for a friend probably 200 pds. i am no personal trainer though i have learned alot from this forum. she had anle surgery but her doctor said she could start using the treadmill.i was thinking of having her do the bike for just 15 min to start with then leg curls and then total body not doing as many sets. is cathe too difficult even with light weight or do something like p90x that works 1 set chest, shoulder, tri, back.bi then repeat

My BFF was just over 200 and really out of shape when I started training her. I started her on a full body circuit of really short easy cardio spurts mixed in with simple light weight exercises for about 20 reps each.

For cardio I had her doing step ups, step up knee ups and things like that for only 1 minute at a time and it was tough for her.

For weights she lifting 3 pound dumbbells mostly and doing bicep curls, tricep kickbacks, squats, lunges, chest press/fly....You know-the real basic exercises plus basic cruches and oblique crunches.

I am happy/proud to say that she is now about 40-50 pounds lighter and can lift *MUCH* heavier weights and her cardio endurance has improved immensely!

HTH!:)

She worked out 2-3 times per week to start with. She only did the work outs I created for her. Today we've dropped the cardio from my routines as she walks on her own now for cardio. She is doing a pyramid routine for weight work 2x per week and loves it. She does her cardio on different days either 1 or 2x per week.

Her diet was awful. She usually ate once a day and it was some unhealthy dinner eaten late at night. That being said, it wasn't hard to improve on her diet.

I simply got her eating several times a day. I stressed eating 3 meals a day ATLEAST and especially breakfast which she NEVER ate and I encouraged healthier snacks, etc. Her diet is far from clean. I don't expect that from her. It's not her thing. She is eating Lean Cuisines for dinner lots of times to help with fat and portion control. She snacks on granolas bar often. I think she eats something small like a piece of fruit or a yogurt for breakfast. I'm not really sure what lunch is for her. She also liked to eat soup in the colder months. ANYTHING is better then the diet she left behind!

The original circuit I created for her was set up similarly to Cathe's bootcamp. I had her do 1 cardio, 1 upper, 1 lower and 1 ab exercise. Wash rinse and repeat for several rounds. I think her work out had 8 rounds in it. Being so out of shape, she took lots of breaks in between exercises. That was fine at the time. She no longer needs to do that now.

HTH!
