Why is my 1RM not challenging me?

Hi there

I started STS today and did all my 1RM beforehand. While doing disc 1, I found that I could have gone much heavier! Did anyone else find this? I wish Cathy would say what weight she was using, I always use it as a guide for what weight to use in other videos such as Gymstyle and Slow and Heavy.

For Mesocycle 1, can I not just use a weight that I know will take me to failure? Then increase by 5% from there?
