Afternoon all,
Carole, 14miles!!! At a 105F!!!!
It's almost 5PM overhere and a soaring 100F. I did my long run at 10AM, but given the temperature when I started (about 85F) I decided today wasn't about distance at all, today was about running at least 90 minutes but no more than 1:45hr or when my water would run out. Whichever came first. I took 6 little bottles with me, each about 7oz I think. Am not so good at converting from metric to american. I know 8 fluid oz is about 200ml and each bottle is about 175ml.
It was tough today, ladies!!But when the going gets tough.....
The heat was enormous and most of my route I had to run in the sun. And you know my morning runs are usually between 14-18C (55-65F). So I took it slow, despite that my HR was up to 160-165. I realised about 2K out, that I'd forgotten my sun screen:-( I have been running sleeveless since April, so I already have a nice tan, and I didn't get a sun burn... I finished my run at 1:41hrs. And almost finished all my water. I was surprised about all those runners I met along the way who didn't carry even one bottle. Unbelievable.
At one point, when I thought my brain was about to start boiling, I remembered this Richard Attenborough documentary about the arctic. I tried visualising the blueish tint of icebergs and gletchers. Feeling the icy polar wind. Imagining polar bears lurking in the corn fields
Polar foxes running after rabbits
Do they have rabbits in the arctic??
Well, I'm about to start dinner.... a nice cool salad would go down well.
Have a great day.
Dutchie
