WORKOUT Friday 08/20

Dutchie42

Cathlete
Afternoon everyone,

I had planned a 6K run for today. We've had terrible rain showers since early morning. So I already decided not to run. The I realised I had to take Rover for a walk. So if I walk the dog in the pouring rain, I might as well run. And it was wonderful... truly. My shoes are soaking wet, but they'll dry. And I feel so good:) Did PUB abs.

When I started running I had a terrible sharp pain behind my left knee cap. But after 5 minutes of ouch and slow&easy running the pain went away totally.

I also figured out a major factor in my knee problems. ROVERx( I hate to say this, but when we run he tends to suddenly pull me side ways, or he notices something up head and leaps forward. You can imagine how it puts a major stress on my knees. So I will not take him running again until after race day and I will make an appointment with my PT to get his advice on my knee. Like to get to the finish line without injuries:)

BTW I've decided not to run the 1/2 marathon in October. I want to build a solid mileage base until February and then start my training schedule for the local 1/2 marathon early May. I think that is not only a wise thing to do, but it will make my very first 1/2 marathon a much more enjoyable experience.

Have a great day all,

Dutchie

Good morning Dutchie....I have had some great runs in the rain also....:)...unless the winds pick up...Might be a good idea to not take Rover running until after the race and see if he is a factor in your knee problem. You can always just take him for a walk at another time.

I think it's a smart decision not to do the half marathon until next year. Building a strong base is very important IMO. Something I am working towards also as it has almost been a year since I injured my achilles!! I have always thought half marathons were alot of fun...:)

For me today is P90X Legs & Back and then a 5 mile run. I am hoping the weather cools off like it is supposed to....enjoy the day....:)...Carole

You bet I will.....:)....I have watched as much as I could so far. I about cried last night when our USA Carly won the all-around in gymnastics!!!! So cool....:)...and the swimming has been great. I watch alot of the track & feild...:)...Carole

Me too. It's in the background when I'm studying... not good for my focus:) I was surprised to see a Dutchman in the kayaking this morning. We don't have any white waters, you know. He ended up 8th.

Ofcourse the swimming was great, our Pieter van de Hoogeband defended his title and won again:) I am always amazed that a country as small as ours produces enough great atheletes to win a couple of medals: judo (both men and women), ladies badminton, swimming, biking. We still have some athletes in the race for a medal. Too bad we don't have any great runners anymore.

Good morning - I did not stay up late enough to finish watching the all-around - last I saw I think she was in 6th place - WOW! I also love watching the swimming. Did you see the USA's Piersall (Spelling?)-wow he was 2 seconds ahead of the 2nd place finisher!

Anyway, last night I felt energetic and did Step Blast so I did not want all cardio or intensity today so I did High Step Circuit.

Dutchie- I agree that maybe Rover will need to stay home for a while or even just go out for walks instead of runs - you definitely don't want to risk further injury. Anyway, just take care of yourself:)

Well I'll check in later - its off to work......

Hi Dutchie, I am glad that you have figured out the problem with your knees, Rover just needs walks I guess and not runs or at least not with you.

I did Step and Intervals today and all I can say is OH MY!!!  I have never struggled that much with a workout the first time out until today. I ended up everywhere but where Cathe was on her step. That one will take some practice.:+ I also did the abs off of Power Circuits and previewed it, NOT a good idea?!?!! That one will also be a killer for me. I also did biceps off of Pyramid Upper Body which on the way down I had to lower my weight even more. On the way up I couldn't do all the reps. :( I guess all in all I tried to kill myself with my workouts today. Definetely though that Steps and Intervals was a KILLER!!!}( :p

Now I am scared to try Power Circuits tomorrow!! After viewing it today, maybe previewing is not a good idea afterall.LOL!!

Have a great day!!:7 :) :D

Hello All

Dutchie, it is a smart idea. You'll have a much nicer experience if you go well prepared with enough mileage. Plus, the knee also... poor Rover, now what about HIS exercise?:)

BC for me today, with a twist. I found myself subbing certain moves w/ P90X moves! Like instead of one warm row I did "steam engine" etc. It was fun. Still very little time for me today, but next week should be much better.

I wish this nasty cold would be gone.....:-(

PS: I've just got Karen Voight "Circuit Training" DVD today. I'll report soon!:)

I have Karen Voight's Cardio Strength Circuit Training also and I really like it although I haven't done it lately since I'm in a total Cathe phase right now. :) Let me know what you think - I think it is a great workout! Talk to you all tomorrow
