Work Muscle Until Failure?

When lifting weights (either heavy or light with a million reps) is it a good goal to lift until you can't lift anymore?

Hi,
Im obviously not Cathe, but I read last week in Muscle & Fitness that it is good to work until failure sometimes, but only on the last set of each exercise, no more.
