... eh-hem. I don't. BUT! I am hoping to, so please tell me why YOU love it and maybe I will find some inspiration!

1. Maximum workout for the time invested
2. eliminates boredom factor
3. great to break through a plateau
4. some people claim that less total days of cardio can be done if interval trainning is utilized regularly
5. runners report being better race results if some of their workouts are regularly interval in nature

Nothing has helped more to increase my aerobic capacity. That's why I love interval training, at least once a week.;)

I agree with these. Basically "more bang for the buck," and the ability to get good results with fewer total days of cardio.

I agree with the responses too. Just a quick question since we're on the subject. How often per week can you do interval training? And how much spacing between interval work? Is it still just once or twice a week?

TIA ~ Dallas

I thought it was not more than twice a week. I think that's what Cathe said at the beginning of Imax1.... I think, it's been a while.
Heather

I just did that one this morning and that's what she said. But when did Imax come out? I'll have to go look. Wasn't sure if that has changed since then.

Thanks Heather.:)

Personally I'm not crazy about interval training. My limited understanding is that it works better for low fat diets than low carb. I'm on low carb & I see much better results with straight aerobic workouts rather than anaerobic.

I do some form of cardio 5-6 days a week, usually 2 of them are interval. I do them to alleviate my boredom from the straight cardio workouts, but in all honesty I do lose get much better results with aerobic exercise.

Interval training, like the Imaxes burn more calories and it keeps burning for hours after the workout is done, but the best benefit is that it helps realease growth homones and it keeps you young.

So Laura are you saying that staying in the lower part of your target heart rate burns more fat? I always thought that was true and until I read your post I had forgot about this. Now I wonder the benefits of going anerobic...

Terri

I don't feel that I'm in the lower part of my target heart rate (although I don't measure it). Just the opposite in fact--I feel that I'm in the upper part of my heart rate for a longer amount of time, since you don't get the breaks & lower your heart rate between intervals in the IMAXs.

When you do low intensity aerobics, like walking or any other activity that keeps your heart rate at 65% or below your MHR, more of your calories are going to come from fat. When you do higher intensity aerobics like running, spin or Cathe you are going to burn more calories from glycogen, however you burn more overall calories the higher intensity workout you do, and you have to burn 3500 calories to equal one pound of fat so doing more higher intensity workouts will get you there faster, though it is a recommended to include lower intensity into your regimen, as well.

There are so many benefits of doing interval training because you do burn more calories when you do interval training that when you do anything else and it enhances your over performance, so don't stop, Terri. :)

Logos, where did you hear that it keeps you young? That is intersting, I have never heard that before.

Laura I did not mean to imply you were at low end. I worded what I meant wrong. Basically I was asking what Missy answered. By the way Laura you look great!

Missy thanks for the explanation and I don't plan to stop :) I do get confused about what burns fat, most calories etc and you explained it very well. :)

Terri

I love it because I can do it.

Really!

Each interval workout reminds me of where I was before, compared to where I am now,(fitness-wise) and I usually end up laughing out loud with for joy of it.:+
