I'm looking into buying a heart rate monitor, and I'd like to get suggestions from anyone! :) I think the Polar F11 looks awesome!!!...but the price is a bit higher than I am really wanting to spend...if anyone is selling theirs!!! (hint hint)

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

Kelly-
You really can't go wrong with Polar, as its such a well-known brand. My sense is that although the chest bands wear out, the watches keep going forever. Maybe you could purchase the watch on E-bay or something, then buy a new chest band? Just a thought.

Editing to say that the most basic models do a fine job, and they are usually a lot less expensive. As a matter of fact my DH bought me a complicated one and I found it hard to use. I actually prefer the ones that JUST read your heart rate. So, if you're willing to forego (in my opinion, annoying) bells and whistles, I really think the best ones are the simple models, which are pretty reasonably priced.

I got the Polar F6 just before Christmas, and it it great, easy to use and it does everything ( more really) that I wanted.. the F11 was too complicated for me and had more than I wanted, for a lot more money too.

I have the F4 which I think is the same as F6 only a little more petite sized for my small wrist and I like it just fine. It gives you heart rate during the workout and calories burned during the workout displayed while you exercise. Then at the end you can do a "summary" which displays the total calories burned, average HR, maximum heart rate, and time spent in your training zone. The F4 and 6 are the cheapest that give you calories burned.

I love my F4. I, too, had a more complicated one and wound up taking it back and getting the F4. Can't remember what model it was but it was a Polar. I couldn't figure out how to use it!

Kelly,
I received the F11 as a Christmas present. While it is a bit complicated at first, I quickly got used to it.

The feature(s) I like best with the F11 is that it tells me not only how many calories I burned, but how much of those calories were "fat" calories. If you have any specific questions, please let me know.

On another note, I had the A5 Polar monitor and it lasted about 5 years. The F11 will most likely last as long, if not longer, so spend a few more $$$ and get one with great features. Oh, I also forgot, you can upload the info on your computer.

This week (from Sun to Sat), I burned over 3684 calories!

I got a Polar S120 for Christmas. It doesn't do a whole lot but it does what I want it to do. You should take Sarah's advice and check out the website she mentioned. I've ordered a couple of things from them and they have the lowest prices I've seen. No shipping, no tax and the items arrived in just a couple of days after placing my order.

Yes, I did check out that GREAT site Sarah mentioned (thanks Sarah!). I think I MAY (not positive) go with the Timex 5C361 from walmart for $48, since I have the gift card and it's cheaper than that site's price of $54.99. I don't think I really need all the bells and whistles...plus with the money I save...perhaps I'll buy a new DVD :) (hey, I'll rationalize any way I have to *hehe*) Oh, and amazon.com has a better description of the monitor at http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/t...2/104-1274063-5907138?v=glance&s=hpc&n=507846
