Good morning Xers!
Yup, Traci keeps good track of things around here! I did YogaX today, too. I liked it very much. The first 45 minutes gave me a good physical challenge, so I feel like it was worth putting on the workout clothes. The second half was some very nice stretching. My only comment when I was done was that there was very little shoulder/tricep/arm stretching. I've done some yoga that turns your arms to noodles, in a good way. I missed that with this workout. However, my lower body feels very lovely. And yes, years of yoga workouts made this one flow quite easily. If you're completely unfamiliar with yoga, I can see how this would quickly become a frustrating and annoying workout. Not to mention, how surprised one might feel at how intensely you work!
My left bicep is especially sore today from Shoulders & Arms yesterday. I keep kneading it out; I hope I can manage a few modified pull ups in tomorrow's Legs & Back workout.
Traci - I feel your frustration and worry about your lack of progress. Given all of the guidelines I read, I would say that you are definitely overtraining. HOWEVER, I also believe that you know and understand your body better than anyone else. I personally am skeptical of those who tell me (frequently) that if I do less cardio, eat more good quality food, and lift heavy weights, I will actually reduce my body fat. Obviously, this is the exact formula used in P90X. I've decided to just plug my nose and swallow it down for the next 90 days, just to see if "they" are right - 'cause what if they are?! How exciting would that be to *finally* lose this body fat, and see all the muscle I've been working to build for so long? I've given the old formula of "eat less, increase cardio, do endurance weight training" for a very, very long time, and I've yet to get the results I want. Since I agree that the definition of stupid is to "keep doing the same thing, while expecting different results", it's definitely time for me to change things up significantly. So, I'm doing P90X as written - because they promise me that if I do that, it will work. If, at the end of 90 days (what's 90 days in an entire lifetime?) I'm not where I want to be, then I'll just pick back up with my old routine of cardio and weight training. No biggie. At least I tried. And who knows? Maybe in 90 days I'll be able to brag that I can do a pull-up or two. I don't know if all my rambling helped you or not, but hopefully there's something in there that can help you resolve your angst.
Fox2 - looks like SA is a favourite for many. I haven't done Legs and Back yet; I think Cathe's set the bar pretty high for good quality leg workouts.
Jeanette - You're up at 3am to workout?
I thought Traci was the only one crazy like that ;-)
Laurie - I have to say that the 3 sports drills at the end were the most awkward for me. I've barely done any team sports, and it took me some time to figure out what the heck he was doing LOL! I hope I come to like Plyo X as much as you do. I personally prefer Cathe's IMAXes; the choreography and music add a fun factor such that I don't feel like I'm just doing a list of drills. But maybe after a time or two, the fun factor will improve? I can see myself quickly becoming bored with the sequence (how come he didn't add a few premixes LOL).
Lea - Welcome to the group!! DH is doing this with you? I love that! My DH appears to be seriously curious about what the heck I'm doing. I hope the position I was in this morning during YogaX when he popped his head around the door didn't scare him off! Someone else in this group (can't remember who?) has her 2 sons doing it with her. I'm so impressed by that.
Buffy - here's some alert vibes coming your way )))))))))). Thank's for the info on the band/bar. My sitch is that I have to use my pull-up bar in my ensuite bathroom door (in my bedroom), but all my weights (and lovely workout area) are in the basement. So, to do the three workouts that require pull-ups, I have to first cart all my equipment from the basement to my bedroom, and then somehow do the workout in the very limited space available. And do it quietly, because the baby is napping just down the hall. Very annoying. If I buy the bands, I can rig them up in the basement, and all my problems are solved; except I can't practice pull ups. It's every Modern Mother's dilemma, isn't it? LOL!!
I'm on Day Four of the eating plan (phase 1), and yesterday things had improved alot. My hunger has abated, and I'm feeling quite content. The carb cravings have diminished a lot. I'm also drinking a ton of water (and peeing a ton) due to the increased protein. Here's hoping that it's all doing me some good. Like Jeanette, my stomach bloat has decreased, and I can see my four-pack (now I'm going for six
).
Well, time to go do other stuff. Have a great day!
