! Quite a site at that hour... Will be back with personals in a bit but gotta ask ... Jeanette, Debra... DO YOU EVER GO TO SLEEP????????? :+

Back in a few!:7

Well sadness is diminishing as I awoke with the BEST chest & shoulder DOMS! I have a burn in a “new part” of shoulders (lower front) that make me look like I have Cathe arms.. Well it’s TRUE if ya turn the light out – lite a little candle and stand just right! Ha
Problem is to figure out if it was just because I lifted 15’s for all shoulders or WHICH exercise gave it to me, Cathe, Amy, or Oxygen Magazine W/O … Oh my, it’s always a guessing game for me!

Today is a Lower Cardio Day (plyo sub) so I will be tackling for the first time ever Drill Max Cardio Leg Blast (mix #4). Its 54 minutes but I think it will feel like a half marathon! I also will do my Ellen Barrett Yoga Pilates Blend to work abs a bit.

Thanks so much for all the support & wonderful suggestions yesterday about my Tony Withdrawals. The change is obviously doing me some good and I have to ask myself if I want to continue w/ results or “like” my instructor. For now I will keep on with changing it up and if a day comes that I am going to blow off a w/o then I’ll pop in Tony.

Sandra:
You had me smiling with the cough syrup/Kenpo workout! I’d be so loopy that those weighted gloves would have ended up in my face! Good for you for not taking the easy way out of yesterday! I didn’t realize that you were so far along in your program! Already heading into Week 2 of Phase 3! OMG you are almost done too! ^^^ 5 for sticking with it & tweaking to meet your needs! Thanks for reminder about rotation police! LOLOLOLOL! I have indeed “altered” my plan and will spare you all the details.. I shall just post each day my plan and we’ll take it from there! Once a few more of you get thrown in the Post Mix I’m sure I’ll continue to tweak. My general premise is staying the same just making sure I do Legs a bit more (3x) in a 7 day period. They already are starting to feel/look mushy again after just the recovery week. Your plan to add standing legs looks really good too! I was always tempted to do that but mentally I was loving the 1 hour workouts so never did. I’m over it… Past 2 days was over an hour by choice. Tell DH the X’ers are very very proud! Maybe he can start a check in with Jeanette & X’s DH… We can all LURK! Hope your rare restaurant dining experience was delightful!

Jeanette: You will be done with your 60 miler by the time you read this! Hope it was incredible and I so relate to the wonderful feeling of warm sun hitting bare legs & arms! I love when it warms up enough to strip down a bit. YES it was very difficult to lift to my own cadence! Actually the lifting was easy because my weights were my heavy end – it was the COUNTING that I couldn’t do. I logged my wts and forgot about the rep count as I was getting really frustrated and guessing anyway! I am not one who can do it to my own music as I need the instructor motivation & generally like their music. Do want to hear about your triathlon some day… What an accomplishment that is!

Debra: My nite owl friend! LOL when you are going to bed I’m usually starting to wake up every ½ hour ! Quite a pair we’d be as room mates. Hope your Sunday is off to a great start!

Tracy, Laurie, X, DB, Lea, Deb, Monica, Steph: Hope everyone is healthy today and planning fun festivities for game day!

CL/PH3/WEEK1/Day7: XStretch

Good morning,
I'm up all bright eyed and bushy tailed this morning. I have no idea why. It feels great though. No Sunday sleep in for me, as we have a busy day planned. If I want to get any academic work done, I have to do it now (okay, I don't actually want to get any academic work done, but I feel obligated to do so, so I will). DH and I will be doing XStretch later this morning. Get this - he even *asked* me yesterday whether we were doing the stretch workout today! He seemed to....want to do it! Colour me surprised.

Jeanette - your day in the desert sounds like it was really, really enjoyable. Very curious about the cottonwood trees. Any chance you can put some of the pictures on your picture trail? Where do you live, btw? For some reason I picture you living in Las Vegas, but I don't think that's right. DH and I also enjoy camping a lot, but haven't done much of it since the children were born. Actually, we used to be huge into backpacking. One portion of our honeymoon was a 6 day hike north of Lake Superior. Until DD#1 was born, we went on backpacking journeys to celebrate our wedding anniversary. My favourite trip was hiking the Chilkoot Trail (a Klondike trail) that starts near Skagway, Alaska and ends on a lake in the Yukon. My goal is to do that one again some day. We also did the West Coast Trail, on Vancouver Island. Loooooooved it! Like Traci, I would also like to hear about your Triathalon some day. I didn't know you had running legs, too! I don't know which Spinervals DH has. A couple of long, intense ones, and one that is a "Time Saver", with a few shorter ones on it. He'll start with one of those. He did the P90 weight workout yesterday, using heavier weights for the first time. He actually broke a sweat. I look forward to hearing your 60 mile bike ride report. Not too many flat tires, I hope.

Debra - aren't you near the end of P90X? What's the countdown for you?

TraciX - Ahhhh, a nice sleep for you last night! I only slept a half hour longer than you. Cute about the pups at the gate. One reason I don't want to get another pet any time soon is because of their night time activities. We had 2 cats for 13+ years, and they seemed to like to howl and play a lot at night. One used to sleep on my head. Very reassuring about the DOMS. You obviously challenged yourself very well! I bought that edition of Oxygen magazine yesterday. I like the magazine, but really dislike the heavy amount of advertisements for fat-burning products. Did you get a look at that plyo workout they have in there? Oh my.....Let's keep Cathe away from that. I'm not sure I want to see those moves in her next cardio workout....If you're following one of the two upper body workouts in that edition, then you're working very hard! Tricep dips on a medicine ball? Ho ho! And the bicep curl where you go up to your face - she does 20 of those with 40 pounds, times 3 or 4 sets?! That seems like a bit much. But don't let me stop anyone who's crazy enough to try! I like the idea of the DH Check In, but it ain't gonna happen with mine. He's not a writer. I wonder what they'd say, though? Stuff about how their wives are sadistic gym-teacher wannabes, I'll bet. Our dinner out last night was really, really nice. The kids were decently behaved and the food was DE-licious (steak, baked potato, salad, bread, pecan-chocolate brownie with ice cream, hot fudge sauce & whipped cream). Obviously my meal was not clean, but I'm very happy that I was able to control my portion intake. I didn't eat the entire portion of anything. I was nicely satisfied when we left, but not stuffed. I still have half my steak in the fridge. I'll make a sandwich with it today or tomorrow.

TracyX! - can I be the first to officially call you that? How did yoga go yesterday? Did you take your final measurements? Do you have any positive results to post? I asked DH if he notices any differences in my physique, and he said no. x( I choose to interpret that to mean that I was in such great condition when I started that there really isn't much room for improvement:p (without going to dietary extremes, that is). I was looking at some of the "Figure" Competitives in Oxygen magazine, and have to say that I'm happy not living that life.

Steph, Monica, X, DB, LeaX (where are you?), Laurie, Gayle (still with us?), Nancy, and anyone else I missed - have a great workout and I look forward to hearing how it went.

Ya'll aren't going to spend the day watching football, are you?
Cheers,
Sandra
-going bowling this afternoon.

Good morning,

It's almost 6:00 a.m. here in the west, will be leaving for my bike ride around 7:00 a.m., 2 plus hour drive to where we start near Chico, California.

Sandra, I live up here in northeastern California. Biggest closest town is Reno, Nevada, about 80 miles southeast of here (Susanville, CA). This evening I will try to download pictures of our trip yesterday. Sure was fun, but boy was I dirty and dusty. We have a half windshield on the front of the Rhino that really cuts the windchill but also creates a vacuum and you get more dust behind the windshield. It's coming off when Spring hits, but it sure keeps you a lot warmer during cold weather so guess it's worth it. Your backpacking sounds wonderful! We've never done any of that before. Sounds too ambitious for us for sure. DH doesn't use the computer at all and hey, no problem with that for me so guess he won't be hogging it posting on some silly check in LOL!!! Lord knows his wife whittles enough time away on it. Is your DH anxious to start his Spinervals yet? They are not my favorite thing to do, but sure help when you can't be outside. Thanks for the well wishes for zero flat tires. Hoping for a flat free day today! I'll have to find my thread from September's triathlon when I come back later today. A runner I am not!

Guess I'd better go start the car now and get ready to go.

Hi Traci! Will post my triathlon "disaster" tonite.

Jeanette

Hi all,

It's now officially Tracy X. I want to thank everyone for thier support and congratulations. I couldn't have persevered with the intensity that I 'thought' I had without the support of this group.

I did the long premix of Eion Finn last night. If anyone has tight hips that dvd is wonderful. I think stretching out the hip/glute has improved my overall flexibility. Glutes are sometimes an overlooked area for stretching.

We are in the deep freeze here, so I'll have to sub some alternate cardio for running this week. I'm just not that hardcore to run when its 20. My plan for today is to take the dogs for a long walk and then do the leg blast premix of b&g with some extra squats etc.

Traci - Up early again???? The early mornings, lack of sleep, would reek havoc on my emotional state not to mention hormones. I'm a real believer that the mental part of working out is just as important as the physical, so find something that you are happy with. If you think about it from a results perspective, then changing it up is probably the best thing. Doesn't it su** that muscles can start looking mushing in such a short time. Age is not kind to us in that respect. That's why I've been doing legs 3x per week. I like it when they feel hard! I'm a standing leg person. You will never catch me doing floorwork. It was so refreshing to find Sandra who hates floorwork too.

Sandra - You are up bright and early today. Glad you had a nice dinner with the family. At least you didn't have to cook and clean up. I didn't take any measurements at the beginning, but maybe I'll post some pictures. I'm definitely more musculare and my core is better. You are so good for doing that KM blast challenge. For some reason that has a HUGE dread factor for me. If you can go heavy then I suggest doing that for a while. When I do the leg blast premix, I always add in extra squats and deadlifts with a heavy barbell, then do the rest as heavy as I can. My other leg workouts for the week will focus mostly on the core leg exercises like squats, deadlifts and lunges, but I never do the same lunges and deadlifts two sessions in a row, if that makes sense. My husband even commented that I have more dfinition in my legs than ever before.

Stephanie - Did you make it another day without a candy bar? I always find that after I've been eating some junk for a few days in a row, it's like I have withdrawals. Sugar is evil.

Lea - Big superbowl party planned? Are you finished yet? Feeling better?

Monica - I think you'll enjoy the gym styles. I like slow and heavy too, but have to be in the mood for it. I wish that I had it on dvd because then I could make it cicruit like and just go from one exercise to another body part exercise without that minute break. I get so antsy during that break. I'm up cleaning or something.

Debra - How did the house showing go? I bet it's a pain to keep the house show ready at the drop of a hat. Real estate market is slow here, but I have seen a few sold signs so maybe it's begging to pick up again. You and Jeanette are going to bed just a couple of hours before I'm getting up.

Suz - I went back and read your post from yesterday. You did all of those workouts in one day? You go girl! How are you feeling today?

Jeanette - Your day at the desert sounds wonderful and I envy you. We love to camp and spend time outdoors. We have some property about 3 hours from here and we go camp there when the weather is bearable. Not sure where we'll go this year for vacation, but I can't wait. We camped off and on for 3 weeks last year and covered 22 states in 3 weeks. It was wonderful. I hope your bike ride is fantastic! Enjoy every minute of it! A two hour drive to the start makes for a long day. Do you carry flat repair stuff? I usually don't, but know I should. I do carry my cell phone. When we used to mountain bike we did. Way too many flats with that. None with the road bike yet, although I did break the valve once using our old pump, so I bought a new pump.

Nancy - I haven't had a chance to view your stats, but sounds like your doing good. My waist is definitely the smallest it's been in a while and I posted this earlier, but I think that I actually lost internal abdominal fat. Something that I'd been carrying for more years than I'll reveal.

X, DB, Laurie and anyone else that I missed, I look forward to reading your posts when you have time to get back to us.

I'll be home all day. Running errands, food stuff, was miserable yesterday. I guess everyone was preparing for the superbowl. BBL.

LEAN/Phase 2/Week 8/Day 5

Well, yesterday I was supposed to do KenpoX, but because of my disheartening weight increase, I decided to do Cathe’s Kick Max. I think it was Sandra who motivated me last night to do that one. Oh, Mommy, as Tony would say. Those blasts are a killer! I managed OK, but had to walk in place during the transitions when Cathe was still doing those jogs. I’m supposed to do CardioX today, but thinking I’ll do Plyometrics instead.

I just received my Gym Style workouts, but now I'm thinking I need the S&H that everyone's talking about.

TraciX - Well, your muscle confusion must be working if you’ve got the chest/shoulder DOMS today! LOVE IT, don’t you? Let us know how the Drill Max leg blast thing goes. Does that have any weight work in it? I haven’t done that one yet. I’m really liking the creative stuff your doing with your workouts! I know what you mean about Tony withdrawal. I remember having Cathe withdrawal when I started P90X! I do think you’re doing the right thing, and not just doing the Master’s Series after P90X. It sounds like it would be more of the same.

Sandra - Yep, it was you who made me think of KickMax last night. I, however, was not enjoying myself. I did pretty well until those power lunge switch thingys and I couldn’t go too low on those to finish them. I think I’ll do what you did next time, though, and do Kenpo first followed by the Blast Challenge. Tony’s works the arms and core much better in that one, I think. I’ve also got academic work to do today, unfortunately. I only have a reflection to write, though, so it shouldn’t be too bad. I did miss work on Friday to take my DS to the doctor, and now have tons of lesson plans that I have to do for tomorrow! That’s what I’ll be doing after I do the check in, I’m sure!

Jeanette - Oh, your day in the desert sounds so nice! Here it’s been so terribly cold we can’t do anything outside. I actually love winter, but can’t wait until spring - baseball season, trips to the park, bike riding, etc. I wanna get OUT of this house! Our Spring Break is in the middle of March and I don’t know if I can wait that long. And you say it’s going to be in the 70’s today? WOW! Have an amazing bike ride today! I know you’ll be busy, but we hope you find time to update us on the ride today!

Debra - Yeah, that’s our weather here, too. Bitter cold and the furnace runs ALL THE TIME! How did the house showing go? Are you moving to a different city, or just moving houses? Maybe your new house will have a hot tub for after those grueling workouts, like Suz? I LOVE Rhythmic Step and can’t wait to try that one again after many weeks off the Cathe wagon. (I know I say that about every Cathe workout anyone mentions!) Enjoy that arm burn in Ch-Sh-Tris!

TracyX - Yay, a P90X graduate! Way to go, girl! We’re all anxiously waiting to see if you’re going to post any results. Did you take measurements before? I like the idea of doing the workouts to your own music - that way you can focus on what you’re doing and concentrate on how heavy you can go and go for your own personal muscle failure. On the other hand, I really need someone to push me when I’m thinking, “Ouch, this is too hard. I think I’d better quit.” Also, thank you for your comment about muscles retaining water when they are being worked hard. I guess I didn’t know that, and it makes sense, because I didn’t even realize by the fit of my clothes that I had gained weight. I’m going to strive to continue to eat better, but not worry about the scale. You're right about sugar being evil - I truely think I'm addicted to it. I didn't have a candy bar yesterday, either. (or ice cream, or a cookie!) I also think you're right about the withdrawals. I just got so used to having that candy bar everyday and now I'm going to really have to work to break that habit.

Amber - Thank you, thank you for posting your experience about the weight gain. That is very encouraging. I’m thinking my core is looking pretty good and my clothes fit fine, so I was so stressed and confused! I’m almost to week 9 and I’m definitely finishing this thing.

Monica - How’re you hanging in there? We’re still all thinking of you! I’m wishing you a relaxing weekend!

Suz - Oh, man! You have a hot tub? I’m so jealous. DH and I talk about getting one. It would be so nice to soak in one after someone, say, really had a tough KickMax workout! LOL! We keep thinking that it would be difficult to keep it clean, etc. On chin ups, I haven’t tried to lower myself down to straight arms. I will try that next time if I remember. Do you really feel that in your back? I have the hardest time trying to find a modification where my back is really working.

Happy workouts to all who follow! Everyone enjoy their SuperBowl Sunday!
Steph

Happy Mid Day!
Accomplished the task at hand… Power Yoga (Kest) 6 min Power Abs advanced (I clocked it as 13minutes tho)… Drill Max Cardio Leg Blast DONE! OMG gang… that is so good as a Plyo day sub!! Cathe actually does so many functional moves as part of this that it’s a Core Syn/PloX mix. I LOVED IT – my legs are really very tired but the true test will be to see if DOMS hit tomorrow. So far so good on keeping X philosophy in my workouts…. WHEW```` Because I wanted to keep it lower focused as I have DOMS + Back Bi & Tri tomorrow, I did 2 things differently. I wore my 1# Boxing Gloves throughout workout so I did not hold dumbbells or stability ball when Cathe did. Sure made those squat thrusts at the end more do-able on the wrists as well.

DEBRA: Don’t worry about re-creating all your eloquent replies! We know you’re here supporting & encouraging. Just update us on your stuff. Hope you BRING IT good to Ch-Sh Tri! Do a couple extra pushups for me ok?

STEPH: ROFL “”I decided to do Cathe’s Kick Max. I think it was Sandra who motivated me last night to do that one. Oh, Mommy, as Tony would say.””” Good one Steph!! I always walk in place too during Cathes “recovery” – she’s just NUTS! As far as SH Series. IMO If you like lifting heavy & Slower then GS & SH are the only 2 Cathes that really get ya good. I love SH as a 1 part per day because you can REALLY worki it all awesome! Go ahead & take the plunge- How about a congrats gift for making it to Phase 3??? Hope you get your academics done today as I’m sure you stress about it like Sandra when you don’t. Happy Plyo-ing today! You are half way thru the toughest sweet withdrawals! Another couple of days and that nasty sugar will be gone from your system. You can do it! If ya just gotta have something have you tried Dark Chocolote? That’s at least suppose to be heart healthy(?) in small doses.

TRACY-X: WooHoo! Sounds like you are going full speed ahead with that Leg Blast Mix of B&G! You go girl!! DH reminded me this morning that all I talked about Ph 3 was taking a week off after X was done… I haven’t taken a day off in a week and am planning Saturday as my first rest day… Part of it is that I don’t want to procrastinate too much since I am on a lifting roll and part is that this is my full energy week hormonally so I want to take full advantage. We’ll see if I can keep the pace all week. Is Eion Finn a yoga dude? I would love some hip opening things but not sure if I want to add to my Yoga collection just yet… still haven’t found the “love” everyone else has for it.

Jeanette: Forgot you were on West Coast time …. I love the Chico area… cant say enough good things about that CA college communities. I was born in Vallejo… Do you know where that is?

SANDRA: BOWLING???? I want to go! I love bowling!!! So whats your best score? I think mine was 120 or something… pathetic! Of course you interpreted DH comment accurately… what man is dumb enough to make a sarcastic comment to a woman who lifts the wt you do? I totally agree about OXY MAG & Ads… I just flip away until I find the articles… The Shoulder / Arm stuff I’m including are on pages 73-76. That may very well be what got my shoulders yesterday. I only did 2 sets and certainly NOT at the suggested wt but just went heavy for me. Nice job on portion control at dinner last night… restaurant eating is still such a disaster for me…. I don’t know what the mental block is with that.

Well I need to shower & get busy in the kitchen for DH's junk food fest! Already have Chili Con Queso in the slow cooker and made the Guacamole at 7am so its just getting stuff together. He'll start at noon and just eat his way thru gametime which is 3:30 start time here... ME, my plan is to eat my regular clean day BUT pop open a bottle of wine. Hope to BBL to see all who I may miss.

Hi all,

B&G leg blast premix is done. I like that one and think it is a good overall leg workout with a few modifications. I added some regular and plie squats, did all straight reps, no pulses except on the lunge combo, and I use heavier weights than Cathe. It really feels like my quads, hamstrings and glutes are worked thoroughly. I can honestly say that I’m glad when it’s over.

Stephanie – Amazon has S&H for 39.95. That’s a little cheaper. I think their freight is $3, so that really isn’t that much savings. I have to say, I don’t do KM often. I never could work the combinations hard enough to feel like I was getting anything and even though I think the leg drills are great, they are like floor work to me and I hate it.

Debra – Did you do Rhythmic Step? I also love that one, but I did it so many times that I can only do it once every 2-3 months now. Sorry about things not going well. They’ll eventually get better I’m sure. What’s that saying, “It’s not what happens to you, but how you handle it?” I know, much easier said than done!

Traci – I haven’t tried that DM premix. I like that dvd though. I’ll have to do that one soon. Yeah, Eion is a yoga dude. He’s a close second to Kest for me. A little easier maybe? If you want DOMS in your legs, try the B&G leg blast premix. I had DOMS for a couple of days last time. It’s very freestyle like. I don’t like too much DOMS in my legs because of working them 3 days a week.

Sandra – I missed your comment about bowling. My 17 year old, who doesn’t like parties etc., goes bowling at least once a week. He’s the one who also rides mtn bikes. There probably aren’t many bikers who bowl. Hope the family has fun.

Off to shower and then hit the trails for my walk. Dogs have been waiting all day and I can’t let them down. There shouldn’t be too many people out today because of the cold and the Superbowl.

Tracy

Just wanted to drop in and say a quick hello. I have been sick as a dog. Yesterday I was in bed all day and today I am trying to rally, because let's face it, who likes to be sick? No big SuperBowl party today because of my illness, but we are watching it. I hope to feel better tomorrow and start my workouts with Cathe(and that is some high hoping there).

I congratulate Tracy for finishing the P90X round!! YAY!!! And I will try to check in with personals either tomorrow or Tuesday. Til then, let's bring it :).
