Which STS series should I start with?

Oh wow! May I ask a few questions first...
1). Are you new to Cathe and do you have a subscription to On-Demand? Or will you be purchasing the workouts as downloads/dvds? (Wondering if cost is going to be a factor).
2). What kind of weight training have you been doing this past year or so? (Meaning are you an experienced lifter or fairly new to weight-training?)
3). What are your weight-training goals for the next 3-6 months? What do you want to achieve or accomplish in the next year in terms of fitness?

This background info may be helpful.

Yes, thank you so much for responding, and these questions! I have been using Cathe for years, and I use her DVD's. I have been contemplating doing the On-Demand, but I am so used to using the DVD's that I thought I would purchase my next series that way.
In the past year, I have been weight training with mainly Cathe- Slow & Heavy, and Gym Style, and Strong and Sweaty, and a bit of X-Train- woven in.
My weight training goals are to increase strength, and build a more defined body/muscle mass.
I have noticed a change in my body by being consistent with the Slow & Heavy and Gym Style, and I use a few leg workouts that I did not mention above- Butts & Gutts, legs from Kick Punch and Crunch and the leg premix on STS Total body that I do a few rounds of. I love them all!
Thank you for your help and advice! Linda

I find STS more challenging than STS 2.0. I do both, love both, but when I want to up my game do to speak, I reach for the original. And I do 1RM tests first. This summer, my fitness dipped a bit, and I’m doing STS now. That’s my experience.

Thank you for your response! I want it to be challenging and take me to the next level. Appreciate it!

Okay, so you are an experienced Cathe lifter! I mostly do Cathe strength workouts too. I get the most noticeable gains when I follow a structured rotation for 3- 6 months. If you think you can manage the discipline of a structured, linear & progressive plan - I'd suggest the original STS also. Taking the time to complete the majority of the 1RM will give you better results. You can take a few weeks doing your regular workouts by taking a set of the classic moves/exercises and focusing on the weight that you can lift with good form for 10 reps and then plugging that into the Workout Manager to get your starting weights for Meso 1. Use the Workout Manager to record your results after every workout, & it will then populate the suggested weights to use in Meso 2& 3.

The 1RM can also be done as part of your workout, or separate from your workout. Most people will find they can actually lift heavier than they had been lifting if they take the time to do their 1RM & therefore have better results.

You will learn a lot about Meso Cycles and advanced lifting techniques too. This will help in the selection of your weights in Cathe's other workouts.

I actually enjoy STS2 more, but it isn't as structured as the original and is mostly hypertrophy focused. But I personally found I get better results from an undulating approach rather than a linear as in original STS. But I would not have discovered that if I had not kept detailed notes while completing the original linear STS, then Xtrain's 12-week undulating rotation, then experimented with the original STS with an undulating rotation. Everyone is different and what is best for one person may not be the best for another. So I suggest you keep detailed notes of the weights & reps/sets you are using throughout every workout, how you are feeling, energy levels, note aesthetic changes if that's important to you, etc.

Following these structured programs is an education - there's lots to learn & discover about one's self. Additionally there's a great sense of accomplishment in following a lengthy structured program. Have fun whicheve way you choose to go!

Thank you so much for your detailed response! I have not done the 1RM and am interested in learning about that. I know I would learn a lot with both, but I think I may be leaning more toward starting with the original STS, and going from there. Thank you for the tip on the Workout Manager as well! So appreciate this information! Have a great evening!
