Workouts with colds???

Hi Cathe,
Just wondering, what's your advice on exercise with a cold. I have been unfortunate enough to contract one from either my kids or patients. Anyway, it started Thursday, I have worked out Saturday and Sunday, but not at my tops. Thanks!

As far as I know, as long as you are not running a fever or the cold has not settled in your lungs it is OK. I know myself, sometimes it makes me feel better, kind of sweat it out of yourself. Just listen to your body, I have times when I was better just taking a couple of days rest. Hopes this helps and hope you are feeling better.

Susan-not Cathe either, but ironically the latest edition of Runner's World just featured an article about this very question. Basically, they say it's TYPICALLY ok to exercise if your symptoms are above the neck...running nose, teary eyes, a cough. But, as Alicia said, if it settles in your chest and/or lungs, you should rest.

Bottom line, of course, is to listen to your body.

Hi not Cathe either, but I just got over a virus recently myself and although most of the symptoms were above the neck it was really strange, it left me feeling very fatigued. I did have a slight tightness in the chest area, not too bad but the fatigue left me wanting to rest it out. I think within a 7 day period I worked out maybe twice. Legs on one day and more total body one day. So just go with how your body is feeling.

I am not sure if the weird fatigued syndrome I have today is from my cold or that my kids haven't adjusted to the time change. 4:30 this morning was their emergance time. Very painful!
