Where does it stop?

You know, when I was a size 12, sometimes a size 10, I would have loved to be a size 10 all the time. Moved down to that size 10, sometimes an 8, and would have loved to be size 8 all the time. Lo and behold, there I was, a size 8, sometimes even a 6. Then it was 6 all the way, sometimes a 4. That's where I am now. And yes, you guessed it. I want that size 4 tag all the time. So what happens if I get there? Will I covet the size 2's? Where does this end?

Is anyone else in the same boat? Have you reached a size that you're happy with? What do you do if you go try on something that is supposed to be your size but it's too small? What if, God forbid, you have to go up a COUPLE of sizes in something? Do you pay attention to those tags, or just rack it up to the vagaries and whims of women's clothing manufacturers?

Can you tell I'm having a dandy evening?x(

Seems to me like sooner or later, if you keep going down in sizes,
you are going to melt away! ;)

I used to really worry about the size of my clothing after I first lost weight. Now I could care less. I literally can take anywhere from an 8 to a 12 or 14 amd as long as it looks good, it suits me fine, no matter what the size! None of it makes sense to me anymore with the way these manufacturer's size things. Although...catalog ordering is pretty much out for me these days.

I will tell ya this...I always wore the same size at my favorite store (12 or a medum). I lost some inches and went down one size (10 or a medium). Recently I went there and suddenly was wearing an 8 or a small. I finally realized that I think they HAD to have changed their sizing b/c I am six feet tall and pretty medium built (I don't consider myslef "thin")..that ain't no small! ;)

I know exactly how you feel Shelley! I do the same thing! Always have!!! x( I must admit wearing the smaller sizes makes me feel wonderful even if a size larger fits me the exact same way! My brain feeds on those dang #s or letters (2,4,6 or S, M, L)!!! I am, however, smart enough to know that my body is only capable of being so small while still remaining healthy, therefore, even though I may WISH to be the next size down no matter how small I am...the realistic part of my brain recognizes when this is merely a pipe dream! :p

Awwww, Shelley! http://www.smileys.ws/smls/action/00000032.gif We are women, we are never satisfied with anything, don't worry! It is a neverending vicious cycle.

On a serious note, I am really sorry you aren't feeling spectacular. I think that you are such a wonderful person! You are always there when I need to talk to you, you are fun, beautiful, honest, sincere, loyal; you are a wonderful person. You are the heart of this forum!

Shelley, don't even go there! I just saw amazing pics of you (and of course the rest of the gang). You look fabulous. You just said it yourself. You are having a bad day. I can't say I blame you for being P.O.'ed but good grief! At least you look fabulous all the while!

Besides, we all know better than that. It's just a freakin'number.

I used to be more obsessed with it than I am now. Clothing sizes are all over the place these days, I can wear anywhere from a 6 to a 12, that's crazy! I do have days where I still obsess, but then I pull out the pictures of me wearing a size 20 and look at how much healthier and fit I am. That usually helps the mood pass. BTW, I've seen your pics and you look great, don't beat yourself up so much!

Before I got pregnant I had something in a size 3 and I ran up to a size 9! I considered myself a size 7 pretty much but I ran the gammit!

I recently became a size 6 and now I won't even look at an 8. The problem is not all 6's fit me. I think I really am a size 8 but a few items I have are 6's. I don't think I will ever be happy with my size. I think because it is hard for me to maintain a 6. I hear ya though does it ever stop! I don't think so. But you know we all look great and of course are all drop dead gorgouse.

Before I got prego I was a five in juniors. You think that I can get my fatass in 11's now? Barely. I wear 8 women's now. But hey, we have had kids and we are gorgeous, curvy, voluptious women!!!

I did care about sizes before I saw a riport on the NBC. Clothes companies put smaller size on their clothes because they know you will be happy and will buy their brand in the future.
It was very disappointing. Those women who tried on the clothes /without knowing the trick/ were very happy and they actually thought they lost some weight.
Now I know the size doesn't matter and I try to look for the clothes that fit.

I recently had to buy new jeans (old ones ripped in the inner thigh, but that's another pet peeve) and went through something similar. This drives me nuts! I *think* I'm a size 6, but I have two pairs of size 8 pants--one pair is way too big and the other is tight. I have two pairs of size 6 pants--one pair fits and the other I am swimming in. When I go to buy clothes online like at Lands End, their measurement chart says I'm a size 10, but their clothes in that size are always too big on me (yes, I've double and triple-checked my measurements). Oh, and I mostly have size 4 skirts, except that some of them are huge. I wear a size 6 top, except when I wear an 8 or 4. !! Have I mentioned this drives me nuts? x(

I wear a size 8 and have a few 6's that fit. I also have a few pieces of 10's that fit. So, as long as I fit into what is in my closet and I don't have to buy a new wardrobe, I'm happy. Of course, I don't want to go up in sizes and have to buy new clothes but neither do I want to go down to 6's or 4's and have to buy new clothes either. I just want to fit into what I have.

Two and a half years ago when I lost over 30 pounds and went from a 14 to sometimes a 16 down to an 8, I had to give away my entire wardrobe, as you can imagine. I didn't have one stitch of clothing that fit. It was very expensive to buy a new wardrobe both of dress and casual clothing. I definitely don't want to go through that again!

oh i just give up with sizes i am not wondering how the heck i am going to get rid of this back fat that seems to want to stick around. and hangs out of whatever jeans i wear LOL. i am jealous size 4 :p. i would get upset if i had to go up to a COUPLE sizes suddenly but one size i wouldn't fret. we are women we have hormones are bodies change constantly. we have to deal with so much its no wonder our bodies go through so much as well.

don't fret you are awesome, beautiful, strong, and you will get through this too

Shelly, this is a very good topic b/c I think as women..some can be content when they reach their goals...while others keep striving to improve.
I started gaining when soon after I met DH and I started to creep up to a size 11,(i think) Thats when I said...o.k..no double digits...not yet anyway;) That was the breaking point where I knew I had to start eating right and exercising again. And like you, I went from a 11 to a 9 to a 7 then a 5.That was pretty much where I stopped but thought..how great would it be to buy 3's? My goal weight was 125 lbs, got there, then I wanted 123 lbs.
I also said to myself, then when I get there, what next? Then what goal?
Right now I am wearing(ah...let me look..oops tore the tag off) I think they are a 5.And they are comfortable. But they were starting to get tight.
I think right now, I would be happy fitting into my jeans comfortably without any love handles hanging out.
When I try on clothes that the tags are bigger then what I would normally wear, I know that they are a small make and I won't even bother b/c God forbid (like you said) I can't have those hanging in my closet.
Like I said, good point and I think your going to get alot of responses to this one.Us women...we are perfect and still trying to improve!
Lori:)

BTW, I think you look great!

There was a time when I was wearing 10's, then I went to 8's and stayed there seemed like forever. Then went to 6's and now I wear mostly 4's and sometimes 2's. Just depends. All my jeans are really different sizes, but if you measured them (waist, hip and rise), they are all just about the same. So really sizes shouldn't matter to much, it is just what you see in the mirror, and if you look good, be happy with that!

I totally understand where you are coming from Shelley! I'd love to tell you, oh, it's only a number, it's not even accurate, manufacturers do "vanity" sizing etc but the bottom line is, we do use those as an indicator. Depending on the manufacturer I can wear a 2, 4 or six and have them all look good. Guess which one makes me happiest to wear!
My lame advice would be to just keep on doing what you are doing. If you are working out regularly and eating a generally healthy diet, you're doing ok!
