When the yoga sticky mat is not so sticky anymore...

how do you clean it? and how often?

I used to clean my sticky mat with 1/3 cup of rubbing alcohol, 1/3 cup white vinegar and 1/3 cup of water in a spray bottle. A couple of days ago I only used water and antibacterial soap (because I didn't have alcohol and vinegar around). I was wondering how all of you clean your sticky mats and how often.

Ha! I've been waiting for this question- I got my sticky mat 2 years ago and it came with a tag about how to clean it. I kept the tag in my coffee table drawer...

it says "we recommend you wash your mat by hand in cool water with a mild detergent. please do not twist.
roll your mat in a thick towel to squeeze out the excess water. Please note that your mat will not dry if you skip this step!
hand your mat to air dry
over time and with proper care, your mat will increase in softness and stickiness"

hope that helps! I've used oxiclean mixed with dish soap in the bathtub to clean my mats.

RE: When the yoga sticky mat is not so sticky anymore.....

Thanks for sharing. Yes I roll my mat between two big towels after cleaning it. The solution with water, vinegar and alcohol I got it from a yoga magazine years ago and it works great (a little bit stinky at the beginning but it goes away the same day). I was just wondering how everybody else does with cleaning the mat because sometimes vinegar and alcohol are not easy to have around.
