Why can't I make a decision on Chalean Extreme?

I bought it. I previewed it. I called today (the end of my 30 days) and got a return authorization number (from the usual brain dead representative that BB is so famous for). I still can't decide.

WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME!?

I just received it

Hi,

Are you getting STS too? Maybe you are just overwhelmed with workout DVD's. It happens to me sometimes. I did not pre order STS and may in the future order one meso cycle but I doubt that I will get the whole program. Sometimes it is best to go with your instinct and if you feel you should return it then that may be best for you.

I just received CLX yesterday and did Burn 1 last night. I then watched Burn 2 and 3, read the book and started listening to the CD. I like the short workouts and feel that the program is well put together. It's a little early to tell but I think I will be keeping this.

Christine - what do you like about it, what don't you like about it? Make a list.

I happen to love the program, but not everyone does. Do what is good for you.

I love the program.
Do you have a week to give the Burn phase a try? I really believe previewing doesn't do this program justice.

I just finished Burn phase, and have moved into Push. I am SORE!!

I think CLX is different from STS so I have room in my life for both:)

I plan to finish Push phase, skip the lean phase, and begin STS.
After I finish STS, I'm going back to CLX.
I have all winter, spring, and summer workouts figured out.

I am thinking the same thing - I will do the first two months of CLX then jump into STS. Although with Cathe doing STS - I might move things around to be part of that as well.... I am really enjoying CLX and have seen some good changes in my lower body in particular.

I didn't want the series for the longest time but now, after hearing so many great things about it, I am just about dying to order it! With STS coming and my marathon training about to start though I am trying to hold off....Not sure how long I will last though!:p

I'd also like to be sure that they've solved the scratched discs problem as I don't want the hassle of having to wait for the replacements.

I personally think I'm going to love CLX but if I hadn't decided I wanted it after having it for 30 days I would have returned it. I mean, you can always purchase it again and it's not worth being out the money if you aren't going to use it.

I am loving CLX! I just started this week. Have done Burn 1, Burn Intervals and Burn Challenge, Abs Extreme and the other abs. I was pleasantly surprised actually, and honestly, its wonderful NOT having to plug along for an hour of endless reps, and still get a honest to goodness workout. Who knew?;) I come from a hardcore bodybuilding background, so its always been "balls to the wall" for me, and this is such a refreshing change right now.

Wendy - I am right there with you!

I see that you've previewed the workouts, but have you done any yet or listened to the motivation cd? The workouts are surprisingly harder than they look, even the 27 min. cardio Burn it Off. The bowler lunge in Burn 2 gets my glutes every week! If you haven't done any, try Burn 2 and Burn Intervals and see what you think. Listen to the cd too, especially track 8 which deals w/ the causes of mindless eating. Good luck!

Johanah,

I have listened to the cd at least 6 times. I repeat tracks 5-8. Track 3 was pretty great too. Chalene talks about the little voice inside your head and not allowing it to tell you negative things. Replace the negative with positive messages.
It's just a fantastic program. :D
Chalene in the kitchen was pretty great too. I've made the turkey chili 3 times. My family loves it!

Cynthia,
You are SO RIGHT about track 3 and the "little voice" and the importance of positive messages! While it's all things we may have heard/read before, it really helps to hear it again, doesn't it?? I plan to make the turkey chili this weekend. I've made about a dozen recipes so far and every one has been a hit! Gotta love tasty healthy food...

Since this has to do with decisions...

Anybody reading this who has done P90X and is doing the CLX now? I have STS on the way (hopefully soon :D) and have forever considered P90X but for some reason, never went for it. Now, the CLX. Any thoughts on this? To me, the P90X may be similar to STS and CLX completely different.

*Christine* good luck with your decision...when I can't make up my mind, I have learned to just let it go. If I really wanted whatever it is, I would know it. I use that same strategy when going through my closet - if I ponder it for longer than a second or two, out it goes!

I'm like meowracer, I play little tricks and ask myself questions to see whether I really want something or not. If I see something in a store I can usually tell immediately if it's "me" or not. I believe in trusting instincts. If yours was to return it, for whatever reason compelled you to get a return authorization, then send it back and stop second guessing yourself. There's only so much humming and haahing a person can do before mental constipation sets in. I think you might be there on this issue!

I ask myself things like: "will this make me a happier person?" "does this fit into my budget?" "if I didn't get it, can I think of 10 things I would rather use the money for?" and these questions usually sort it out for me.

If I walk away from the item and am still pining for it 3 days later, I go back and get it. If I walk away and don't think about it much again, or I find other clothes/books/workouts that appeal to me more, I forget it. Money well saved.

Remember: there will always be plenty of other workouts, better workouts, better fitness tools coming around the corner. You can afford to send this back and feel happy that you are not missing out. After all, because of all the fitness talk on these boards, a lot of people end up ordering stuff and buying it simply because of the drive and urge to be on the bandwagon and not miss out. If most of us had to wait a month before being allowed to implement a decision on a fitness related purchase, we might never buy certain items at all.

Stop procrastinating: give yourself a time limit to make a final decision and then get on with your life. I say: you have 24 hours. Come back on here tomorrow night and tell me what you decided and then you are done with it. Move on.

Yes it is very different from P90X. One of the reasons I'm so happy with the program is because there is nothing like it on the market that I'm aware of. I like a variety of instructors and lifting styles and I'm a true vidiot so I own a lot of workouts;). I've never worked my body this way and I suspect many women have not.
Do not let the shorter workouts fool you! If you are lifting to your full potential, these workouts kick butt in a very short time.
I'm on week 5 and have had doms the entire 4 weeks. Not OMG, I can't move doms, but I feel like I've worked my muscles.
This is a lower body intense program. My glutes feel tighter:)

Here is a review that explains the concept of this type of training.

Shana,

I wanted to post another comment about MRT training. I thought it made some excellent points.

"While other forms of resistance training programs are designed with endurance, hypertrophy, or strength as the desired goal, an MRT program is designed with the primary goal of increasing one's metabolism. Of course that doesn't mean someone following an MRT program won't experience improvements in endurance, hypertrophy, or strength, it just means that metabolism increase is the #1 priority. Similarly, someone following a bodybuilding program would be placing hypertrophy as the #1 priority above either strength, endurance,or metabolic increases, although the latter three may be secondary benefits.

Alwyn Cosgrove says that MRT workouts should be designed to burn calories, maintain/promote muscle mass, and elevate metabolism. Generally speaking, that's going to mean resistance workouts (to maintain/promote muscle) utilizing large muscle groups (to burn the greatest number of calories) performed at a high intensity (to elevate the metabolism for hours after the workout is over, also known as the "afterburn" effect).

There doesn't seem to be a lot of clinical data on this type of training, but based on the experiences reported by numerous trainers, people following this type of program can expect fairly rapid fat loss in addition to some increases in strength and mass."
