Winsor Pilates- Advanced Burn DVD-yeow!

Hi Everyone!

Wow, I did this DVD last night, and I have to say that I'm definitely sore in my back and abs. I've been doing Cathe workouts for a few years now so I'm defintely surprised. I guess that it is good to really switch things up once in a while!

Frankly, I wasn't expecting it to be tough...I really like the Winsor pilates DVD's for stretching out after a Cathe workout, so I figured this DVD would be much of the same. Was I ever wrong! I love a challenge! Yay!

I was thinking about it also. I've been doing just pilates and yoga for several weeks now because of a bad bout of bronchitis that I can't seem to fully get over. I have to say that Cathe's ab work really improved my pilates, but I think my abs are close to the flattest they've ever been now, just with the last three weeks of almost daily pilates.

There are two maximum burn videos. One is 20 minutes, the other is 50. I think Jen was referring to the 50 minutes one, based on reviews I've seen on Collagevideo.com.

Jen, doggone it....}( I had been thinking of getting this DVD and you just pushed me over the edge....;-)

While I'm falling in mid-air...quick....did you get both the 20 and the 50 min ones or just the 50 min one. My credit card is jumping at me..... to start typing in the numbers at Collage.....LOL

about the infomercial.....

I have a question for Winsor fans: Why are these workouts being promoted as a fat burning wonder?

I have done matwork for years, and love pilates but it is not a fat burning workout. You're prone! Doubt if my heartrate ever rises to triple digets except during "swimming". I saw the infomercial yesterday. The focus was on the fat burning & weight loss benefits. I don't get it.

And Daisy Fuentes is a runner. She never reveals that in the infomercial.

Please enlighten me!

Debra

Hello All! : )

Sorry I didn't get back quickly! : ) I have the 50 minute DVD and I really like it... To answer to the response about the infomercial, I don't really see it as fat-burning, either, but I just need a change from serious cardio with plyo's, running, and weight lifting...it's much more fast-paced then the 20 minute DVDs (which kind of bore me, actually) I just love the stretching that's incorporated into the moves on the DVD. I recommend it as an add-on to a Cathe workout or for an "active" rest day. Just my 2 cents! :)

Wanda! : ) Just the 50 minute DVD! And, hey, I heard back from Stephanie yesterday from T. Long Productions. Thank you so much for all of your help / information regarding this. Apparently, there were issues with their website/server last week. Needless to say, my credit card was in my hot little hands right after I received word that I should try to order again!}(

I bought the pre-order DVDs and the Core Foundations. I'm definitely look forwarding to getting them. In my psychotic spree of video purchases lately, I also bought a used copy of Fitprime Strong Bear. I heard good reviews for the most part, with some comments about strange moves. I don't care, I need to shake things up because I'm getting bored! :p

Thanks again for all of your help~

Jen

Thanks for posting this. I've been on the fence for about a week now if I should buy it or not. I just ordered it from collage.

I'm thinking that just about anything that burns a calorie (in oxygen) can be called "fat burning" but i think the real reason is that if you use the word "fat burning" you'll sell many more videos that if you didn't include it. I'm not a pilates guy, but i do like the ab series in pilates and it really does make my stomach flat(er).

RE: about the infomercial.....

Debra,

I have the original Winsor Pilates set. With it comes suggestions for using the tapes for weight loss, muscle toning and maintenance. Along with that, however, she also recommends 30-60 minutes of cardio 5 or 6 days a week, which is not discussed on the infomercial.

I got it from collage (winsor Advanced Burn - 50 minute) and tried it 3 days ago and I am STILL SORE! Especially around my rib cage area. This workout ROCKS!!! I cannot believe how sore I am.

A definite new favorite for me! I'm going to do this one 3 times a week and incorporate it with Cathe workouts. WOW!!

RE: about the infomercial.....

Debra-
I saw the infomercial last night and had the same reaction. But there was an eating plan brochure that I guess made it not QUITE deceptive. In any event, I ignored all the weight loss claims but still thought the workouts looked interesting. Can anyone who has the orignal workouts give me your opinion?

I'll also look back at prior topics on this.

Since I've never really done Pilates before, I was thinking of just getting the Winsor set they sell on TV. Looks like for $39.95 you get the following:

1. Basics - which probably just sets you up with the right form
2. 20 min. workout
3. Accelerated Body Sculpting Video - 50 mins.
4. Power Sculpting With Resistance Video - which comes with a resistance band

Has anyone ever tried these? I wonder how the Advanced Burn differs from nos. 3 & 4?

I ordered mine last week after reading about it on the video forum, can't wait to get it, ordered the 50 minute maximum burn, this is gonna be good............. Rhonda:7

I just previewed them on Collage and they all look great. Can't believe the Maximum Burn 50 min. DVD that Dani ordered is only $14.95! They are all so affordable. But still don't know whether to start with the 4-workout set or not. So confusing.

Hi Danielle!

I decided to punish myself again and did this dvd yesterday! }(
Again, my sides are pretty sore! It's tough, isn't it? I think that the hardest move for me is putting your legs in a jack-knife position over your head without the assistance of your hands to help you get there. Oh my gosh, I was shaking at one point to even get my legs back there...and then I started cracking up laughing and all was lost! :7

Take care!
Jen

Results so far!!!

I wanted to post my results so far after doing this one 3 times a week for about 4 weeks. I have been throwing in Cathe Timesaver cardios and some of her other cardios along with this workout 3 times a week! I've lost 5 lbs and 2.25 inches around my waist!!! I didn't measure my legs but my jeans are looser now!!

I'm loving this routine!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jen,

I just now saw your post! I find the moves getting easier and easier. The hardest move for me is the Boomarang at the end! I'm all good until the last one. I can barely make it!

Hi Nancy & Everyone Else,

Some comments on Windsor Pilates...

Like Wayne said, I think they promote the series as super fat-burning because it is exactly what most people want to hear! However, the workouts are good and can burn fat, just not as much as you would burn by doing some Cathe workouts, IMHO.

The DVD's are very reasonably priced, however, the cases are like cheapo cardboard and there are no chapters! In fact, you can't even jump ahead to the menu until all of the FBI warnings & whatnot finish. (I only have the Maximum Burn Series on DVD, so I'm not sure what the details are for the basic series.)

All of that aside, Mari's a pretty good instructor & you will learn proper technique through her cues. The workouts are great for active recovery days after a grueling Cathe strength workout!

The 20 min original video is very basic. The Advanced video is still somewhat basic but slightly faster paced and includes more exercises.

The 20 min Maximum Burn seems like a jump from the Advanced- much faster paced. The Advanced Maximum Burn, as you all have said, is a toughie. Fast, many "new" exercises incorporated.

If I were an absolute beginner to Pilates, I'd start with the basic set. You could probably do okay if you started with the Maximum Burn series, but you wouldn't get all the benefits of knowing proper technique.

Just my opinions :)
