Wii Fit--your thoughts?

I'll admit it: I like Wii Fit Hula Hoop! It's fun, a quick heart-rate booster, and works the abs. Plus, I can't do more than thirty seconds with a real hula-hoop.

Seriously though, I'm very pleased that my 11-year-old daughter is so in to Wii Fit. She does something every day, and it's fun for her. But she already likes yoga and running. We're neck-and-neck on the exercises, and it's a fun competition.

For me, it's a fun way to check in. But I find myself getting too sucked into the activities, and compromising my "real" workout time. I do like that you can add your outside exercise to the graph. I stink at the balance games, however--except for the one where you get the balls into the holes. My stationary balance is excellent, but I guess my coordination needs major help. No surprise there!

My 13-year-old son needs a workout more, but the balance stuff isn't much for him. The games are fun, but it's not much exercise. I'm very intrigued about the EA Sports Active that is supposed to come out in May. I'm hoping that it will be something that he will get into.

Any thoughts from anyone?

I sold mine back to Game Stop because I thought it was pretty lame. The Hula Hoop and soccer were fun, and watching my BF do the hula hoop was probably one of the funniest things I've ever seen...but...I didn't see it as a real workout and traded it in for Star Wars Force Unleashed and Lego Batman.

My 9 yo DD loves it and does something everyday also. She loves the step. I play it with her, but don't feel the least bit worked out. The boxing is fun. DH and I have a ski jump competition going on to see who can go farther and it has helped my balance. Only the very unfit would feel worked out IMO. I see it as a game, not fitness tool.

I like it for fun and entertainment purposes. I only substitute it for a real workout when I really, really, really don't want to do anything. The boxing and hula hoop get your heart rate up and I am usually sore after the boxing. I personally think the balance games are important for...well, balance. We need that too.

I like the balance games - I feel they have helped my core quite a bit, although admittedly they're not really challenging in the sweaty/sore workout sense. I sometimes will do it on my rest days just for an easy fun thing to do (keep the habit going :))

My DS (he's a bit chubby) likes it and actually gets a pretty decent workout out of it. He does the step aerobics (which I find BOOOORRRRIIINNNGG after Cathe) and likes the LONG runs and long boxing sessions. He'll layer many of these together to rack up an hour or more of aerobics.

I've heard My Fitness Coach is pretty good, though - will have to check it out.

Edited to add that I think the hula hoop is a blast! I love watching my DH do it - too funny!
