Good morning ladies...well, so far the only thing sore from my run yesterday is my lower back...:(...could be TOTM also. Today I am pulling out one I have not done for awhile..ME then maybe some light cardio and then StretchX. Annette, I might even get to lay in the sun today!! Enjoy the workouts...:)...Carole

Hi all,

Yesterday was a rest day (had other things to do:) ). Today I had a 12K run planned but Rover and I accidently ran 13.5K. How come? Cause apparently running affects my brain and I can't add up the K's properly:)

I am pretty much back on my training schedule for the 10mile race I'm doing in September.

Runners, what would be best... work my weekend long runs up to the 16.5K (=10miles) and do that every weekend or go over and do like 18+K on the weekend until race day? I will be adding in speedwork like Fartleks and tempo runs once I have got the mileage in. Running more than the required 10 miles would boost my confidence that I could do it, but would I maybe be doing too much and get too tired before race day? What would work best in your experience?

Hello all

Dutchie, there are many things that you can do. If you'd go longer than 10m that would definitely give you a lot of confidence. Also, you can insert a little speedwork into your long run too, like a few striders at the and, say pick up the pace for a hundred meter or so then do that a few times during the last 1-2 miles. That would teach your legs to run faster even when they are already tired. IMHO it is not that necessery to run the 10m at every weekend. You can do longer one weekend and do shorter the other weekend but maybe faster.
Be careful though to not increase the distance a lot and do too much speedwork at the same time. I always loved tempo runs. My favorite big time butt kicker was the long-tempo run -- finish the long run with a few miles @ tempo pace at the end. Nothing will give you more stamina then that.
I learned a lot form the book "Jack Daniles: Running Formula". I don't know if you have it, but it is a basic book to have for racing. Best of luck to you!

Carole excuse my ignorance but what is TOTM? ME is my long time favorite, btw.

I did only cardio today, 40 min different cardios @ a nice intensity, hr 155-162.
Then took my daughter to soccer camp:( for 5 long days she will be away.....

Carole you go and enjoy the sun. Today is a rest day for me unless I change my mind, dh took us out to Ryan's after church and I tried to be a good girl and not overeat my carbs. I think I did pretty well.

Have a good one!!:7

Mari...no ignorance...:)..Time Of The Month!! Dutchie, Mari had some great suggestions and I agree. One rule of thumb used to be to run a weekly total of double the distance run. So, for example if you were training for an 18K race don't run over 36K for your weekly mileage total. I usually went by this before marathon training as it was all different for marathons!!

Mari, I bet you will miss your daughter and I hope she has fun at soccer camp...ME was wonderful although my legs were a bit tired...:)...

hello ladies! Today I took 2-1 hour back-to-back step classes at my gym. I had a great time this morning and then I came home ad took a power nap. Off for a long walk in the woods.

I actually did something I haven't done in quite a loooonnnng time.......... I took a good old fashion WALK!!! I walked for 47 min. which was about 3 miles or so, not sure. It has been sooo long since I have clocked the walk in the truck that I forgot exactly. But anyway I walked.
