I would like to downsize some but i need my truck. I hate cars.

I bought a Honda Pilot this past summer and love it love it love it! I too wanted to buy American, but I could not find anything I liked or compared. My husband at one time worked for Ford Motor and we usually always buy a Ford, but I really like my Pilot. Honda does have auto plants in the US; but of course it's foreign owned.

From what I understand, these days it's difficult to call a car full on American or Japanese or German because of parts being made here, then shipped there, then put into a frame that was assembled elsewhere. That sort of thing. I could be wrong.

I love my Subaru Forester. May be smaller than what you are looking for but it's sporty, roomy and reliable. Great in snow too.

I drive a Chrysler Town & Country. I want to down-size and I am looking at the Honda CR-V. The Pilot is a little too big for me. I wouldn't be down-sizing with the Pilot.

Jen,

Does the Honda Pilot have good gas mileage? I have the Toyota Landcruiser but I want to downsize and I heard good things about the Honda Pilot. What do you like about the Pilot?

Thanks,
Debbie

I second the Subaru Forester! I love my XT! They might be smaller, but you can pack alot into them. And they drive like a dream.

I drove a CR-V for six years and it's a great vehicle, excellent on gas mileage. My miles are mostly highway, but I was averaging about 25 mpg, which is great for a mini-SUV.

I know this might be an unpopular opinion, but with today's gas prices, I can't imagine seriously considering a full-size SUV unless one doesn't do much driving. I have always bought Hondas, but the CR-V model hasn't changed much since my '99 and I was just tired of it. The Accord was okay, but I ended up going with a Volkswagen Passat sedan, and I am soooo thrilled with it. The gas mileage is awesome and it's a roomy and nice ride. We spend a lot of time in the car so I was concerned with everyone being comfortable.

Good luck with whatever you choose!

I have a Honda CRV..no complaints here..though my next car will probably be a hybrid. I get 16 mpg city, 21 hwy right now.

For American, take a look at Saturn...their V-6 uses a Honda engine, so it has Honda reliability but it's also an American company. Their SUVs are a bit more expensive than the CR-V..but the price is the price @ Saturn so you don't have to haggle.

Are you looking for small or large? I have a Chevy Trail Blazer XLT. It has the extra seat in it so it seats 7 instead of 5. I love it. Lots of cargo room even if you have the 3rd row seats up. It drives like a car, not all bumpy like a truck.

My DD has a Chevy Equinox (seats 5). They are about the size of what used to be the S10 blazers. She just loves it too.

I have had a Toyota Rav4 for about 6 years. It is a mini SUV and even with 4 wheel drive it gets about 28 mpg. I absolutely love it...:)...Carole

Oh i like the trail blazer, but it sucks way too much gas.
I like the cargo of my sport trac. I have put a washer and dryer in that thing.I am leaning toward the honda pilot, but i have to drive them. I had an escape when they were fixing my truck and junk, bad ride. Rode like a little economy car.I need to test drive.
I like a ride of a lincolin and fuel of honda.
Who knows i may end up with another sport trac.
Thanks guys,
Anne

Hi!
I think I get between 16 to 20 miles per gallon.
My pilot can seat 8 people which comes in handy. I have 4 kids and can carpool friends etc. And when my parents come to visit, my whole family plus them can fit. Also the back seats can go down for more cargo room. I have more room for storage, like groceries and Costco than I did with my old windstar! And mine has a sunroof which I totally love!
Hope this helps
Jen

Depending on how much time you have to test drive, you might considering renting one for a weekend. I had a friend who would rent different vehicles just so he could drive it in his normal situations and check out the gas mileage so he knew which one he wanted to buy.
