WHY ME?

I knew something bad was going to happen. I knew that as soon as I increased my endurance and saved up all the money for the trip, and got completely psyched up that something like this would happen. Today during Step Blast, I misstepped right off of the Step and badly sprained my ankle. Why couldn't I have done this three weeks later? Ugh..... Does anyone know how to heal a ankle rather quickly?

First of all make sure you get it checked out.
Then with your doctor's go ahead, use RICE:

Rest Ice Compression Elevation

Best of luck for a speedy recovery;-)

Strap it up in bandages that you have previously soaked in cold water. When the bandage dries, re-wet it and re-wrap. Elevate foot. Continue. Stay of foot as much as poss' first day. After couple of days of this, try a nice warm bath to soak the foot and ligamnets, etc, and try putting some weight on your foot. You will know when the moment is right. A sprained ankle takes a week to heal, to the extent that you can walk on it properly. It may be a few days after that that you can safely perform cardio on it, depends upon degree of sprain. Test it out when you feel ready.

Good luck,

Clare

Oh no :( Ouch and double ouch. I would take every precaution and not overdo it. Definitely do the RICE method and take it easy until the trip.

Christi I hope you will have a fast recovery. I hope you will be OK to go to the road trip.

Thanks I hope I can too. Now I just heard on the news NWA mechanics are trying to strike which just happens to be the airline I'm flying on. I've been resting it too keeping it elevated and icing it when I can make it to the ice. Ugh.....I feel so frustrated.

Oh, man can I relate to this one!

Two weeks ago I stepped on a stone in the parking lot and rolled my ankle. Next day, I couldn't walk on it. I did RICE religiously and put NO WEIGHT on it for 24 hours. It happened to me on a Thursday night and by Saturday and was almost back to 100%. Maybe I was just really lucky. The weird thing is it hurt right away after I hurt it but I could still walk. In fact, I did a leg workout that night. Then when I went to bed it started hurting and within an hour was throbbing so I got up and iced it right away.

Hope your ankle heals as quickly as mine did! I'm going on the road trip too so I know how devastated you must feel.

Take care,
Sue
