Worried about FIL-aneurysm

Apparently my father in-law has an aortic aneurysm. He's fine right now and is currently waiting at the Dr. office to see the cardiac surgeon. Sounds like he may have surgery in the morning. He's 78, but in excellent condition! He had a heart attack I think 9 years ago, but has done great since then. He still rides horses everyday!

I'm just worried, not sure what to expect. My DH sounds fine on the phone, but I'm sure is very worried. I'll keep you all posted. Anyone else have experience with this kind of thing?

Yes Edie - Last year my SO's dad had the same thing done - He was 76 at the time. His was as big as a grapefruit. When we saw him after the operation he didn't look good at all, but he improved everyday. He had a 10 inch cut with the staples. He recovered very quickly and is now as good as new. His was very serious and he did fine. After you and he get through the first week, you will see improvement. Let us know how he did and you and your DH take care,

No words of wisdom, just chiming in to say that your father-in-law and DH will both be in my prayers. (as will you).

Hi Edie. I have no experience with this, but I will be praying for your FIL and his family. Have faith. He will be ok! Lots of hugs and good vibes headed your way!

Oh my, Edie. It's very good that they discovered it! Often thses things go undetected until there is a major event. I'll keep your FIL in my prayers (and you too). Please keep us posted.

So sorry Edie...I hope everything works out okay. You and your family will be in my thoughts and prayers. Keep us posted.

My father had an abdominal aortic aneurysm which for him was unoperable because his health overall was so bad. Prior to finding out they couldn't do surgery, they did tell us that surgery was usually successful altho the recovery proces was quite long and hard. I don't know if this is the same type of aneurysm. A co-worker's 85 year old mom had the surgery and came through with flying colors. She was also healthy like your FIL.

Thanks for all the info and well wishes! I will probably know more tonight when I get home from work. I'm glad that the hospitals here are known for their excellent cardiovascular departments.
