WORKOUT Monday 08/23

Cathlete
Morning grils,

School's started today so I was up at 6AM to get my workout in before taking my youngest to school.

Did Legs&Glutes, did go better than a few days ago:)

Jumped in the shower and then the worst thing happened: I wanted to take my son no.2 to school, it being his first day and I couldn't find my bicycle keys anywhere x( x( And with my car in the shop I couldn't take him!! He had to go by himself (he did have his own keys). He is 12 going on 13 but it's the first day of school! It's the day you meet the teacher, see which last years clasmates are in his new class, etc. I feel so bad;(

I have been looking for the keys for the past half hour, still haven't found them. The bike is in the shed, locked, so the keys must be here somewhere:(

Hope your day starts better than mine.

Sorry about your no 2 son Dutchie. I bet you did feel bad...I do hope you find those keys! Glad Legs & Glutes went better for you too.

I am finally on my last week of P90X! A recovery week....but I'll do some arm work today, shoulders, bicep and tricep and then Yoga. I am not too sore from my long run yesterday which is good, but I certainly don't want to work my legs!!! Enjoy the day ladies....:)...Carole

Good morning everyone

Sorry about your son Dutchie but you shouldn't feel bad there was nothing you could do. Good luck finding the keys.

Well my finger is killing me - I can't wait to get to work to x-ray it to see if I broke it. I slept with ice on it last night and it is still purple, swollen and stiff;( (As I mentioned in yesterday's post - which I did late last night - I was playing volleyball and I jammed it so my husband popped it back in place but it is still killing me so I don't know if I broke it) I refuse to go to the doctor - my husband scratched his cornea playing basketball on July 4 and we were in the emergency room for no more than 15 minutes and it was $454 !}(

Today was IMAX 2 - figure I better stick to just cardio.

Well, hope work goes well today - it is going to be hard to clean teeth without a pinky finger to help hold my instruments. And of course its on my dominant hand!

Talk to you later, Wendy

More bad news.

Been to my PT. He advises not to do any running until Sunday. No Imax2 or PlyoX. He can't really pinpoint the problem as I don't only have a pain behind my kneecap, but the back of my knee is also painful at times. So he thinks there is more than one thing going on. He agrees that tumbling over Rover was the initial start of these big problems and Rover's pulling definitely adds unwanted stress to the knees. He emphasised that while running, it's always one leg (and one knee) at a time that has to deal with Rover's pulling.

On a positive note, he likes the exercises in Legs&Glutes if I do them without any weights and P90X Legs but have to stop if I feel any stress on my knees.

Sunday I can ease into a 5K and because my race is only three weeks away by then, he advises to run every other day adding 1K with every run and to carefully listen to the signals my knees give. And if it's no good I have to cancel the race or get myself an even worse injury.

I don't like his advice (he actually first adviced not to run for a whole month, but when he realised I was training for a race he changed his mind though emphasising I could make matters worse). But I guess he's taking a risk letting me try to run after a one week pause, so I have to try it his way.

What do you runners think about trying to build up again after a week without running? You think I can still get ready for the 10mile race? Or should I let my team know now I can't do it and they have to find a replacement?

I hate Mondaysx( x(

Oh Dutchie, your Monday is not going well at all. I hope your son had a good day at school despite the bad start for you and not getting to go with him. I hope you don't overdo it with your knee and are able to do your run. Take is easy don't go and do more damage than is already done. I hope also that you have found your keys, I hate losing keys you can't do anything til they are found.

I did Pyramids Upper Body Chest and Back only (I am going to do the 2 days per body part one strength one endurance rotation I made up) then I did a 51 min. premix off of Kick,Punch and Crunch and did the abs without the ball.:) :+ I will report after I complete this rotation of mine on how it went and if I see any results of any kind.

Have a great day!!:7

Hi Dutchie....I actually agree with your PT...because if matters get worse it could mean surgery! I have been so lucky with my knees. Yes...take the week off and maybe some bikeriding?? I always used my Nordic track when I was injured because it was non-impact. Take it very easy with the leg exercises and stop if you feel any pain. I'm not sure about the 10 mile race...:(...how soon do you have to let your team know? I'd wait til Sunday and see how the knee feels. Did your PT recommend icing your knee? I would about 15-20 min 3 times a day....I do hope your knee gets better....:)...Carole

Hi Carole,

Yes, the PT told me to keep icing my knee (back and front) at least 3xday for no more than 15minutes.

He felt sorry for me cause he knew how much I want to run and how careful I have been. Not sure if I told this before but my right leg is genetically not quite build properly (very flat bottom of knee cap where normal people have a "ridge" and very shallow end of the femur so my right knee has always been a little unstable and I've always been prone to tracking problems whatever sport I choose to do). So the PT told me months and months ago that I may be able to run if I progressed slowly and carefully but somewhere was a limit to what my right knee could take.

I thought making it to 5K was a small miracle and making it to 10K without any real problems was a major victory for me. Then I fell down the stairs aggrevating both knees and now this thing with Rover has turned my left knee into a major problem. It's really disappointing cause I've tried so hard to progress slowly and doing pretty well in the past, but I guess I'm way better off than Paula Radcliffe.

Thanks for your support.

Hi Annette,

Haven't found my keys but my oldest son reminded me I have a spare key for the bike. Guess it took a younger mind than mine to solve the problem for the time being. I have to find the other one, or my bike isn't eligible for insurance (theft and 3rd-party damage) anymore.
