what's your pillow??

Hi everyone, I keep waking up with a painful stiff neck, that usually goes away by the afternoon, but it's got to be my pillow. I've got a regular fiberfill one, so I tried one of those memory foam ones, but I didn't even use it because it felt so hard and weird-like. What kind of pillows do you guys use??

On the plus side, have nice doms in my biceps, forearms, and chest today! (Only on this site can you crow about doms!):)

I now have a pillow that I got from my chiropractor that is designed with a neck support and support on the sides for when one sleeps with head facing sideways, but I also use a neckroll type pillow that I got from HSN. Both work well for me.

I've also used buckwheat hull pillows, and when I travel, I always roll up a towel and put it in the pillowcase to make a neck roll. The neck support allows the neck muscles to relax more during the night, which goes a long way to helping prevent soreness.

As a quick fix, you could try rolling up a towel (a small bath towel or a hand towel) and putting it where your neck is. It sometimes takes a bit of tweaking to figure out the side and firmness of the roll that will work for you, but somewhere around the diameter of your clenched fist is a good place to start (so if you use a bath towel, roll it from the sides in, so it will be long and the ends will stick out of the pillowcase).

Thank you! I'll try the towel technique and google those neckroll pillows. The pain is starting to wake me up at night... need to try something!:)

I have a contoured memory foam pillow. It took me a week or so to get used to it, but now I can't sleep without it. I rarely wake up with a sore neck anymore. I've had it for a couple of years now.

I have cervical arthritis...deteriorating vertebrae in neck. I sleep on the memory foam contour pillow. My sister who deals with same (yay genetics) loves the buckwheat hull pillow. Both took getting used to as they are not "softies".

Is anyone else an old-fashioned down pillow person? I usually end up sleeping on my back with my down pillow setting on my stomach and nothing under my head. It feels really good on my back that way and doesn't seem to bother my neck.

I have a Mediflow water pillow. I didn't like it at first, but once I figured out the right amount water to use I quickly fell in love with it. It's incredible, but even 1/4 cup too much or too little water can make a huge difference in how the pillow feels. I bought this pillow because I have neck issues that required surgery.
