Why Omron lies!!!

I have gone over my food journals in the past...slight variation, if any. I eat healthy. I don't have cheat weeks. I just try not to cheat period. If I want chocolate..protein bar, shake, etc. I am a good girly! LOL! Workouts....more intense lately...so why is body fat slightly up? Omron has been driving me to drink...LITERALLY! I am drinking more, sweating more. I never kept track of my drinking, but I go thru bottled water (hey, did you think it was something else)? like there is no tomorrow. Proof....

had a pint of blood taken yesterday so I am probably not as hydrated as usual and body fat reads 14.5% this morning. Was 15.7% yesterday!!! WTH???? Friggin' Omron...I am surprised I haven't taken my hammer to it yet!!!!! Maybe I should start using the other method...pinching, etc?

Charlotte, I'm in the same boat as you. I don't get whats going on. My weight has fluctuated for the last three weeks, and considerable amounts (2-3 lbs in one week). I haven't swayed from my clean eating (I do have one cheat day but I'm thinking of getting rid of that) and I've been drinking a gallon of water a day. This morning I was down 2.5 pounds but my fat hasn't budged. Its really discouraging. My workouts are also more intense lately. Wish I knew what to tell you!

You are gonna have to ditch that thing! Its gonna drive you insane.
Somedays mine is up as well, but I just assume I pinched to much skin this time.I wouldn't get to bothered by it if i were you.Not to mentiont that I only check it about once a month. If you went from 14-20% then maybe you could pull your hair out! LOL But not for 1%

Lori:)

Debbie,

It is muscle! My weight has been up too. Fluctuating as well between 116-119, and body fat sticks around the high 15% mark. You don't know what to tell me??? You just did!!! Looks like we are both water logged to death!!! LOL! We are so hydrated that the Omron keeps picking this up and showing it as fat, when it is not. I mean, come on...this has been driving me nuts for months now. I am thinking, what am I doing that is different (in a bad way)...>NOTHING! If anything, I am working out harder and being anal with my eating. I have increased my weights significantly on a few moves and so I got to be building muscle along with everything else...nothing else makes sense. IT IS MUSCLE, GIRL!!!! Now we can relax?????? LOL

Charlotte~~

Debbie,

About the drinking, I know I drink over a gallon on most days. I bring in a pitcher of water into the workout room, and it is gone in just 1 hour and I just continually drink thereafter like this all day. So just workouts alone, I would say I go thru 2 pitchers of water, not to mention what I drink the rest of the day. DH has gotten mad at me because I go thru propel and green tea too much!

Lori,

I am stubborn as crap, I won't ditch that Omron. It keeps me crazy, and I think I like it! LOL!}( :p It amuses me too much!!!!

Charlotte, I just pm'd you. It could be muscle, my arms are looking big lately. Same with my chest and my legs are looking pretty good too. I don't get why I'm at 18.2% bf. I use the Accu Measure, I wish I had something more accurate.

I was thinking of buying one, but now not. Ya know, I am not chained to the scales and I don't want to be chained to a BF machine either. I'm not saying it doesn't work for others to measure to tweak their routines, etc. But just doesn't sound like it's for me. Good luck with yours :)

Catherine

catherine, I am not chained to my BF monitor but I do step on the scale a couple of times a week. You probably won't use it to much, unless you get into the habit of it.I bought mine just so I could round about figure out where I was, as far as BF was concerned. Now I know and I am happy with that.
Lori:)

Oh I didn't mean to insinuate that anyone was chained to their BF monitor-only that I didn't want to be chained to one. I used to be chained to my HR monitor, so I know what would happen if I got a BF monitor. I am sure they are good for many to track their progress, just not me. Although I would love to know what my BF is. So I hope I didn't offend anyone.

Catherine :)

No response other than I totally, completely feel your pain. :)

The wonderful side of my struggle with Tanita is that it forced me to really pay attention. As a result, I feel probably the best I've felt in my adult life. And it's not like I usually felt horrible, but I now feel awesome. I think that I was in pretty good shape, but my "Tanita trials" kind of got me tweaking some things.

You look great, you feel great, step on the thing once a week, and laugh heartily. ;)

I use my BF monitor and scale with regularity. I find it keeps on the straight and narrow. It "reminds" me to eat right and work out when I see the #s in front of my face regardless of what they mean or don't mean. That is my take. I have learned not to let it bug me. I know my weight and BF will fluctuate and that's fine. I just make sure that I am not heading too far in the wrong direction to where it would indicate I am doing something wrong....:)

Catherine,
I didn't take offense to anything you said either...I hope I didn't come across like I did. I just wanted to let you know that I own both, I still go by the scale.I play with it and I know what my average BF is but thats it.I just wanted to tell you, just b/c you step on the scale alot, doesn't mean you would use to omron everyday.
Lori:)

Lori, no, your post didn't come off as taking offense. I guess I reread my post and thought I came across the wrong way.

;)
Catherine

My Tanita body fat scale is VERY accurate for measuring weight. I love it for that reason. It isn't worth a hoot for measuring body fat -- but it does measure hydration VERY effectively. Unfortunately, that NOT what it's supposed to measure. Please don't base anything on the bodyfat measurements. They're just not accurate. I've never spoken to anyone with a bodyfat scale who felt their scale gave correct BF measurements.

Shari

I would love to measure 15-18% body fat. I had the pinching meathod done and the hand held thing, they both put me higher than you guys.
