When Steps Go Bad...

No, not the next episode of Jenny Jones...

I bought my Original Health Club Step 11 years ago and the grid is no longer smooth. In fact, it is kind of lumpy and grooved where my feet always land. I don't really want to fork out the $$$ for a new one, but figure I might haffta. Any thoughts?
 
hi jilly...just being silly...how many times do you think you stepped on your poor ol' step...1,000,000+....it served you well!!!;-)
 
I heard of people peeling up the old surface and re-glueing it to the step. You could try it.

I also know there are sites that just sell the top portion without the risers in case the regluing doesn't work.

Maybe someone else can pipe in and help with the procedure for re-glueing or with the web site.

I am so anxious to get the cool new black and gray step that I'd say buy a new one! But there is a reason that I haven't broken down and gotten one myself. They are expensive :(. But it is certainaly on my wishlist. I would buy the topper if you can. That surface is so wonderful when it's brand new. Christmas is very close, ya know :) I'm assuming that the old risers will be just as stable with the new topper as with the old.

The steps at my club are starting to do that. I say keep using it! I think it has a lot more life left in it.
 
Personally I think that you are lucky it lasted that long. I worked out for years with a homemade one my DH made for me. It worked fine except for the height adjustment part. My first step company one lasted 2 and a half years before it started bubbling up. I bought a new one at a store here, got it home and the rubber grid was already loose, I took it back and they were really nice at Acadamy sports to take them out of the boxes so I could look at them. I bought one. It was about six months before it started bubbling up. I really like these steps though. The size, and they have a little bit of give. I have duct tape around mine right now , as I have tried super glue and a glue gun. Mine is starting to split between the lines on the grid. Maybe I am just to hard on it?? You can buy just a top at at least one web site. I think it is fitnesswholesale.com. The shipping is what gets me. I wish I could figure out something to replace the grid on the one I own, as like I said, I think it is the best.

I received my step as a Christmas gift from my mom when I was 14 years old. That was 12 years ago. My step is still going strong. I do worry about the day when I will have to break down and buy a new one because the quality seems to be all over the place with some of the newer versions.

I would suggest going to a site/store with reviews available before purchasing one. It may save you the headache of having to return it or buy a new one.

This is something that I was thinking of doing myself but just haven't gotten around to it. I have the reebok step and it has been fine for me. I have been reading posts about the original club step that got me thinking that maybe I should get it.You can interchange the risers with the high step etc. But there is nothing wrong with my reebok step so I go back and forth.

Then I went to Fitness Warehouse online and found that they sell the top separately. So if your risers are OK why don't you just get the top! It is about $35 plus shipping. So depending on how much the shipping is this might work for you. I was thinking of this because I have the high step with 5 risers and I really wouldn't use the regular step with more than four because of my knees. Anyway Here is the link to the page

I sympathize with you. I just had to buy a new Reebok step because one of the risers broke and you just can't buy the risers by themselves.

I also have the club step and I seem to recall that you could by just the grid part to replace the worn out grid. I'll try to find out where I saw that info. I must be lucky because my club step is about 10 years old and has no bubbling yet.
 
Please do let us know where we can get just the grid! My grid is starting to peel off. Maybe there is a special glue that would re=attach it??!! Thanks! Debra:)
