Which Cathe workout for newbie?

Hi, I am new to Cathe and pretty new to working out. I can't seem to stick to routine. I get all gung ho and start working out and than 2 weeks later, I stop and have a hard time getting back on. I really want to make a committment to fitness and get healthy.
I am a compulsive buyer and have tons of VHS/DVD workouts :7
I have most of all of Cathe DVDs and would like to ask which one you recommend for someone new to start out with? Should I do the CTX series and do a rotation of that? Should I just concentrate on like one whole body weight workout and than do separte cardio? What do you think would benefit me the most being new. I need to lose weight and get some muscles in me. I weight 148 lbs, small frame 5'2". I think I am an hourglass shape or pear. My metabolism is very mest up from previous years with an ED. That is not an issue anymore but my health has sufferred from this...I want to go forward now and I sure do want to get healthy and strong.
I appreciate any help anyone can give me. This is my first time posting here.
Thanks :)

Hey Becka, I would reccomend the CTX series. It is a rotation itself. I've heard people getting great results from it like losing weight from it, of course you have to have eat clean:) Try it for a month and see how it goes and if your getting results I would continue for a few weeks and see how you do from there. Good luck:)

Hi Beca;

We share the same stats ht& wt.

I think the CTX series is a great one but I'd also recommend Cathe's older step tapes too like the Wedding Tape, Step Heat (my 1st Cathe workout) or Mega Step Blast.

Good luck and most of all try not to push yourself beyond what you can safely do... modify, modify & modify LOL :)

Have fun and welcome to the Cathe forums!

Hello Becka,
I agree with Shywolf about trying the older workouts - this is because her moves are more easily learned that way. I found when I got the CTX series that alot of the moves were used from previous workouts, so if you've never done them it could be daunting and get you frustrated. However; if you pick up choreography well, I would say to go ahead with CTX as a month-long rotation because it is so conveniently packaged as a ready to go rotation. You get a little bit of everything.
Just wanted to put in my two cents and welcome you to Cathe -it will be a life-changing experience!!

Keep us posted on your progress.

Thank you all so much for your advice. Have one more question, what do you think of the Pure Strength Series? Would that also be another one that would be good for me also?
Thanks :)

Hi Becka, the PS Series was one of my first DVD's. It's still my favorite. Will always be, I guess.:) Real easy to follow, great instruction and form pointers from Cathe. I'd recommend this to anyone. I know you're looking to lose some weight, and strength training coupled with cardio will definitely help. Muscle burns more fuel, so it pays to pack on some. I'm with everyone else who suggested that you try Cathe's older step tapes as the choreography is easier to follow. I started with the Cardio Hits DVD. At the time I thought the choreography was tricky -- until I tried her newer workouts!:) If you are looking for her newer workouts with easier choregraphy, try IMAX 1 and/or IMAX 2/Cardio & Weights. Lots of jumps and hops, but you can always modify and do low-impact moves. Hope this helps.

Hi everyone :)
I did 10-10-10 today and really like it. I did have to modify alot...lol. Love the music and the step work. I know it will take me awhile to get the steps down. I wore my heartrate monitor and it kept beeping because my heartrate was to high. Should I have slow down to bring my heartrate down or kept on going if I felt okay? I did slow down some when I was getting winded. Does it matter which workouts to do in a certain order? I remember reading somewhere that I shouldn't do leaner legs & something else right next to each other but I can't remember what the other workout was...:-(
I will do a search and see if I can find it.
thanks for help everyone.
hugs~

I think it's Leaner Legs and Power Circuit that you need to separate by at least a day because of the leg work in Power Circuit. Other than that I don't think the order matters. I would caution you to be careful with the impact if you plan on doing CTX for longer than a week. It's kind of high so I would recommend deviating from the standard one-a-day rotation and perhaps do the CTX upper body split the day after Leaner legs then take your rest day. This will give you more recovery time from the impact work.

My HRM pretty much always told me I was working too hard, even when I felt like a million bucks. I think with target heart rates, it's geared to the "average" person but obviously not everyone is average. I say go with how you feel first but perhaps keep your awareness of it higher than normal when first doing a new workout.
