Workout Log for week of August 17th

melanalyus

Cathlete
Hey gang! I finished my Saturday workout a little earlier today, so I thought I'd go ahead and put the post up. On Thursday I think I felt the baby kick for the first time. It lasted for about 20 minutes, but I haven't felt it since. I can't wait until he/she begins kicking again. It sure beats the 'pinching' they did last week!
I am pretty happy with my workouts this week. I did feel weak & used lighter weights than normal. My legs seemed heavier than normal this week too. Not sure why. One more week to the 1/2 way mark (20 wks)!!! Yahoo! This will be a huge mile marker for me. I'm also waiting to wear maternity clothes until then (I'm incrediably stubborn). Here we go:

Sun: CTX Kickbox
Mon: off
Tue: *Rhythmic Step + Abs on stability ball
Wed: Cardio & Weights
Thurs: off
Fri: PUB
Sat: IMAX2 + Power Hour abs

*Rhythmic Step is so much fun when your not nauseated!!!

I hope everyone had a great week & I look forward to hearing from ya'll!

I haven't posted my workout log or much else in this forum in a couple of months, but I'm excited because I'm getting so close to the end that I thought I'd get back on here.

Sunday- rest
Monday- Totally Hot Cardio
Tuesday- Still Jumpin' (with absolutely NO jumping!)
Wednesday- Muscle Endurance
Thursday- Energy Sprint- first 55 min.
Friday- too lazy!
Saturday- Circuit Max

Wow, Circuit Max used to be a walk in the park. It is so hard now!

Exercising has been fairly (but not totally) easy, all things considered (i.e.- my pregnant body). However, on Thursday, right when I entered 38 weeks, I have found that the desire to not exercise is very strong! My babe seemed to just then have lodged in my pelvis and most movements in general are quite awkward and uncomfortable.

But, I am in general, so excited for my first baby! I also want to share that I am doing hypnobirthing, and am very excited to share that experience after the baby comes.

Emily
baby boy due September 4th!

Hi Emily! Your workout schedule looks incredible! YOu must be super fit! I can't imagine even working out at 38 weeks, let alone tackling Circuit Max (which is always challenging for me & never a 'walk in the park'). Your doing wonderful! Yeah!
I must ask, what is 'hypnobirthing'? Are you going to be hypnotized during labor?
September 4th is sooooooooo close! :)

Hi Emily,
Our due dates are 4 days apart--I'm due the 8th and have never been earlyx( .

I bought Circuit Max in July with a bunch of other Cathe vids that I have only watched somewhat wistfully, because there is no way I could do them pregnant. I am quite impressed. I can't wait to try them though.

And I agree the the desire to exercise is not very strong. In fact now I have a date with the stationary bike and I am stalling:p . Once I get started, I should be okay.

I,too, have never heard of hypnobirthing and you have piqued my curiosity.

Take care,
Maggie
due 2 weeks and 1 day

Hi Melanie,
I love it when the babies move. I can't believe that you are almost halfway there. I guess time is marching on for everyone, not just me:D .

It's great that you aren't in maternity clothes yet. I am always in them before the first trimester is outx( . Right now my belly is so big, it just sticks out right in front. No side to side stuff. I stare at my profile with awe. It's comical. No wonder everyone thinks I am having twins.

I will post my workout week tomorrow, because I workout thurs-tues w/wednesdays off. I just had to visit the board early to get inspired to finish today's workout. I have lifted and soon I plan to bike, but I reaaaaly don't feeel like it:p .

2 weeks and 1 day

HI all! Last week was much better for me! I am still very tired, and working a second job isn't helping that at all. I hope to quit soon. It's just too much for me I think now that I'm pregnant.

Sun. Off
Mon. Sweat Express with Kari Anderson
Tues. Hi Low Heaven
Wed. 8 min warm up on Stationary bike then my own lower body weight session
Thurs. Kathy Smith FAt Burning Breakthrough
Fri. off
Sat. off

I have loaned out all of my Cathe vids to a friend so they can use them for the week, but am getting them back tonight, thank goodness! I just don't have any weight videos other than Cathe, so I have been at a bit of a loss this past week, but I'm trying to make the best of it!
You are all doing great, once again! You are a great source for me to turn to when I need a boost right before I work out, thank you!

Melanie - thanks for the compliment. You, however, are doing tough videos yourself and deserve the same congratulations!

To answer your other question, hypnobirthing is a method developed by Marie Mongan based upon "the work of Dr. Grantly Dick-Read, an English obstetrician, who first forwarded the concept of natural birthing in the 1920s. The method teaches you that in the absence of fear and tension, severe pain does not have to be an accompaniment of labor." (www.hypnobirthing.com)

Check our the website if you are interested - the method is very cool. My husband is learning, as my birth companion, to put me into deep relaxation. This is the state I will be in during the birthing process. You also learn to release all of your fears associated with childbirth. Getting rid of your fears will help your body to avoid creating a pain response. Anyway, I have learned interesting things from it, including that you don't have to "push" you baby out. He/she will come out due to involuntary (not voluntary) muscle contractions. My hypnobirthing instructor told us that this has been proven due to women in comas giving birth. So hypnobirthing teaches you to breath you baby out in long, slow, relaxing breaths in and out.

My husband thought, what kind of quack stuff is this, when I first told he what we were going to do! But now he is totally a willing participant and can bring me into deep relaxation.

Maggie- With all of your new videos, you have a lot to look forward to after you have your baby. I haven't been able to try Interval Max 2 or much of Boot Camp, though they have been sitting on my shelf since they came out. I am excited to be able to do them after my baby comes. Also, Cathe's new videos will probably be released shortly before I am ready to get back into exercising, so that will be motivating. Good luck! A stationary bike sounds a lot gentler to my general pelvic region right now than bouncing around doing aerobics. Wish I had one.

emily

Emily--I can't wait to try all the new videos, so that is motivating. Actually the stationary bike is causing me to have a lot of Braxton-Hicks and 20 minutes is my utter limit right now:p.

Here is this weeks workout week:
Thurs 21--LL(no abs)
Fri 22--CTX Upper Body
Sat 23--C and W*
Sun 24--PS CST, 20 min Stationary bike
Today--PS SLA (no floor work or abs), 20 min stationary bike
Tomorrow--plan to do PS BBA (no abs), 20 min stationary bike
Wednesday--REST

*Instead of upper body weights for an extremely modified C&W, I did lots of squats, plie squats, and other leg stuff with no weight. It was fun without being awful and grueling. I was not going to C&W anymore while pregnant, but it is so fun and I am having so much trouble getting motivated...this leg thing seemed to work nicely.

Kathy--I hope that it will be possible for you to quit your 2nd job. That sounds so tiring. Keep us posted.

Maggie
2 weeks to go, hopefully not longer:7

Hi,
Its been a busy week for me I was out of town last weekend and then this past weekend, but did bring videos. I have also just moved into new house, vcr/dvd and computer aren't hooked up yet so I'm borrowing my in laws computer and vcr and exercising there. This is where I moved from. Well, I'll try to remember my workouts.

Sunday-off-travel day
Monday-Firm strength
Tues-Firm Cardio
Wed. Gay gasper-Step and Strike
Thurs-Firm-Standing Legs
Friday-Firm-upper body(wanted to do more but boy was it hot that day)
Sat-Firm-Not So tough Aerobics and Firm-Cardio Sculpt Blaster

Oh yea, I am excited since I was reunited with all my videos that were living in storage since March and they look like they all survived.

Due 9/21/03

Congrats shopaholic on moving into your new home! Just in the nick of time. Your going to be so busy unpacking, you'll be holding your new baby in your hands before you know it. It's amazing to me that you're able to keep up with your exercising throughout this hectic time. I'm in awe! I think I will do a Gay Gasper video today. ;)

Kathy, I will pray that God will open up new opportunities for you, so you will be able to quit your 2nd job. I'm exhausted after working my one job! It'll be so nice for you to able to spend more time with your new baby too.

I'm here, I'm here, better late than never right???

Mon - PS all upperbody with abs
Tues - PLB (and I was very sore!!)
Wed - IMAX II with Upperbody lifting in between sets (1-5 and 10)
Thurs - rested my legs were dying for some reason
Friday - biked with my son
Saturday - rested

I know too many rest days, I have been lacking motivation again, I've got to get some transitional videos cause I hate cutting intensity, but I just can't keep up with all of Cathe all the time. I did CTX upperbody this morning and did push ups on my knees (I hate admitting this) and they were HARD. Major whimpiness going on here. I'm mentally having to reprogram that it's okay to modify the pajeebers out of some of Cathe's workouts.

Glad your all doing great!!

Briee

Briee, you are doing soooooooo well my friend! YOu are way to hard on yourself. Did you forget that you were 5 months pregnant, or what?!!? Many non-pregnant women wouldn't be able to pull of this last week of workouts that you did. I have a question about your Wednesday workout. You did an interval, then paused your vid & did upper body work on your own, then went back to the next interval? That sounds a lot like Cathe's TERMINATOR cd. Do you have it?
I know all about 'dying legs' my legs were so heavy this past week, and again this week. I'm not sure why. Maybe it's the extra 10 pounds I'm carrying around?!?! BTW, how many days did you go skiing?!? ;)

Melanie, you're right, I AM hard on myself, I know I have a problem with this and when I miss a workout, I'm LITERALLY a bear the entire day!! No, I don't have the terminator, but a few days ago Aquajock posted about doing Squats and other leg work in between the intervals in IMAX II and I tried it a loved it, on days when I can't even think about doing LL, so I tried this with upper body and I loved that too. Only problem was, I shouldn't have done IMAX II after PLB, my legs were way too sore and just got worse after IMAX II (I was thinking this would kind of "loosen them up").

Regarding waterskiing...we go whenever we can, we have a little ski boat and a lake not too far away and if it's hot, we head for the lake. It's really not a big deal to ski while pregnant, landing in water is VERY soft!! :) :) :) :).

Now for my last question. I am in my ****6th***** month of pregnancy which I began August 17th if you go by months. When do you determine what month you are at when people ask you how far along you are? I've been saying that I'm 6 months, am I really 5 months? You'd think I would have a handle on this being baby number 6. Same thing with weeks, I was entering my 25th week on Wednesday, so am I 25 weeks pregnant or not until the end of the week. I know this is ridiculous, but being the perfectionist I am (only in some areas) this is driving me nuts!

Briee (and thanks for the encouragement Melanie!!)

Briee, I go by the amount of weeks to determine months. I am now 36 weeks , so I am 9 months pregnant. The confusing part is pregnancy really is 10 months.

How many months to equate with weeks?

I don't know how to translate weeks into months. I have been using weeks & leaving it at that. I do know that us pregnant women are VERY sensitive about our due dates & how far a long we are. We don't want to be underestimated on time, do we Briee? ;) I figure that I am almost 4.5 months (since I'm 19 weeks along & almost half way there). Briee, your due date is roughly a month before mine, so I just subtracted a month and said 5 months. Should I be dividing 19 by 4 and telling people that I am about 5 months along? I don't know. If only there were 4 weeks in EVERY month (instead of the occasional 5 week month) there wouldn't be so much confusion in our lives!!!! ;)

RE: How many months to equate with weeks?

Okay Melanie, so when people ask how far along you are, you tell them you are 4 months, correct? Since I'm in the sixth month I've been saying 6 months (which really means that I'm 5 months and a few weeks). Now, if you are telling them you are 4 months pregnant than you will never really be 9 months pregnant ever because when you are 2 weeks from delivery you will be saying that you are 8 months pregnant, not nine, because you have not yet reached the ninth month. :7 :7 :7 Now, I hope you are laughing here cause I have strained my brain to really determine a correct answer, and I'm still not sure what it is!!!

At least you can get a laugh out of what is probably my warped logic in determining dates. I just cracked up the other day when I was at the eye doctor, (his wife is pregnant). I asked when she was due and I got this long drawn out answer. Her real due date is October 10th, but he tried to explain that because the last two weeks really don't count and that actually she is in the ninth month when she begins it and they want to do a c section a week before, and since ovulation most like occurred a few days early and also the first two weeks she really isn't even pregnant......she decided she was due like around September 4th or so. I nearly fell out of the chair laughing.....sounds like she is sick and tired of being pregnant and wants to get this baby out!!!! I sound just like this in the 8 month of pregnancy (which might really be the 7th month :D :D :D )

Oh....for the record...I did boot camp yesterday morning and DID the sequential power kicks. I was just posting that I really don't like this workout, but decided I needed to revisit it JUST TO BE SURE that I really don't like it.......yep, I still don't like it!!! You can tell that I was feeling a tad perkier yesterday!!!

RE: How many months to equate with weeks?

Okay Briee. I tell people that I am 19 1/2 weeks pregnant. I let THEM figure out the months. However, a couple of times I've told people that I"m 5 months pregnant & they always compliment on how well I look & that I"m not even showing yet. Maybe I should stick with the month thing, that way I'll get lots of complements!

I haven't done Boot Camp in a long time. I'm indifferent to it. It's difficult to jump from cardio to weight/abs so quickly. Maybe I'll do it again next week too. The sequential power kicks don't scare me, it's the terminators b/c I KNOW at this point I'm not as agile as I was 19 1/2 weeks ago!

This week has been so tough for me exercise wise. My legs are sore all the time & I"m tired too. I'm going to squeeze in a workout before work today, but tomorrow I work a 10.5hr shift and will be too exhausted to exercise. I'll be lucky to get 3 days in this week. :(

RE: How many months to equate with weeks?

Melanie, you are so encouraging. I feel like the last month I've barely managed to get in 3-4 workouts a week (in a good week). I felt really good today and did a heavy upperbody workout so I should be good and sore tomorrow (which makes me really happy!!:7 :7 :7 ).

I feel so many "swings" through this pregnancy. One day (out of maybe 7 it seems) I feel great and the next I feel fat and heavy and zapped. Today (your gonna laugh at this one) was one of those outstanding days and I did my heavy weight work and looked at the clock and it was about 7:45 a.m. when I was finishing, I just felt great so I called upstairs to my son and daughter and asked them if they wanted to go to Cashton (a nearby town) and run the 5K that I thought was happening this morning. My dh said are you crazy you always get shin splints and sore knees and you haven't even built up to this. BUT I felt great so I convinced them and drank some gatorade and headed off. NOBODY was in town (like the usual 5K crowd that we have) and I looked at the flyer and realized that it's next Saturday. Oh well. I was mostly bummed because I felt so good this morning and the chance of that happening next week and VERY SLIM. We'll see!!

Briee (insanity runs really high when I'm pregnant)

RE: How many months to equate with weeks?

Briee, I cannot imagine running a 5K right now. My husband would probably strangle me. He has forbidden me from running until the the baby is born. As you might remember, I ran a 10K very early in the pregnancy. It was incredibily difficult for me. I had some spotting right around the same time. YOu can barely blame dh for being so protective.

That is too funny though, just deciding at the spur moment to run a 5K. Wow! You'd be super dooper sore the next day. That's for sure!

BTW, is Briee short for something? Where you named after someone? I really like your name. Maybe we'll name our baby after you. ;)
