Why do they do that? Step tape question...

This may be silly, but I'm just curious... so I thought I would ask the Cathe experts. I only have four Cathe tapes with step in them (Step Blast, IMAX2, SJP, and Cardio and Weights), and I haven't tried step by any other instructor. Anyway... I've noticed that when Cathe and crew do something like a knee lift or leg lift with one leg, the other leg that's on the step also bounces a little (toes stay the step, but the heel leaves it for a second). Is that just to make it more fun and bouncy, or is there some other reason for it?

Hope I explained that well enough and thanks! :)

I think what you're seeing is a power move or a lift. Cathe likes to add height to the moves to increase the intensity of the workout. You can always stick to the basic moves if these don't suit you.

Hmmm... I'm not sure what you're describing, but I don't think it is a power move, because you say the toes stay on the step and just the heel lifts. I haven't noticed this, actually, and I'll have to go look to see what you are referring to.

I think they're probably so used to doing the higher impact jumps and hops, and they know that they're coming, so they're just in the mind set of moving "up" off the step rather than staying grounded. Also, if these moves later turn into some kind of turning move, they may be preparing to unweight their leg to turn.

I think it's because they have rhythm & I DON'T! J/K! I think it is just part of feeling the music and being dance-coordinated.

I do that myself sometimes--usually when I have a little extra energy & am really enjoying myself & getting into the workout.
