Why should I do something different?

Hi all,

I am considering a different rotation after Thanksgiving, but I am wondering if I need it. I really like the results I've been getting, but I keep hearing muscle confusion, variation, etc. Do you necessarily NEED to mix things up on principle?

Here's what I do (keep in mind I have the attention span of a flea, so really don't work out more than 30 minutes at a time). I've been doing this rotation more or less since September - and recently added big-girl pushups everyday (up to 12!!). I would like to lose another 5-7 pounds and firm up a little more:

Sun: Leaner Legs
Mon: GHAS (with heavier weights and a slower tempo)
Tue: IMAX
Wed: GHAS
Thurs: Extreme Intervals or Intense Moves
Fri: GHAS/PS floorwork

Thanks! Rose

Hi, Rose! IMHO, if you like the rotation that you're doing right now, go ahead and keep doing it until you want something different. There's no magic to any of this, and consistent with my opinion that your body is the best one to tell you what it needs / wants for nutrition, your body is also the best one to tell you when it wants / needs something different as an exercise program.

From my own personal experience, I think variety means that my body does not adapt to one routine - I can feel my muscles getting bored from doing the same thing. And when I switch to another form of exercise I feel sore all over again. Also I don't think your muscles really develop unless they are worked thoroughly and they way to do that is to vary your program

I also think you should do whatever you feel is right for your body. If you're seeing improvements in strength and definition, then keep doing what you're doing. I'm experiencing this myself right now. I did the Slow & Heavy for 3 weeks. I then took one week off and started it up again. I've been debating on staying with the Slow & Heavy or changing to Pure Strength now, but I think I'm going to stay with the Slow & Heavy. I am definitely seeing improvements as I'm upping my poundage with this rotation and I'm definitely seeing some muscle growth. As long as I see improvements and can focus on the slow lifting method, I think I'm going to stick with it as I'm really enjoying it. Maybe the one week off was what I needed to get focused again as I think I'm hooked on this series right now.

I have been doing Cathe's strength videos for some time and I keep increasing my weights to keep me challenged, but yesterday I did The Greated Workout by KV and used 5lbs dumbbells and you what it was hard. I thought with all the heavy lifting I would be able to do the upper body and leg portions without stopping, but I couldn't finish all the reps in this video. Maybe I am not as strong as I thought I was.

Hi Yen!

GWW gets me everytime!!! It is TOUGH, and like you, I have increased my weights substantially with Cathe's weight vids. The floorwork on GWW is a killer! I think you're as strong as you think you are, the upper body moves really quickly.:D

Yen:

I had heard about this video that Voight keeps a brisk pace, high reps and that may have something to do with it.

Others, less charitable, say she literally throws those weights around, so please watch yourself and if you can't keep up, don't. At least don't get injured beause then you won't be able to do Cathe for a while either and then you'll be distraught!!

I thought I was hip to the lingo, but I'm stumped! Could you please tell me what GHAS is? It's bugging me that I can't figure it out!

Thanks,

Hello Debs,

Do you have this video and what is your opinion on it? Is it only upper body workout?

I am looking for another light weight workout similar to KV's GWW so any reccommendations much appreciated. The reason is that I like for days when I am low on energy or not feeling well (like I do at the moment) and don't feeling like lugging heavy weights around.

RE: GHAS

Hi Yen! To be honest,I have not done the tape YET. I keep saying I am going to give it a try but I just keep coming back for more Cathe! Would you like to borrow it? If so, E-mail me your address and I will be glad to send it out.
