Hi all,

I get to start us off on another lovely Monday morning! Today is chest and back and abs. I'm hoping that I can recover quicker this week than I did last week. No legs today, because I've done them with weights or aerobics several days in a row.

BBL,

Tracy

Morning Tracy & All to follow!

Today is Back + Cardio
*For Back: PUB + SuperSets
*Cardio: Step Segments Only from Imax 2 & 3 (No Blasts as I worked Legs yesterday)

BBL with Sunday Personals!:7

Morning X'ers,

Well I didn't work out this weekend. I did something to my shoulder and it is sore, not in a good way. Started on Saturday, so I'm guessing I did something while doing yoga. Anyway I will not be doing any weights, and will get on the treadmill to see how that goes.

Have a great day!

Laurie

CL/PH3/WEEK3/Day1: Chest & Back, ARX

Week 11 of 13 begins today! Yay! I'm starting to get real antsy to get these 90 days finished, especially with all of you talking about Butts & Guts, LIC, and Drill Max. And TraciX - PUB and SuperSets together for a back workout sounds terrific. I want to play like you guys! Patience, patience.....

I never found time to post yesterday, but I did read. Just a quick comments on the topic of P90X Legs: I agree that they seem to have taken a whole different approach with the lower body than with the upper. It surprises me, because the way to burn calories is to use those very large lower body muscles. Cathe's fat-burning rotations are always heavy with lower body work. But I also count YogaX as a lower body workout, as well as PlyoX. YogaX has done great things for my leg endurance (hamstrings, quads, glutes, all of it) and general stamina.

I did XStretch last night before bed. Actually, I played it on the portable dvd player with the music off, while I watched the Grammy's on the tv. I know that workout so well by now that I was wishing I had just an ipod version that I could listen to. I'd probably do it more frequently if I could watch tv at the same time :) My flexibility has improved over these last 10 weeks. This stretch routine used to make me feel like rubber. Now I just feel nice, but not like I was overly tight to begin with.

Does anyone else find themselves talking along with Tony during various workouts now? There are a few lines here and there that I find myself muttering as he says them. I do that with some Cathe workouts, too ("I know you're tired...but jump HIGHER!").

Oh dear, time to go do the morning bus-stop routine. I will be doing Chest & Back today, and ARX, but I'm not sure what cardio I'll be doing. Something kind and fun. I spent all day yesterday, from morning 'til night, doing housework. I shovelled snow twice, and learned it takes 1 hour to clear our sidewalks and parking pad. I also did both neighbours' front walks on Saturday, and our neighbour did our front walk on Sunday. It snowed again last night...not sure who's going to get out there first today and clear the walks. Yesterday I also vaccuumed, mopped and polished all the hardwood, cleaned a bathroom and laundry room, did a week's worth of laundry, tidied up toys, and cooked a deeeelicious supper (basmati rice salad made with chicken breast, toasted pecans, cranberries, and mango chutney sauce).

Well, I've prattled on long enough. Have a great workout, and I'll BBL to chat a bit more personally.

Cheers,
Sandra

Good Monday morning all!! I just finished doing Gym Style Back, Shoulders and Biceps along with segment 1 of Coremax. Wow, I can actually lift heavier with Cathe now after the X and that is a great feeling. I do think though that next time I do this workout I am going to mix it up a little so that I can lift even heavier. But that won't be for two weeks since I am going to do the Master Series next week.

I am trying to figure out which cardio I want to do tomorrow. My lungs are still a littl sore so I can't do Imax 3. Maybe I will do Step Blast. Now that is a fun one.

Time to take a shower. BBL with personals and coffee.

Lea

Peeked at posts & want to commend all on being so diligent about getting workouts out of the way today! More personals in a bit as I am off to Academy to look for plate mates, additional BB plates etc... Feels SOOOO GOOD to be adding to the weight inventory!

Finished Back for today and actually went another mile...
PUB
SuperSets
CTX
I added in CTX because I just didnt feel worked long/hard enough for a 1 body part a day! I took longer breaks than Cathe throughout and finished in 35 minutes. Heart rate stays up real nicely when lifting heavier doesnt it? Added Perk!

Cardio will get done between now and 4pm.....

great morning gang....

Hi to all!

I just got done shoveling snow....I know you warm weather gals are jealous of the extra cardio I get! I am planning on doing Kick Max with leg conditioning drills this morning (hopefully!). I am feeling like I should have done a litle more for back yesterday since I am feeling no DOMS there this morning....But it was hard enough for me to workout at all yesterday...so I'll just take pride that I actually hit play! Legs feel good...pleasantly tired...I just had to go chase the dog out of DDs room...My pup like to eat crayons. I always know the next day what color she ate!

Traci...I notice my heart rate stayed up yesterday during back too! Have fun shopping for your weights...Let us know what you got! Have fun with step this afternoon.

Laurie...Sorry about your shoulder...Good luck with the treadmilll...Be careful!

Tracy...Have fun with chest and back today. I was laughing when I read your post about the leg blast on B&G...I am lucky to get through 45 minutes of legs...I'm not sure if I could make an extra 20 minutes! I am adding on leg conditioning drills in your honor today!

Sandra....It sounds like to me you got your cardio in for the week yesterday!! Between the house work and shoveling! Congrats on starting week 11...There is a light at the end of the tunnel!

Lea...I was able to lift heavier with Cathe yesterday too! Don't over stress yourself with cardio if your lungs are still feeling rough. You don't want a relapse!

Monica...Keeping you in my thoughts today...Let us know about your results! Sending good vibes your way.

Hi to all I missed...I'm sure I'll be back later this afternoon to see how everyone is....DD has ballet and tap this afternoon and we usually go out to dinner after class. Happy day to all!

Good morning Xers and ex-Xers!

Classic/Phase 3/Week 3/Day 1

Today was Chest and Back, tonite AbX with DH's workout. Chest and Back went VERY well for me, with strength and rep increases all over the board. I'm really pleased with my lat pulldowns too. I'm kind of sad this is the last time in the rotation that I get to do it. Love Tony in this one too.

I didn't get to post yesterday as I started my painting project on Saturday, bought paint and then painted the living room ceiling. Yesterday, I painted the walls and trim. Looks very nice. At one point, when I started applying the wall paint, I thought maybe it would be too light of a contrast to the white ceiling but after it dried a bit, I realized it was just what I wanted. It's a white ceiling and the white comes down the wall 8". The walls are a pale sage green. Now DH says we should get some new furniture, which I'm thrilled about. Today I was going to do the family room, but I still want to get a bike ride in as didn't get one yesterday (it was raining) so think I'll do the hallway instead. Much smaller room and I think I can finish it all in one day and still get the bike ride in.

Tracy, Chest & Back for you today too? Just goes to show how effective these strength workouts are that we still want to use them after doing 13 weeks.

Laurie, I'm so sorry you've done something to your shoulder. Please take it easy for a while. Maybe some ice for it too.

Sandra, I'm feeling the same way about wanting to do different workouts but like you, I will persevere AND grow stronger too. Sounds like you really got in the housework, snow shoveling and workouts this weekend. Thank goodness you are sooo fit. I know lots and lots of people that couldn't do even a 1/3 of that. I should have done XStretch yesterday, especially with all the painting, but instead watched the movie Serenity with my DH. We've really enjoyed Netflix and it keeps me off the computer so much as I don't care to watch the History Channel all the time like he does in the evenings. I mean, how many times do we have to see "the history of the M-16 rifle" or "famous dogfights over Iwa Jima"? Bring it good on Chest and Back today, it's the last time!

Lea, that is sooo exciting about your workout today and lifting heavier! I will definitely be doing the mix & match thing too. We are so fortunate that Cathe's DVD's have this option. Procrastinator me has not reviewed all of the Master Series yet. I'll be waiting to hear your reviews. Traci emailed me the sheets so I can write down my weights. Please take it easy on the cardio while you are recovering. I'm thinking Step Blast or SJP or RS. Oooh, Turbo Jam is fun too. Still haven't received the Tosca book yet. I'd better check my emails to see if theirs a link to shipment time or anything.

Traci, I just can't wait until I can do workouts like you are doing. You are soooo creative to put these all together. What kind of cardio will you be doing later? How many days of cardio do you have in your rotation or are you doing short cardio everyday?

Debra, are you an X girl now? Can't remember if you finished or where you are in the rotation. Snow shoveling, we haven't had any yet to speak of, but finally got some rain here in northeastern California.
Have a nice dinner tonite.

Got to go, will be checking back,

Jeanette

Jeanette...No, I am not a grad yet...I just threw in Kick Max as a sub for Kenpo today...I have 3 more weeks until the end...I have just been chomping at the bit to have a little more variety. Glad you enjoyed Chest and Back today...Have a fun ride, too. Congrats on your increases...I have C&B on the books for Wednesday, so I'll track myself then. Your wall colors sound great...And have fun picking out new furniture!

Hello everyone,

This evening I have Chest, Shoulders & Tris and ARX on the schedule. Hopefully I will also feel up to doing Cardio X. I am now in Week 10 and am going to do my best to stick with the program as closely as possible.

I have spent a good deal of my morning working on a journal to use that will help me keep on track. I created it in excel and will print it off and put it in a binder. I created two main sections: EXERCISE and NUTRITION.

Under exercise I have sub-sections for
1. Cardio (write in activity and time spent)
2. Yoga (type / DVD and time spent)
3. Weights -- place to write in name of execise, reps and weight

Under nutrition:
1. Check off for each 20oz glass of water, goal is five glasses.
2. Place to write in caffeinated beverages drank (goal is 2 or less)
3. Places to write in vitamins / supplements taken.
4. Meals eaten

I then put in an area to write in my general health and mood for the day. I want this to track migraines and my stomach problems.

Lastly, I have a section titled "Daily Goal Reached?" and I have to circle one of the following options: 100%, 90%, 80%, 70%, 60%, <50%

If anyone has any ideas or suggestions please let me know. I would also be willing to share if anyone wants me to e-mail it to them. It is an excel spreadsheet. It looks rather nice when I print it off. I am excited as this may help me stay more accountable to my goals, while also tracking my minor health problems.

So, I have a new goal to cut out or severly reduce my splenda intake. I didn't realize just how much I was eating. It is in everything I was eating -- yogurt, oatmeal, fudge pops. Has anyone had problems with eating splenda?

***** PERSONALS *******

** TRACY ** Have fun with Chest and Back today -- that one is really tough. That with ARX is more than enough for the day!

** LAURIE ** You are smart to nurse your shoulder and take it easy. You wouldn't want it to turn into a problem that would prohibit you from lifting for a longer period of time.

** SANDRA ** I agree -- doesn't all the talk of other workouts get you really antsy to be finished! I agree with you that the leg work in Yoga X as well as Legs & Back has increased my endurance. I just want more muscle though!!! I want it all don't I? When I started talking to Tony, I started using the Cues Only version. His chatter starts to bug me. I will turn off his volume tonight for sure.

** LEA ** OOOHHH - I'm jealous, can't wait to do my GS upper body DVDs. I also love Segment 1 Core Max -- especially the long hold plank at the end. Try to be easy on your lungs tomorrow with the cardio -- might not be a bad idea to do Cardio X?

** TRACI ** You go girl!! It sounds like you hit the back muscles really good. Are you going to be throwing in pull-ups occasionally? I never did them, I use the band. Don't have a pull-up bar.

** DEBRA ** Thanks for the good throughts -- I'll let you guys know when I get my test results. How much snow have you gotten? It is supposed to come our way tonight and tomorrow in St. Louis. That is so funny about your dog eating crayons and having colorful by-products. One time my dog ate a bunch of popcorn seeds and that was interesting.

** JEANETTE ** Congrats on the progress with Chest and Back. I find that workout to be really tough. Isn't this your last time doing it!!! I will be able to say that next week as well. How exciting that you may get some new furniture!!! That is so much fun to change things up in your home. Maybe I should do some painting, so my husband will suggest new furniture???

Sorry to anyone I missed! Everyone have a great day and keep chugging along!

Monica

Hi X'ers,

Traci – Wow! That is a lot of back work! If you aren’t fatigued after that you probably never will be.

Laurie – Sorry about the injury. It is such a fine line between pushing and staying injury free. Be careful, better safe than sorry. I learned that with my back.

Sandra – You will be finished soon; I know you will hang in there. I swear though after the recovery week it seemed like an eternity since I had really worked out.

Lea – It feels like such an accomplishment to lift heavier than Cathe. I just have the feeling that she probably lifts heavier than she does in the dvd to look the way she does.

Debra – You have to try the leg blast premix and thanks for doing the leg conditioning drills. They are so good, but remind me of floor work and I NEVER do them. Three more weeks? Why was I thinking that you were closer?

Jeanette – Congratulations on the progress with chest and back. I made up my own chest and back and added flys and bench and my chest was fried last week. I’m eager to see how I feel today.

Monica – The food journal/exercise journal sounds like a good idea. I did an elimination diet years ago to figure out what was triggering my mood swings etc. It was tough, but if you stick with it I’m sure you’ll see a pattern of something emerge. I don’t eat splenda. I can’t tolerate any artificial chemicals, so if I eat something sweet, it is the real thing. Hoping the test results are to your advantage.

Off to do my own chest and back routine and abs. I’m actually looking forward to it.

Tracy

Hi again,

Well, it's DONE! First workout to cross off the list for good! It's exciting to be in the final count-down stages! I did decently well. My PMS power mode is over, though, and I'm today is the first day of hormone adjustment. Day 4 of AF always has me feeling tired, mildly headachy, and really easily winded. Everything just feels harder. I'll feel this way for most of the week, then things will start to get back to "normal" for a bit. I'm also very puffy today. My wedding rings are really snug today, and they were about falling off last week. I think I'm dehydrated. I'm making an effort to drink drink drink water today and stay away from the high GI carbs. My waist is not looking very lean today! Ugh. I think I get PMS in reverse.

For cardio today I did the all-step premix from Cardio & Weights.

Laurie - I hope your shoulder feels better soon. Very smart idea to rest it.

Lea - woohoo on lifting heavier with Cathe! That's a great accomplishment! I always pick Step Blast as my first get-back-to-it workout. It starts off gentle enough, but has you working quite hard by the end. I love it. Enjoy!

TraciX - you sure worked your back to-DAY! Great work! Finally giving in and getting some PlateMates, huh? Great decision. I'm using mine extensively these days; don't know what I'd do without 'em. I almost bundled up Baby and ran off to the weight store this morning to get 35lb dumbells for my last go-round of Chest & Back. But I resisted. It's very exciting to make new purchases, though. Good luck carrying it all to the car, and then into the house!! Did DH survive his chilly weekend at the bay house?

Debra - I LOL about the dog and the crayons. Very funny! I caught my 16mth old yesterday eating Comet and washing it down with Windex. Not a pretty sight. That's what happens when you try to do housework with a baby around. Fortunately the Comet tasted so awful she didn't put much of it in her mouth, and she's not coordinated enough to actually squeeze the trigger on the Windex bottle. How close are you to finishing the X? Gotta be close by now?

Jeanette - I'm so excited to hear about your gains with Chest & Back! You've worked so hard on such a consistent basis. It's time to reap the rewards!! Thanks for the comment about most people only being able to do about 1/3 of what I did yseterday. That really made me feel proud; I hadn't thought of it that way.

Monica - wow, that's quite a journal you made! Very exciting! Have fun keeping track of all that information. I presume you also have a place to track your measurements? DH today told me he sees more definition in my legs. That surprises me, because I really hadn't thought there'd been much change there. I guess YogaX and Legs&Back have some visible effects for me, as well as internal.

Have a good day!
Sandra

Hi x'ers... The excitement for final weeks for you all is palpable!! I LOVE IT! Feel like I'm running 2 hours behind schedule today so quick post til I can get back to respond appropriately to all your inspirational posts!

Just finished Imax 2 & 3 Step Combos...GREAT 45 minute workout! Back is toasty from this morning... It looks like a lot on paper but actually its only 3 sets of 8 moves. Not that tough really!

I really am so excited about everyone finishing up in the next 2-3 weeks... WAY COOL! We all stuck together!!! WooHoo ^^^^^5! BBL thanks for all your uplifting posts today!

Good eveneing X'ers,

I just finished my back & chest workout and I really like it. I was able to increase my pushups and weights plus I did 8/5 chin ups and 3 close grip pullups. I was quite proud. It is so mental! Luckily I had the everything is a struggle week last week and today I was feeling rather chipper.

I ran out of the whey protien powder and had to get out the soy. It tastes aweful.

Traci - That is a good idea to combine all of those IMAX step combos. I'm always trying to find good solid medium intensity step workout. I get bored with my stuff in the winter because I don't have many other cardio options.

Sandra - I had to laugh last week when you were in the gung ho horomonal mode because I was exactly the opposite. I looked around the house last weekend and it was like who cares. I was obviously in the every motion is an effort mode. The talk about the kids and the soap made me remember how hard it was to get things done when the kids are small. That is an accomplishment in itself. My son drank liquid tylenol once and we had to give him the ippec (sp?) syrup. That was my first experience, and hopefully my last with projectile vomit.

Jeanette - I hope you got a ride in today.

Hi to all and sorry if I missed anyone.

Tracy

Hi to all...of course I'm here posting after the rest of you are done for the day....

Yes...I am 3 weeks away from being done...I have added a few days of cardio...and then I had a few sick days...so, 3 MORE WEEKS...but I am strong and I will prevail! I have probably done 80 days...but still 3 weeks away from being done!

Happy evening to all...I'm watching the Westminster Dog Show....I love seeing all the clean, happy, healthy dogs...Mine is runnig from window to window chasing a bunny outside right now....I don't think she's as smart as the dogs on TV....The ones on TV probably don't eat crayons either!

Good night!

Debra

Good evening,
Completed Cardio X, Chest, Shoulders & Triceps, and ARX this evening. I feel very tired. I am going to try really hard to get my butt up early tomorrow morning and do Plyo X, then hopefully do Cardio X after work. Didn't make any gains in my push-ups or weighted work today, but it could be because I did Cardio X first. I felt I got a good workout in though. Everyone have good night. Talk to you tomorrow.

Monica

Good evening,

Whew! What a day and I'm bushed! After my workout (Chest & Back), I got busy painting the hallway. In the middle of that, my mom came over to visit, which was nice. I finished the ceiling and headed out on my bike for a good ride (26 miles, with a 2 mile hill climb along the way). I was thrilled when I got back that my average speed overall was 17.2 mph, which for this time of year for me is good, considering the 2 mile bottom chain ring hill where you are going 7 mph for 2 miles. Just hope I have enough energy for PlyoX tomorrow morning and then a Spinerval Garage Boys session on Wednesday. Somehow, I'll do it. When I got back from the ride, I ate dinner and then finished painting the walls in the hall. After that, I worked DH on the Bowflex with Chest, Back and Abs and while he did his abs, I put in AbX and did that. Anyway, full day today. I'm glad I'm going back to work to rest tomorrow. Hope I sleep good tonite.

Debra, hoping you do well with Chest and Back on Wednesday. It'll be the last time so give it your all! Got to mention, I didn't do the Heavy Pants today. I strained my back (got a hitch in my getalong) last time I did it, so only did one round of it today. It's one that I probably need to lighten up with. It's definitely not my favorite. Lawnmowers, no problem. Had a discussion with DH re: new furniture. He would like to have our old furniture reupholstered as it's really nice and sturdy. I've got to research how much that's going to cost. I think we'll still go looking for some new lamps and decorations though. Debra, we love watching the dog shows on TV. DH loves it when he sees a German Shorthair like our female.

Monica, your plan sounds like you put lots of thought into it. I just have not sat down yet to write anything down and I know I need to at least for DH's program. Splenda, hmmmm.... I use it but am trying to not use so much. I finally gave up my fat free french vanilla creamer and am using 1/2 & 1/2 with Stevia packets and vanilla flavoring (need some real vanilla extract, just using up my imitation stuff). I'm hoping Tosca Reno's new book that I ordered has some good ideas for clean eating. I know others say that Splenda is not good for us, but I'm not sure why. I don't know about starting the painting to get new furniture, now DH wants to have the old stuff reupholstered. Not as much thrill in that for sure.

Tracy, so you did your own Chest & Back. I haven't done a bench press or fly since starting P90X. Bet I'll be hurtin for certain. Glad you are feeling so well this week. I had actual huge bursts of energy on my bike today, felt like Rocky!!

Sandra, I sympathize with the puffiness. I swear sometimes I wake up in the morning, put on my workout clothes, admire my abs and muscles and think wow. Fast forward to time to go to bed and look in the mirror. Different person, puffy arms, abs, bigger butt, water weight in the legs. Wish I could get a handle on this fluctuation. So frustrating. The bright side of this for us is that WE ARE IN GREAT SHAPE, though I don't have the leanness that I want, but I do have lots of power and most of the time lots of energy. I'm sure you do too. Let me in on the secret to less puffiness when you find it.

Traci, great idea on Imax2 and Imax3 step combos only. I don't own Imax3 (due to lots of impact) but that makes it more tempting as more of a steady state cardio. Yep, I have 3 more weeks, couldn't have gotten this far without this check in for darned sure and you made it happen!

I'd better start heading for bed, didn't realize it was so late.

Jeanette
