Which workout did you not like at first, but now do and why?

I've read a couple of times recently where people bought a Cathe workout and didn't use it or even sold it, but then tried again much later and ended up liking or loving it! What made the difference?

For me it is Low Max. I never liked it when it came out because I couldn't keep my heart rate up and I felt like she took too much time breaking the step routines down. A few months ago, someone (I think Fiddlefit) posted about holding an 8-pound medicine ball during the blasts to increase the intensity. It had been probably a year since I had done it, so I tried it. Intensity problem solved! It still doesn't make my top 10 or 20 list, but at least I can now do it a few times a year and get a good workout.

What's your story?

I hate to admit it, but I hated IMAX2 when I viewed it at first. I thought it looked like it had way too much high impact for me. I kept the dvd because I absolutely loved Cardio & Weights. After trying IMAX2 a few times, it has actually become one of my favorites as well. I can't believe I almost returned that dvd!!

For me it was High Step Training. I hated all the leg presses. I just picked it up recently after about 1 year and now I love it!!

For me, it was LIC. I bought it at the same time as I bought Drill Max, and I think that I loved Drill Max so much that LIC paled in comparison. I only did LIC once, then let it sit for a long while. When I finally got it out again, I feel in love with it!

I didn't like Imax2 when I first got it. Sold it. Decided to try it again after I starting using workouts with more impact (Tony Horton's Plyo X seemed to make it doable)and gave myself permission to modify workouts (and decided to 'sing over' the Piña colada song when they say 'pina' instead of 'piña').

I didn't like Kick Max at first. I wanted to like it because of Cathe's improved form, the music (though not loud enough) and the cute outfit Cathe is wearing (! yes, some of the things that make a workout appealing--or not--to me are quite superficial!), but I found the first section too pivoty and short, the second section too cheerleader-jumpy high impact...and didn't even try the last section before selling it.

Then, when I was hungering for some new kickbox workouts, and had managed to enjoy Tracey Staehle's first effort, and Amy Bento's KB workout, by modifying a lot for space and to make some moves in Amy's more kickboxy, I decided that if I could modify their's and like them, why not give Cathe another chance? And I found I really like it without the pivots, and taking some of the super-high-impact bouncy stuff to a rebounder.

I didn't like Step Blast at first. I really can't remember why now. I don't have any problems with choreography, and I have most all of Cathe's workouts, so it's not like anything was too unfamiliar. Maybe too many mambos and cha cha's?? I like it now.

I still can't warm up to Low Max and I probably never will, but I'm keeping it because...ya never know! However, I felt the same way as Kathryn did about Kick Max. I hated it initally and put it away for a year. Now, I've been putting it to good use. I do the first section when I want a light cardio day. The drills I do on a HIIT day, I pause the DVD player in between drills to allow my heart rate to lower. The leg conditioning drills are fab when I want a short leg workout, and for when I want to brush up on my kickboxing form. Using it as three separate workouts has made it a very versatile DVD! It's great! :)

Muscle Max
I didn't think it was very useful for me. It wasn't designed for endurance yet there weren't enough reps for me to build..which was what I was looking to do.
I went back to it long time later and found it to be one of my faves!
Now that I consider myself near advanced, I have tweaked it to suit my needs. I do heavier weights (for building) and then I do each group TWICE (like doing chest twice, then moving on and doing back twice), sometimes I even change the exercises on the second round a bit to mix it up. Now that i have done all the videos I don't follow then exactly like I did in the begining.. I use them to do my counting for me lol, and also to keep me steady on the exercises I do.
And honestly, the ab routine on that is pretty good! It's hard, but not crazy like the 20 min ones and it does good obliques(sp?)too :)

IMAX3 all the way. Got it in...what?..'05... Tried it as is and hated it, too much impact, too many turns. I did the 'combos only' premix tons of times then this spring I decided to try some of the blasts again. I always step on an 8" board and found that if I brought it down to 6" for the first and seventh blasts I was fine. I LOVE THIS WORKOUT!!! It's quick and dirty, gets the job done and lets me get on to other things. I always feel completely endorphinized after IMAX3!

Take Care

Humm, May be I do need to dust off the Imax 3 and Kick Max and try them again. After hearing this, I think I sheltered them little too long.:-( :-(

Boot Camp. At first, I didn't like the length of cardios being just one minute and the frenzied pace of lifting weights. And those terminators. Also, a boot camp style workout has never really been that appealing to me. But persistence paid off. The one-minute cardio bursts helped push me to a higher fitness level and the core work helped get my abs in the best of shape. So of course, now it's one of my favorites. Maybe I'll feel the same way about Drill Max. I haven't tried it yet. Got it when I was still pregnant so I wanted to wait, and now that I'm nearing my pre-preggo fitness level, I'm thinking of giving it a try as it just might speed things up a bit. But athletic style drills don't appeal to me either...so I've got a mental block to overcome just like I did with Boot Camp. But hey, that's part of the challenge and what keeps fitness interesting.

It took me 4 months after purchasing S&H to do it and now I love it!

Motivation is what gets you started. Habit is what keeps you going.

Definetely Slow and Heavy. When I first got it I found it to be so boring I wanted to poke my eyes out. I did it for a week and then didn't pick it back up again for months.

Even the second time I tried it I didn't like it--still soooooo boring and I never had DOMS. But the third time I really figured out how to focus on the body part, really listened to what Cathe was saying, went as heavy as I could and now find it to be the most effective rotation I have (mind you, I don't have Gym Styles yet--that's next!!)

I have gained so much definition, lost inches and am stronger than ever.

Believe it or not, KPC! I get kinda antsy and bored with it for some reason. Maybe because when I got it I did it all the time or something, so I just get bored with kickboxing workouts I guess. I actually liked Kickmax more, but cannot do the high impact moves now.

And I hate High Step Challenge, or rather did hate it. I pulled it out awhile back right before my surgery and surprised myself! It was actually sort of different and fun.:7

I've never gotten into KPC either! I find it boring as heck--I did it a lot when I first got it too and now I dread it. I'm lucky if I can force myself to do it once a month. I've never been into kickboxing anyway though. I don't dread KPC because it's bad, I just dread it because I dread any kickboxing workout! :) I'm a stepper all the way...

Cardio Fusion (although it was a freebie w/ the last preorder). Hardly ever do it, but I'm finding that it's growing on me now - maybe I'm in better shape.

Also wasn't wild about Drill Max (got LIC at the same time and LOVED it). Drill Max is growing on me too. Gotta love those firewalkers!
