Why am I having headaches!

Hey everyone! Hope ya'll are having a good morning! (or lunch! hehe:D) Just have a quick question...why is it for the past week, I've been waking up with headaches? I just don't get it:(

To be honest, my whole life I've had headaches, sometimes mild, sometimes severe. I went to the docs, and I got and MRI, they said there was nothing...

Anyone else having headaches a lot like me??:(

I've had the same problem. Sometimes heat will cause it, . . and sometimes I'll get migrains so bad I have to be in a dark room with no sound or light. I'm starting to wonder if mine are hormonal?

I've always had issues with headaches too, Alana. And they usually start in the wee hours of the morning and feel worse when I lay down (which sucks when I want to go back to sleep). I've tried alot of things for them over the years (ibuprofen, tylenol, tylenol w/ benadryl, tylenol sinus headache, ) i"ve even had 2 different perscription meds. I've tried the neti-pot for sinuses. Nothing really has been the answer.

I suspect they are sinus headaches because of the worsening pain when I lay down. Other than that, I have no idea either. As hard as it is to make myself go work out, working out/cardio usually does help ease it up a little. Other than that, I'm at a loss...

hey jainie and boingo! thanks for the response;). I tend to have worse/longer headaches in the summer (due to the heat I suspect too!)

And I also use (don't want to but I can't stand the pain sometimes!) IBprofen. I'm not sure if mine are sinus headaches cause mostly the pain is in the TOP of my head, boy and does it THROB like no other somedays!:(

I think I'm just doomed to live with them, maybe they'll lessen as I mature!;):p:D

Hey Alana!
I've had the same problem! They are at the top and front of my head and they are the worst! I went to the doctor and she gave me a migrane medicine and I had an allergic reaction! My throat started closing up! haha I was like ok I'd rather have this headache....

I'm thinking it is probably hormonal...orrrrr my jaw. Have you had your wisdom teeth pulled? Because I have noticed I started getting these headaches a few months after my wisdom teeth came out and I'm wondering if my jaw is out of wack now.

Hey Shannon! yes I have had my wisdom teeth pulled, but about 6 years ago and these headaches I've had since before I I got my wisdoms removed.

Has your doc prescribed anything else for the headaches or are you just "sucking them up" as I am?:p;):D

Hi Alana - I used to have many more headaches before I started seeing my current chiropractor and began getting regular, monthly adjustments.

Hmm..that's interesting! so does he do exactly to help aleviate the headaches? I never thought of that, is it expensive?

Mine were definitely hormonal. When I was pregnant, they were terrible and every single period I get them badly. Have you noticed a pattern or trend?

Also, if you have sinus problems, neti pots REALLY help with headaches!!

I hope you find the reason and feel better soon!

Hmm..that's interesting! so does he do exactly to help aleviate the headaches? I never thought of that, is it expensive?

He regularly adjusts my neck, shoulders, back, hips. Sometimes he also does my knees, toes and fingers. Initially, I started seeing him for chronic lower back pain. The fact that the adjustments also helped my headaches was a bonus. In the beginning, I went for adjustments 2-3 times per week for the first 4-6 weeks, then tapered off to just once a month.

As for expense, it's covered under my insurance. I don't know what the cost would be...my guess is not cheap. :(

Well I don't really see a pattern, I mean they're there about 3-4 times a week, yes they do hurt more when aunt flo's in town.

But I just seem to get them no matter what, tolerable or not. I'll check with my DOC and see what she says about the chiropractic part of it.

She'll probably just give me drugs, which isn't what I want, but we'll see what she says...;)

It could be so many things causing it. Some things that come to mind:
-chocolate and cheeses (anything fermented) can trigger headaches
-MSG in foods (it's not only in chinese foods, most prepackeged foods contain MSG under different names, like natural flavor, artificial flavors, spices..) if you eat any packaged foods you should google MSG and you will find extended list of names for MSG
-hormonal
-neck and spine tightness. I get a good relief from massaging trigger points that can cause headaches. I love "Triger Point Therapy" book, chiropractic adjustments can also be helpful
- it could be a food allergy

I hope you find a solution.

If you're waking up in the morning with them, they could either be from sinuses, or from the way you are sleeping. Getting a pillow that has a neck roll might help.

And I agree about seeing a chiropractor.

sounds like migraines. i have them. when i took imitrix it did the same thing to me, shannon. but, i am on maxalt now, and most of them time it works. but, there are times when even the maxalt doesn't work. they are very bad. dark room, no sound. don't know why i get them. started in 2002, might be hormones, i guess. i'm 54, so i guess i'm menopausal, although i had a hysterectomy 30 yrs ago. they did leave my ovaries, but i don't think they have worked for a long time. anyway, not that you asked for all that information. :)

Ya know, now that I think of it, when I stay with taking a multivitamin everyday, I tend to have them WAY less often...

maybe it is a vitamin/mineral difficiency. which I don't understand...well, maybe. I eat pretty darn clean, I occasionally indulge in a sweet treat, that should do it.

And, as we speak I havn't taking my multivitamin in weeks. I think I'll start taking them again and see if my headaches are reduced! Thank you magda...ya got me thinkin'!:D;)

I've struggled with headaches all of my life. I have had a headache pretty much every day for 6 months. I finally got referred to a neurologist that is a headache specialist and we began untangling the threads that are leading to my headaches.

When I had major abdominal surgery last December I had a reaction to the narcotics and they eventually had to manage the pain the best they could with ibuprofen. Let me tell you when you have 9 incisions in your abdomen ibuprofen does nothing!! Anyway, every time I tried to stop the ibuprofen I got a rebound headache. So with a course of steroids I got off the ibuprofen.

I started getting weekly massages and the headaches were better for a couple of days after the massage.

I also have major allergies and asthma so we tweaked my allergy meds and the headache abated another notch.

Then paydirt!!! I was at my new gastroenterologist PA talking about my residual chronic nausea and she suspected I had GERD (very common in asthmatics). Within a couple of days of starting Prilosec my headaches got so much better. Also a really weird constellation of symptoms abated (earache I had for 3 years, started sleeping better, hoarse voice cleared up). Last week I only had a bad headache once and a mild headache 2 days. What an unbelievable relief.

Also I am a notoriously poor sleeper and may visit a sleep doctor again.

I guess my point here is that sometimes headaches can have a myriad of causes and be cumulative from a variety of causes. If you could find a headache specialist within your healthcare plan it could lead to massive relief.

Good luck,

Shayne

This may seem like a silly/obvious question, but are you drinking enough water? Dehydration is a VERY common cause of headaches as is low blood sugar. It may not the problem, but I figured I mention it just in case.
